I think Belgium could be THE shock NQ. This was my winner early on and I think the staging and his voice are not what I expected. This year is very strong
Hope not, been one of my favourites from the start but the live performances so far were underwhelming. Great entry but he seems to keep struggling live with the chorus so at this point for me a ?
I kept hearing how he’s a great vocalist but I dont think his voice is strong. He also sounds shouty or off-key at certain points. Also I expected the final third to be very dramatic and from what I have seen to date, it’s not dramatic at all.
If we have a shock winner from outside the top5/6, I would love it to be Norway.
I'm still not over the fact, that Archille Lauro didn't qualify 😭
He basically went "if i won't get qualified, I will not qualify with style".

@GalacticGalahad well so is Sweden, and I’ve heard that they are having financial troubles hosting.
@@AW-EV-and-FTM In 2020 there was no ESC, so everything got pushed to 2021. That year was still a covid year & had MASSIVE restrictions. Ahoy Rotterdam was a Nightingale hospital just a few weeks before ESC. Even with those restrictions, they managed to break-even.
So when we as a country do get to host a _proper_ party, i imagine it's gonna be LARGE & LOUD!

They didn't even use all the pictures in the rehearsal because they didn't want to leak what they had. I want to see what Joost does.
Ok I know you like Joost and I’ve been breaking my brain trying to think of what the actual staging is gonna be like, so I’d like to share my theory. On the screen behind Joost you see 2 silhouettes, presumably Joost his parents. It looks like there’s a path going up with animation Joost running up/to the silhouettes. His TikTok’s and an interview with Dutch tv show a lot of Joost running away; “Ben aan het vluchten van mezelf/im running from myself”. He’s also mentioned that this will be the end of an era for him and he’s done feeling sad all the time about his parents dying still.
I think it will symbolize him running away from his pain all his life, even to other countries, and the Eurovision performance will be the closure and end of the chapter, time to move on kinda thing?
I’m at least pretty sure big bird won’t be in the actual show and is just Joost fucking with everyone lol. There’s TikTok’s about the bird being missing and about shooting him like in angry birds.

I can't get over the decision to make Mustii stand in the mic ring but then have him hold the mic he is singing with instead of putting it into one of the mic stands
That ruins the entire emersion of that setup and makes it look so cheap.
I was never the biggest fan of the song but I never really doubted that it wouldnt qualify. But I'm not so sure about that now

I really wanted to see Mustii's pearl studded balaclava on stage.... I'm glad Dons got that upgrade, that bodice looks great, and Gunnhild's dress almost looks like raven feathers - very cool
I really want Norway to do well this year. I love the entry and it might influence other Scandinavian countries to sing in their native language and show us more about their culture.
i think the bottom part of norways prop looks naked at some points but the liveblog said there was smoke to cover for that in the last of the three runthrough so i assume it will be covered in smoke and the whole staging will look more natural that way

Everything about Belgium’s staging is wrong. It needs to be dark. It doesn’t match the song at all, Musti looks like he could be a dancer for a Nadine Coyle gig in the George. Who dressed him. It’s actually upsetting.
I hate being this negative but it’s just so upsetting when a genuinely top class song’s chances are hurt by incompetent staging.
part of it is the songwriting too. why write a song that is outside your vocal range? If i was writing a eurovision song for myself, one of my priorities would be that i can sing it

I'm finding it difficult to differentiate between the entries of Malta, Cyprus, Luxembourg and Georgia. They all remind me of Eleni Foureira.
I don't care for any of them & Austria is even worse,(vocals) but on the basis of "Welcome back" i'd want Luxemburg in the final & on the basis of "please don't try to break the Dutch NQ streak" i'd want Georgia to qualify.
@@LeafHuntress I'm not really bothered which ones make it through, I just hope it's not all of them because it would make for a boring finale, I like a bit of variety. I don't hate any of the songs per se, I think I just have dance-break fatigue at this point, and basically if a song has hair-tossing and a dance break, it's not getting my votes.
I always wanted The Estonians to be in 2 separate groups and sing AT each other to illustrate their conflict.
I'm so stoked for Georgia. If they don't qualify (same with Ireland) I think they have all the right to be mad becuase they deserve it

That moon landing bit is taken out of context: they said the performance would impress people LIKE the moon landing did, they never said they would actually DO a moon landing.

I think that there are border line acts with the televote which I would personally speaking as a producer, I would like to see advance:
1. Albania: Besa, Titan
2. Denmark: Saba, Sand - A bit boring standing on a platform.
3. Latvia: Dons, Hollow - Dons just standing there is not going to be sufficient to advance to the Grand Final, I am afraid.
4. Portugal: Iolanda, Grito
The international professional juries will not vote on which acts from the Semi-Finals will move on to the Grand Final; only the televote selects which act from the Semi-Finals moves to the Grand Final.
My personal NQs for both Semi-Finals, with the televote "effect" are:
Semi-Final 1 Not Qualifying:
1. Iceland : Hera Björk, Scared of Heights
2. Moldova : Natalia Barbu, In the Middle
3. Azerbaijan : Fahree feat. Ilkin Dovlatov, Özünlə apar

Silia does a good job but I find the staging lacking impact. Edge to Luxembourg as it comes back to Eurovision so there might be subjectivity in the televote and EBU.
Semi-Final 2 - Girl's "Bops"
1. Malta: Sarah Bonnici, Loop
2. Austria: Kaleen, We Will Rave
3. Georgia: Nutsa Buzaladze, Firefighter
I think the favorite is Kaleen. For me.- strong dance performance but weak vocals; sometimes, out of breath. I think that both Kaleen and Nutza will advance to the Grand Final.
In general, I do not favor props which require the performance to stand on it as it rotates or goes up and down as it could potentially affect the vocal performance and delivery; and if something goes unpredictably wrong with the prop, it will most likely impact the performance as the incident was not scripted and the artist was not prepared to address.
Hey, what are your thoughts about 2nd rehearsals clips? I feel like camera angles are a bit off for everyone, maybe they're not the final shots? Is it possible that they released just examples?

I believe Latvia unfortunately can't afford to send few more Dons for the stage, but I also have the impression, that more drama needs to happen on the stage.

I have to disagree with you on the on-screen graphics for Norway, Tom. For me, in MGP that was a part of why I didn't like it at all - that they cut into Norwegian nature which didn't feel natural. They have the LED background now, and I hope they keep it at that and use that instead to give that feel - it'll be less forced imho. For me, the song does nothing, but if they have dropped the on-screen graphics then this is an upgrade I'm happy with from MGP

Tom, you know I love your videos but I don’t know, this year Eurovision just feels so FLAT. There has been hardly any coverage here in the UK so far and I don’t think even the BBC has done a podcast like they did last year. I think it essentially comes down to our entry, he just doesn’t seem very likable and the song, despite all its hype, is majorly average.. It’s a shame, the UK needed a bit of a boost after last year! Oh well, there’s always 2025.

But if you cannot deliver criticism when it's due, it's not good. Yes, talking about NL here.
