In this video I'm excited to try my new light to medium Shimano T Curve Rod and Stradic 4000 surf fishing setup and let you know what I think of it. The team at Mark Berg's Addict Tackle set me up with what I think is the best light to medium surf fishing combo.
The rod is a Shimano T Curve 11' two piece 3-6KG and I paired it with a Shimano Stradic 4000 FL reel. The reel is spooled with 12lb Tasman Braid and I am using a 12lb Shimano Ocea F leader.
To test it out I take an early minute on a Friday afternoon to head to Somerton Park beach in metropolitan Adelaide. I try beach lure fishing with soft plastics including, Zerek Soft Vibe Fishtrap, Zman Mud MinnowZ Plastic, Tackle Tactics Switchprawn + Vibe and the ever faithful Daiwa Slippery Dog top water lure.
Why did I buy this surf fishing setup? Well, in South Australia there are some amazing locations to fish from the beach. The whole South Australian coastline offers fantastic opportunities for fishing for a range of species. Most of the fish are small to medium size and over the years I've realised that for many surf fishing beginners make the mistake that I made and use a surf fishing setup that are too over the top, to heavy and too big, for the types of fish they are targeting to catch. Fishing for whiting, bream, flathead, mullet and the smaller Australian Salmon don't require heavy 20lb + setups but they do still require a reasonable length rod to get to where the fish are. So, I spent some significant time researching this light to medium setup to add to my growing collection of weapons to target these fish.
What I love about it? It's lightweight and balanced. I casted it for the whole afternoon and didn't feel any fatigue or sore arms at all. It also casts like a bullet with various lures and was also extremely accurate, even with relatively small lures with a cast weight recommendation of 30-60 grams.

Matt with your bucket put a length of pool noodle around the edge with a couple of shallow slits in it ,rest your rod in a slit ...no more risk of falling to the sand.😊

I hope to get a few more fish with it as the weather warms up. Next session will be with some bait chasing some whiting I think. I just took it out quickly on this session to give it a go!

Hi jogguys, I had to call Shimano direct on this as it isn't available in any of their literature. It is 321 grams. I hope that helps. Tight lines!
