Russian unit hiding in trees destroyed by Ukrainian artillery strike

- A Russian military unit was reportedly destroyed by Ukrainian artillery after it was found hiding in the only cover for miles.
The Russian armour and troops had been holed up on a line of trees surrounded by fields on all sides.
So when a Ukrainian drone came looking for targets, the Russians looked to be sitting ducks.
Video footage of the strike shows that within seconds a furious fusillade hammered down on the line of vehicles and men.
At one point a vehicle blew itself to pieces as the ammunition it was carrying apparently exploded.
The 28th Mechanised Brigade, named after the Knights of the First Winter Campaign, a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, boasted that their “eyes are everywhere” and they are able to take out the enemy from any position.
The Ukrainian brigade stated on 11th May: “Trying to hide from our knights, the occupiers forgot two truths: our eyes are everywhere, and our weapons will get them even from the ground.”

@@juicybox3306 If you are lobbing an unguided shell 20km, there's only so much accuracy that's possible. Even if the aim was _perfect_ to a fraction of a degree (traverse & elevation), charge variability and atmospherics are going to introduce variations to every shell. That the Ukranian shells were falling in a circle perfectly centred on the enemy, shows that they were as accurate as is actually possible. It was _very_ impressive.
@@juicybox3306 Lobbing a few shells into the surrounding fields is an effective tactic to prevent the invading forces from dispersing , or from leaving the primary target area.

It is a shame all the young lives wasted for a paranoid old man, but it is beautiful to see their efforts going up in smoke.

It's amazing to think this artillery could be firing from up to 25 miles (40km) away if using M777 howitzers. Even if it is 20miles (32km) away this is almost double the counter-artillery range of most Russian artillery, if present. This means the Ukrainian artillery using good drone forward observing and adjustments (which they clearly are using) and can range the targets in, quickly start making devastating hits, and not have the need to immediately "shoot and scoot". Noting the obvious Russian exceptions deployed in limited use, Soviet-era Russian artillery like the 2S3 has an effective range of just 10.5miles (16.9km).
They are using GPS guided artillery they only need the coordinates of the Russian locations
Love all these artillery experts! 155mm rap round will do 30km and a HE with a super 8 charge will do 24km and you are beating the hell out the gun shooting them and it will not take it for to long! Also the soviet 152mm does 24km too.
Also we should of sent the older m198 because the m777 sucks in the cold. Once it gets below freezing the m777 like to fall out of battery and the hydraulic go out!

@@marcharsveld2914 how does that negate what im saying?... there is plenty of footage of POWs... but there is plenty of footage of beaten up POWs... also there was video where russian POWs were shot in the kneecaps... if you really believe that russian POWs are treated like ladies you are naive... there is like 50/50 chance they are shot when captured, mostly depending on their role... artillery crews are shot every time, just like snipers, supporting crews are mostly spared for example...

When I was in Germany in the late eighties. We were terrified of the Russian, had to guard against all of those damn tanks what were we afraid of Propaganda it was all in our minds.
Was on the Fulda Gap in the mid-70's. I recall that the East Germans were always active and the Soviet units trained regularly to keep the Warsaw Pact together. The CCCP army was different then.
I believe the Soviet military was a lot better than the Russian.

Russian are learning fast, I remember a video from a month ago where the russians were "hiding" in open field and when they were shot they ran in circles.
Oh yeah, really 'fast'. It took them 2 months of war to realize 'hiding' in open field isn't a good idea. Now they hide their tanks in a single row of thickets along the road.

All the Russian minority were Ukrainian citizens of Russian heritage NOT Russians. Only the soldiers Putin moved in in and since 2014 are Russian. Just another example of Russian inefficiency. It looks like only about 3 rounds were on target with the line of trees. The rest hit out in the open fields where no targets were located. So while some Russians were certainly eliminated, it is really a rather far cry from the military unit being "destroyed" by Ukrainian artillery. That's assuming they never "fired for effect" on the two or three shots that actually found the tree line.
The thing will shells is that they don't have to hit the target to send the message. Those Russians in that tree line are scarred for life even if they make it out alive.

its open country... you cannot hide military equipment there... i know people like to laugh at russians but this is not their fault or lack of discipline... they are just lacking in modern warfare tactics... they should have their own drones circling around and recon units making sure there is no arty in range to destroy their positions

A10 would get shot right down by anti air missile or weapon. Only good if you have air superiority. This is artillery, much farther away and much safer.

yes agreed, there was very little (if any ) attempt by the Russians to camouflage or really hide the vehicles, the lorries stuck out like the proverbial sore thumb. Poor skills on the Russian side, good skills on the Ukranian side.

They aren't missing. They were expecting people to flee from the windbreak. Nobody fled from the windbreak. Also artillery is very devastating to infantry. The kill radius for a 155 mm shell is 70 meters. So even from that distance, shrapnel is going into the windbreak.

Russians have not much air cover in the battlefield nowadays as their planes and copters dropped like flies. So the Ukrainians defenders can take their time without worry too much of the counter strikes.
