Coach Ty, I really enjoy these "classes". You are my new favorite series to follow. Greetings from Mexico.
I'm a volleyball coach and player (33 years), that's why I'm so interested in your channel.

You should make a video about vertical jump myths. You have knowledge. Thanks :)

Thanks Coach for the contents. Would like to ask about the training methods in the weight training for vert jump.
For example in squat or hack squat:
some people said holding the position in the bottom(5 -6s) can helps us on bearing the weight before we jump up or
should we lift the weight up immediately in order to be explosiveness. thanks a lot.
Sorry for my poor expression, comment and loves from Hong Kong!

Hey coach, Sorry to bother you, I have two questions about block Jump in volleyball after seeing your old video about it: first, how deep should you squat when loading the jump? I've thought that maybe since a bit of torso flexion Is Indeed involved it would be impractical to go ass to grass and 90 degrees would be better; second, what about the starting position to block in volleyball? A lot of coaches tell you to stay low even before the jump so most of the time you already find yourself in kind of a quarter squat position: how do you mix this with the idea of loading quickly the jump? Thanks in advance

You should only ever go as low as your unique neuromuscular output allows for. This means NOT EVERYONE SHOULD GO SUPER LOW! I only used caps to outline a point that frustrates us as taught by many volleyball coaches. (really no fault of theirs, they're doing their best), but we know for a fact that not everyone should get super low. If you're more elastic, you need less time to store and release energy. Going lower places too much emphasis into the muscle tissue and removes jumping potential from an athlete like that. Starting in a squatted position is also detrimental. Every second we spend under any degree of tension is potential energy lost. I like to see an athlete with a soft knee that loads aggressively, while timing their block. This helps tap into the stretch shortening cycle more effectively! Great question!

@@jumpguyty Thanks for the in-depth answer! Do you think there's a way to find out my personal Ideal depth when loading the jump?

they will make a return this year, but I have been building our new home and PPA gym and in the meantime haven't had a location to film! I miss them though. Also, with less COVID restrictions, actual coaching (my real job) has taken back a lot of my time! Thanks for being a part of PPA!
