The reason why these song are over played is easy. They may be simple but there's a bigger reason. People love them. For them to be overplayed means people love the songs so I don't mind if I hear them, let people play what they want.

Dogewaffle1 it's not hard to play but hard to play right I can't play it but before my dad's hands got stiff he could play it one handed and good enough for everyone to rush over and watch I got second at a local sam ash bass competition but he almost won a scion from the guitar center guitar competition about 13 years ago I'm very proud of my pops he's easily one of the best guitarists I know (and I used to be a backstage bouncer for the Verizon wireless amphitheater and san Manuel pavilion in devor) and he is totally self taught no lessons

Wow, this is pretty much spot on and I've heard every one of them in guitar stores over and over again -except for 'Beat It'. Ain't never heard that one in a guitar store before. Not yet anyway.
I have a personal rule of no covers in the music store. I don't feel any performance anxiety over stuff I make up on the spot so I don't feel people silently judging me for not playing it perfectly.
