I recorded the whole show on cassette from the radio that day and played it over and over after Johnnie left. This man influenced my taste in music more than anyone else. I remember this day clearly, as a newley turned 17 year old I felt like I was losing a friend. Life would never be the same musically, he played more than chart music he played heavier stuff, he played southern rock and west coast music. I loved the pop the question quiz, his slots for Ones that got away and Walkers ones to watch. Great days.

His programme was perfect - he had a slow and reassuring presence and played great music.

I listened to this show and expected great things for him. Loved his show, the guy just didn't have any luck in the US, not through lack of talent that's for sure. Delighted when he finally managed to get back to blighty and re establish himself once again! He was on our local station for a while in the eighties (GWR!) couldn't believe it! I could have phoned him up but never did. Legend!

Wouldn't it be great if we could get the whole show on CZcams. I listened to it live at Captain America in Norwich eating hamburgers. It's one of those events when you know exactly where you were when it happened.

Never heard Johnny walker on radio 1 but heard he was on lunchtime s early 70s

4 minutes stitched together with stereo tracks - this is not what aired.

He played some decent stuff that last day as I recall. Zeppelin in the daytime - unheard ofon daytime Radio 1! (Saturday afternoon Fluff Freeman excepted) Phoney Blackburn would drive us spare with his endless Motown and Philly soul. Not at all what us South Wales rockers required.
