I'd prefer this over the Norton commander, interpol or it's other rotary engined models anyday. However the choice would be difficult if the suzuki re5 were involved
There's a story here! The Original had a shaft drive from a BMW R-27. As they neared production, talks broke down as to who would make the shaft drive and for how much. Hercules redesigned the bike into a chain drive. It's a completely different bike (and I would guess with a different history...) if the bike had been produced with shaft drive!
@@morini500dave Yes, the sound of a Norton rotary on full chat is simply awesome. It seems sort of obvious now that the rotary engine is a dead end, with its high fuel consumption, total loss lubrication and poor wear characteristics, but that's the benefit of hindsight. Back then it seemed an awesome concept. Seems it almost sunk the companies who dabbled with it.
@@jamesrindley6215 Don't know if I would agree with that (though you are right that it had some issues) considering how long Mazda used it and how much interest there was and still is for that style of engine.
@@Gonecheenin You're right there is still interest in the liquid piston rotary engine, it appears to be suited to military drones where power to weight ratio is everything. In such niche applications the emissions and short engine life can be accepted. Maybe it'll turn up in things like chainsaws too.
If done well, you get less vibration and a high rpm engine. The trade off is that they have low compression ratio, bad fuel efficiency, poor reliability and burns a 25-1 fuel/oil ratio.
Shit man kawasaki made one of the best bikes built 4 carbs so fast they outlawed them the Suzuki made the quadzilla which was fast but people was getting hurt on them kawasaki made some great dirt bikes the kx was awesome

@@canturgan : Yes, they were the only one who could run this engine efficiently, however only for some years also because of the high fuel consumption and the highly polluant exhaust. It has the same, if not even worse negative polluant rates as the two stroke engine, who is nowadays forbidden in the entire UE zone. The Wankel engine is definitively dead now. It only seemed to be a genius idea, but in reallity it was a sort of a miscarriage. It's also to say that Wankel was not an engineer but a designer.

Nice looking bike, but why would you mount the rotor lengthways and then presumably have some bevel gear to turn it around to a chain drive?

Norton took the design and doubled up on the combustion chambers(588)cc and turned them across the frame,which I think was a better configuration.
