    Can we normalize wearing Jedi robes?

    Now the hardest part is finding robes that look like that and match the Anakin color scheme

      Anakin’s sashes are made from leather, so you’d only need one dark brown under-tunic!

      I’m planning to look for black bathrobes to make Luke’s Mandolorian Jedi outfit. That would be far simpler to make.

    Ever since getting my girlfriend into Star Wars she's been saying we should make Jedi robes, we've found success in Rey style costume ideas for her but I wasn't having luck finding inspiration for the Obi-Wan style until now. This seems like the most straightforward and easy tutorial I've seen for this style, great job with this!! Now time to find some thin bathrobes that are the right color - speaking of the Obi-Wan show, I'm thinking of doing a color inspired by his slightly darker tunic that he wears in the second half of the show after being healed at The Path's hideout.

      I’m so glad it was helpful! I love his grey tunic from the second half of the show, I wish you luck on building the costume!

    How did you cut the 2nd bath robe to make the 3 parts?

  • @5tfd
    @5tfd Před 7 měsíci +2

    Amazing job on the costume! Quick question for the custom belt where you have your lightsaber D-ring hook up to the belt, what is the metal hook called that you used, and how did you fasten it to your leather belt.

    • @ColeFailing
      @ColeFailing  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thank you! I made the hook myself, I cut a long triangular wedge out of aluminum, drilled two holes into it (I show a quick photo of it in the vid), bent it into a U-shape and attached it to the belt with rivets. As far as I know there isn’t an official name for this type of clip, I think all the ones for Obi Wan, Luke, and Vader’s belts in the original trilogy were custom made. I hope this is helpful!

  • @binch3818
    @binch3818 Před 11 měsíci +5

    When you cut the robes to make the three parts, was there any specific parts you cut to get the size of them?

    • @ColeFailing
      @ColeFailing  Před 11 měsíci +5

      I cut the robe in half along the back and cut one continuous 6-inch wide strip of fabric from each half, cutting around the collar. The third belt-like sash can be made from a few different parts (sleeves, underarm fabric, etc) as it’s pretty small. Hope this helps!

    Did you need to shorten the 'BJALVEN’ robes from IKEA or have you kept it full length down the bottom?, did you also remove the pockets or keep them?

    • @ColeFailing
      @ColeFailing  Před měsícem

      Shortening the robes makes them more accurate to the Ewan McGregor tunic, and leaving them longer is more accurate to Alec Guinness. I personally left them long because I prefer that style, but it’s up to personal preference. I also left the pockets intact. I hope this helps!

      I got them from IKEA, they still sell them under the name ‘BJALVEN’. I’ve never had an issue with the sashes falling off but you could easily sew them to the shoulders if you’re worried about it.

      @@FireHoleAngler Everyone's sizes are going to be different, but I basically just cut the second robe into really long strips. At 0:50 you can see I cut the robe in half, and then I cut a continuous 6-inch-wide strip of material from each half. I made the waist sash from leftover fabric, there are lots of different ares of the robe that can be used for this.
