You have helped me very much. Those irregular investments like school fees, car insurance, christmas vacation are the ones that wreck havoc to my budget and I end up not saving or investing for long stretches. Now I know the cure - sinking funds. Asante sana.

You need an secondary source of income. Sometimes saving isn't the answer. You need to make more.

Sounds like you are doing well in the game, thumbs up. Why not leave them as they are just tweaking it to different goals? Just a thought.
Hey Susan? What is the difference between a sinking fund and an emergency fund? I feel like they are similar in terms of they ar holding money for future use. Does this mean we need to build an emergency fund first before getting to the sinking funds?
Sinking funds are for a particular goal e.g. laptop, vacation, education. You know when you need the money and how much you need.
Emergency funds are insurance for the future e.g. you lose your job and it contains at least 3 months worth of your monthly bills. There is no expected date of when or even if this will happen ( God forbid)
You should work on both simultaneously but after building a 3 months emergency saving you should look at investing
