    Best of the best. Him and F-14 Tomcat together were pure magic. It was an otherworldly experience watching him with a Tomcat. 9 - 10 G radius turns in full afterburner at 45 degree/second whipping the nose around with a big cloud of vapes, was his signature move. R.I.P Dale 'Snort' Snodgrass.

    I served with then Lt Commander Snodgrass ("Snort") during this time (mid 80's) in VF-143, Pukin' Dogs. Good Memories with all of the Dogs. So long ago.... RIP Captain!

    I remember him stopping by Nas Jax . He spoke to the young pilots and sailor's. He made a statement that I will never forget. " I miss flying my Tomcat with afterburners into the sky, " Too see the Face of God"!

    He was my boss in VF-143, The World Famous Pukin' Dogs. He was the QAO when I ran QA. This is when he was selected as Fighter Pilot of the Year. He was a great person to work for and arguably the best F-14 Driver ever. Gone way too soon! RIP Captain!

    It's true that, you don't know what you don't know. I'm know that I saw him fly several times back then. But I didn't know, at the time, who he was and what a privilege it was to see him fly.

    I saw him perform many times but my favorites where at the "high on Kalamazoo" air show where he always put on a great show. A highlight was always the flight of the Grumman "cats". A great aviator RIP.

    I had the privilege to meet Snort on a few occasions. He was kind and a true professional. No one flew the Tomcat like he did! I was honored to do a tribute chat about Snort with another F-14 pilot who I greatly admire... you can find it on my channel. RIP Snort.

    I served under snort in vf-33 as an aviation electrician. I got into the squadron just after they changed into the Starfighters. Sometimes his aircraft came back with missing panels and calfax screws because he stressed it so much pulling g’s.

      Racist and/or misogynist heard from. There are female aerobatic pilots who could have easily bested Snort in competition. There were many female fighter aces in the Soviet Air Force in WWII. The Black pilots of the Tuskegee Airmen were as good as any privileged white squadron. It is all about opportunity. Now go back to Fox News.

  • @sugrue8526
    @sugrue8526 Před měsícem

    I saw him put the F14 in a tail stand and sit almost motionless for a second in the middle of the runway at Pratt & Whitney. Fuel and vapors were spewing on the ground. We could feel the thrust on our faces. He continued vertical into a cloudless blue sky until we couldn’t see him anymore. I never knew if it was something wrong that he recovered from, or if it was all intentional. But he was dam impressive to say the least, and I remembered his name from that day. Years later when I opened the page of Air & Space showing him coming around the carrier with wing tip below deck, the hair on the back of my neck rose again and I knew it was him.

    Just yesterday I watched a video that went over the NTSB final report on Snort's fatal accident, with the cause being his failure to disengage the flight control lock before takeoff. Just goes to show that even the greatest pilots can make a simple but fatal mistake if they lose their focus and get into a hurry.
