For penetration is PPSH-41, but 9mm have HP, JHP(ammo that makes bigger wound than FMJ without kevlar or any other body armor). I think that MP-40 is compact, FA controlable and lighter. PPSH-41 have high rate of fire and it is chambered in 7,62×25(good for penetration), i think it is more accurate that MP-40(becouse of wobly overlapping stock on MP-40).

ppsh is heavier, some has low quality reputation but the ammo and fire rate packs a punch. Even the drum mag is heavy, ppsh is heavy in general. Mp40 lighter, more accurate but less damage less weight. If I have low ammo and enemy are far away, i use mp40, if u wanna sweep the floor, use ppsh. For me I want ppsh41 with 71 drum mag becuz I'm not sweeping or sniping, I'm having fun but ill also be happy to get mp40 and see how it goes

I’ve fired both and while the MP-40 is one of the smoothest firing guns I’ve shot, it doesn’t have the punch or the rate of fore that the ppsh-41 has. German soldiers used them frequently because of their reliability and rate of fire. They were even rechambered to fire 9mm by the Germans.

Not a lot of people talk about how the MP38 was originally a vehicle crew weapon, it's kinda lame for a reason, it shoots slower; saves ammo, has a folding stock with no cheekweld; compact, this is a great gun for vehicle crews, but Germany definitely could've used a better submachine gun for their infantry. Something for example like the MP28 or MP34 which both could use a bayonet, had fixed stocks and had a faster rpm than the MP40.

The movie "Stalingrad" a German movie, a German officer tell his soldiers if they find any ppsh 41 take them because they are better than their mp 40.
In this test, despite two guns are being shot by the same shooter, it is not the way to test the accuracy and the penetration power. Guns needs to be fixated on a clamp or something like that. The way he keeps the ppsh is not the same as he keeps the mp. His left hand on mp stands on the magazine, on the ppsh stands very close to the right hand which makes the control harder, So not a true test. My opinion, ppsh wins in every kind of competition vs mp.

  • @andreit3100

Both have advantages and disadvantages. But the production of PPSh took significantly less labor costs, it was cheaper. And the Soviet army has much more of these submachine guns, than Germans have MP-40, 38. The PPSh is not the only submachine gun in the Soviet (Red) Army. There was also a SudAev submachine gun.
It is better to write in English PPSh. Sh is the initial sound in the surname of the designer ShpAgin. In the Russian language there is a separate letter "Ш". In English, you have to use two letters "Sh".

German units usually only had the platoon leader carry an MP-40, while his men carried rifles or the light machine gun.
Soviet units had far more soldiers armed with PPSH-41s because these could be produced quicker and more efficiently than rifles.
The large ammo drums used onthe PPSH-41 weren't very practicable though. Each drum took longer to reload and it was difficult to carry spare drums on you.
I believe they also issued PPSH-41s with 30 round magazines later on for that reason.
And of course the PPS-43 which followed was produced in even larger numbers and looks more 'svelte' as in a 'Russian MP-40.'

Not trying to be a armchair quarterback or anything but I did notice you flinch right before each trigger pull. Maybe you are not used to these beautiful antiques but this is extremely common and even seasoned shooters don't realize they do it. Interesting that your flinch tends to send your rounds only up based on the pattern and spread of the two guns. You can probably just compensate for it but a better way would be to train yourself to correct it. One way to do that is to load a magazine with a random amount of live and dummy rounds and when firing it take your time with each trigger pull. Focus on your movement and take it as slow as you possibly can. You'll notice the flinch when you pull the trigger on a dummy round. The idea is to stop that and to keep pulling the trigger slowly until you no longer do it on a dummy or live round.

This specific MP40 was shooting high left and the PPSH shot a bit high but both are still pretty accurate.
Recoil is almost not there with the MP40, the PPSH has a bit more because of the fire rate but is still very controllable.

The PPS-43 is sort of like a hybrid between the MP40 and PPSH. Its all metal construction and folding stock have the features of the Mp40. Its ammo, handguard, and magazine takes that of the PPSH. Honestly the PPS is my favorite SMG of the war. But between these two id take the MP40

PPSH-41. Battle proven to be much more reliable than MP40. On top of that, with the drum mag it was 71 rounds vs 32 in MP40. No wonder Germans were dropping MP40 for PPSH-41 whenever opportunity came.

  • @continentalmilitaria
    @continentalmilitaria Před rokem +1

I used to have an MP40 and now have 2 PPSH41s. For the fun factor the PPSH41 wins but not for ergonomics where the better one is the MP40. The ergo on a PPSH41 with a drum is terrible not to mention the problem of not having a pistol grip. The PPSH41 has the upper hand on the power of the round, solid construction, reliability and that it is auto and semi fire. The MP40 wins on ergonomics, magazine changing and handling. Just note that the Russians then made the PPS43 with a stick magazine a mag well like and a folding stock like an MP 40, what does that tell us? In the choice of only these two, I guess I would take the PPSH41 with the stick mags. If the PPS43 has a selector switch in my opinion it would be the best subgun of WW2 with the best features of both the PPSH41 and MP40 less the selector switch. Also the PPSH41 is only an inch shorter than an AK47. In a modern SHTF situation where I needed a subgun I would take the Vz26.
