Matthew it’s always great to see you. You don’t have to be enthusiastic about reading to see / hear from you. First thing I noticed was that you have the strength back in the arm you broke ( holding the laptop).
We have our election today. I have to get my bloods done at hospital and will vote on way home.

Omg i had no idea there was a sequel to Brooklyn. I absolutely loved that book but the idea of a sequel scares me

I'm currently listening to Change and in the beginning I absolutely loved it, but then it lost track for me a bit and I also agree with what you said in your review on IG.

It’s always such a treat seeing a new video from you. Hope you enjoy Long Island when you find a good day for it. Loved your articulate thoughts on all these books and the summery pallet of this video. Hope you’re doing well.

Really glad you like Knife. I haven't been able to get into Rushdie, but this one is waiting on my Kindle. Excited!

Hi Matthew! Hope you are well. I was thinking of doing this tag as well. And I really want to read Ours.
I found your discussion of your changing reading very resonant with my and my experience as a librarian. It is my job to know what people are going to be excited about and want to read (I purchase all the adult fiction, no pressure lol), which means I need to be able to recommend things that are popular and maybe not my taste, and also specifically meet the tastes of my community. I feel like I haven't had the best reading year in terms of personal satisfaction as a consequence. I think that's slowing my reading down a bit, but I am stretching myself to try things I would otherwise not. It's an interesting experiment, but I'm looking forward to getting more five stars. Or I need to learn how to read faster.

Yes, I was “begging and pleading and desperate to hear from you.” Haha. Love your videos and often get recommendations from you. :)

I'm very curious to hear/read your thoughts on Long Island when you get to it! I was on the library hold list for it for months before release and read through it promptly when it came out. I won't get into any details, but while the book really was not what I expected it to be, it prompted some very interesting conversations with other people!

PS I am currently reading Hombrecito and another interesting thing about the third-to-first-person shift is that when Santiago takes over the narrative voice, he says that he doesn't really remember their lives in Colombia. The opening being in third person allows him to remain distant from telling that story since he doesn't have many memories of that time.
