Kenya hopes to turn lamu port into Africa's hub

The port of Mombasa is not yet considered a major hub on the world map, because of its low capacities .The Lappset project was expected to change all that and make Kenya the gateway to Africa, with the government taking lessons from one of the world largest ports and the gateway to Europe- the port of Antwerp.

If I may ask why construct sgr from lamu to Mombasa instead of it to be constructed to garisa towards Ethiopia which is more easier then a nother extends to Nairobi serving the areas of North towards Nairobi and expand tourism in lamu than overloading that of Mombasa nairobi? Answer this

Lamu to Mombasa to allow easy access to Nairobi which is kenya's economic hub. Remember Ethiopia has access to ports that are Geographically better positioned compared to lamu, thus they may not need lamu port. therefore let lamu port serve kenya by connecting it to the economic hub and not to ''mashinani''
