  • We headed out from Drysdale Station heading towards Kalumburu and ultimately Honeymoon Bay. We had been warned the road was rough and heavily corrugated with many water crossings and floodways and it certainly lived up to expectations, especially between Kalumbaru and the Bay! We just took it easy as we wanted to arrive in one piece, and we all know that it's no picnic having to change a tyre on the side of a dirt road so slow and steady it was!
After a long day we arrived and checked in with Joy on reception then found a spot to set up with a view of the water. The next few days saw the boys doing some maintenance on the trucks and vans while the girls did a bit of cooking and jigsaw puzzles. We braved a very quick dip in the water with Chris on croc watch and Sheryl and Wayne had a fantastic day out on a fishing charter with Lancho. We met some of the regulars, Pam and Wolf, who winter there every year for the last 30 years and shared some great fire side stories with them. Drop in for a chat if you're up there!
After 5 days we started the trek back with a stop in Kalumburu, where Sheryl bought some traditional art and got hijacked paying $3.75 per litre for fuel. We were then pleasantly surprised that the grader had been through, and the road was so much smoother, it took us half the time on return-winning!
Overall, we had a great time at Honeymoon Bay, it's certainly a great place to relax and let the world roll on by- just remember to cover up at dusk as we all got attacked by sandflies!
Travel safe and we'll see you on the road!

Lovely Ep and spot and set ups guys, I had nearly 4 weeks at McGowans I towed up my 5m tinny and the fishing was great. I came over to HoneyMoon bay and met Wolf and his wife lovely people. I found the roads great compared to 36 years ago when I was there last.

Thanks Craig, you are absolutely bang on. The tinny makes a great addition to spots like these I only wish I had one, but it was a bucket list item to go up there. Thanks for your comment, cheers.
