I feel like Nexo Knights could've lasted longer if they'd pulled more directly from the King Arthur mythos, like this theme does from Journey to the West. It could've still had the techno influence, but even just calling the character and locations by recognizable names could've gotten more people into the theme. I mean, most kids, even if they've never read any King Arthur stories proper, know the gist, Knights of the Round Table Merlin, Camelot, Morgan, etc.

They’ve stated that all of their named unlicensed themes last only about 3 years on purpose. Ninjago was the big name that broke that trend because of the uproar after it was announced that the final battle was gonna be the end of the Ninjago theme, people were so mad that LEGO decided to make it permanent. I personally felt that was a bad idea, especially after the movie came out, but honestly the only bad season after the movie was season 11. That thing is a literal Garbage bin IMO. I went to my "local" Lego Store(an hour drive away) back in August, Saw Monkie Kid and went "Oh... Lego's doing Off Brand Dragon Ball?" and goodness gracious was that dumb and foolish of me. I know about Journey to The West, but instead my brain went "Mmmm yes, Dragon Ball" as opposed the thing that inspired it. Looking at it now I'm like "Oh this is all super unique and cool" and I realize that I am part of the problem. My whole shelf of Lego is just star wars(plus some city sets scattered around for fun, I love the space sets). I, as an adult fan of Lego, should try expanding my horizons about these non-licensed themes, add some variety to the shelves.

It's okay. We're so inundated by licenses, it's just come to be what's expected of Lego, like Funko Pops.

im in love with these sets. they remind me a lot of the exo force sets I had as a kid. and looking at the pricing for the UK market they all seem to be on the low side considering the price for the voltron set for the monkey king's mech its about 10 or so pounds cheaper than the voltron mech set. but either way great video. I had no idea these sets were coming since I haven't been looking at lego sets since the owerwatch sets came out including the wrecking ball and junk rat sets. I see I might be splurging out on some of these soon

Fantastic overview of the theme. Great job Nick! Definitely worth the wait. Your review made me appreciate this theme more than any other reviewer could have. You gushing over the Monkey Kid Mech has convinced me to buy it.
Side note: I like how you actually showed and filmed the sets in person instead of doing a boring bass Microsoft PowerPoint style “””video””” where you just show the promotional pictures of the sets taken by LEGO on screen and just talk over them. I appreciate the extra work and the many details you put into this video. Top notch stuff.

Probably love it for it's originality!" Glad you could get your thoughts out there!

So I took your advice and watched Overly Sarcastic's series on Journey to The West because you made it sound cool enough and I loved it, and now I've watched the two Monkie Kid episodes and I absolutely loved that too! The animation is amazing and I think I could apreciate the story and characters alot more because I I had learned so much of the original story.
So thank you very much for that. Im honestly more interested in just more of those episodes now rather than the actual lego sets. xD

  • @kaylemathewcomendador6964

The sets look beautiful done. And that animated show looks really nice too. Although I’m not completely sure how I’ll watch it.
It’s kinda a shame the prices can get really nuts and that their foreign releases look rather limited. Possibly in part due to them being aimed for a Chinese market, based on what you said in this video that is.
Excellently done video overall. You went through quite the details here.

Amazing review by a passionate fan! I just started watching Monkie Kid and think it's awesome! I also ended up buying a lot of sets during prime-day sale because they were 30-45% off! I agree and think this theme will last at least a little while longer as it's essentially Lego trying to get a foothold into the China market. So, I think they'll risk any losses a while longer for that potential customer base. Also, they put a lot of effort into making a really great animated show! This is the first video I've seen of yours (hidden side is also great and underrated, btw) and your king of the hill clip was perfect, lol! Keep up the great work!

This one is probably one of the best reviews of a complete wave of LEGO sets I’ve ever seen. I had zero interest in Monkie Kid when it was announced and this is the first video I’ve watched from beginning to end about it. You held my interest the entire time. Love your passion for detail and how you went and learned about journey to the west before this came out. Such an informative and entertaining review of these items. I appreciate LEGO trying new things and doing them well. Gives me hope for other things
