- One of the most exciting contemporary players, Manuel Gardner Fernandes demonstrates Ibanez QX54QM, and talks about the advantages of Q series and slanted fret installed on QX models.
With new developments in instrument technology, the prominence of more technical playing styles, and players’ desire for lighter, more portable instruments, today’s headless guitars are pushing far beyond designs of the past. However, even with all these advancements, Ibanez still saw an exciting opportunity in this space.
The Q(Quest) series is an entirely new concept for Ibanez. The “Quest” in this case was to not just to adapt an existing instrument into a headless design, but to develop an entirely new guitar from the ground up. This range features a number of unique elements intended to maximize tone, performance, and playing comfort. These include, custom designed R1 single coil and Q58 humbucker pickups, a new monotone bridge, and a proprietary custom string locking mechanism. The QX subseries is also equipped with innovative 8-degree inward slanted frets, uniquely tailoring their ergonomics to the benefit of highly technical players.
Ultimately, this series offers a diverse and versatile enough feature set to attract not only the modern, technical guitarist, but also players who may have never even considered a headless guitar before. Regardless of genre, Q (Quest) allows guitarists of every background to question the full scope of their creative possibilities.

Ibanez really out here collecting all my favorite guitarists like Pokémon
yeah, they also on a headless guitar kick now, and i like it
🤣🤣
Yeah it must be easy to be in artist relations these days. Just browse Instagram.
Was about to say
This is such a beautiful comment. 😂
You are breaking new ground with guitar. Amazing!
I cant get enough love the song
Your era has started buddy 💯🌟😌
@Manuel Gardner-Fernandes my dude I know this obviously has touches of FernandeS and Vibrato. But that intro and that chord progression early on when the melody really kicks in is so sexy. Would love a tutorial or at least tabs. I wanna know those sexy chords. Plus the intro is one ofnthe best uses of natural harmonics I've seen from you and that is a hell of a statement!
@@solomondaniel6670 Unprocessed just dropped a video shoot video where they said they're going a different direction. Given the heavier metal influence of their earlier material and Artifical Void getting closer to the smooth djent/Polyphia vibe (especially after dropping Real and Deadrose) I think this Manu era is going to shine through the new Unprocessed album. I have really high hopes and it will put them on the map in a big way for this niche market. But I've let basic music people listen to Real and no one has said anything but "wow, that's good". To which I reply "well duh, I have the best taste in music on the planet" lol
I am 54 years old and I am blown away by the things that young guitarists are doing now days! Guys like Manuel, Ichika, Max Ostro, Yvette Young, Tim Henson and others are taking guitar playing to new levels.
@@TFT-bp8zk Quiet! You'll blow my cover you human fool! I must find the over thruster and return to the 8th Dimension.
Wish more ""older"" people could be more open like this!
@@armorgiraffe so what you’re saying is that I’m “older.” Older than what? 😂
@@rudybigboote3883 uuuh *sweats*
@@liamhemmings9039 lmao conservative is one way to put it.
Ibanez is really going all out and dominating this modern era.
…they’ve been dominating shred since the beginning. This is nothing new.
The guitar gods are rising up, ichika got a signature and Manuels being featured, we just need a Manuel signature now.
It's coming.
Yes, we do.
@@jackalterman actually Manuel has a band, it's called Unprocessed, check it out!
I couldn’t agree more. Manuel has so much quality content shared.
Cool, what would it do, speed up videos? Lmao
Ichika, Manuel, Tim, Yvette. Professors and scholars of Math Rock, and their instrument of choice is an Ibanez.
Don't forget the Chon bois
Ibanez's out there collecting all guitar heros
@@ttdrex9569 They've been doing this since Vai. Vai, Satriani, Petrucci, Methney and Benson on the jazz side, Petrucci and Abasi for a while, and now these guys. Ibanez has always had a strong line up
@@thesmellycatjazz …and Paul
Dont forget scott lol
This new Ibenez lineup is full of crazy talent. Love his work I don’t know how he can be that accurate! Can’t wait to get my hands on Ichika’s signature!
Already preordered mine …
I was stoked on the ICHI10 then I saw this is multiscale
@@1hqpstol this not multiscale. Its just normal 25.5" for all strings
@@firhanrizani96 and i think the ichi10 doesnt even have slanted frets
@@ellinayey7713 yes of course ichi version use normal fret
This style of playing seems to be the future for new generations, I just hope Ibanez keeps making great guitars for us old timers.
The best thing about their newer lines like the AZ means playing shred/math rock sounds great and is easier but I through a Plumes in front of mine for some Hendrix vibes and it sounded incredible, hopefully something for everyone there :)
Nothing's stopping you playing old stuff on new gear.
why buying an ibanez? versatility
@@christophermills9348 I have a Jem and RG, both are a bit old and I was thinking about getting and AZ for it's versatility. I love the JS chrome but I think it's to expensive for just the satch tone and looks
@@AstorSkywalker What do you mean by versatility? If it has a H-S-H configuration, that's as versatile as it gets in terms of tonal options. The versatility of the person playing the guitar is the determining factor.
First Ichika now Manuel damn!!! This just gets better & better
Tim Henson, Yvette Young, Ichika and now Manuel :O
Well Damn!!!! I've never heard anything like that in my life. Those muted banjo rolls he is effortlessly doing are absolutely insane. And the fact he is doing it without finger picks,...?...?...?...is pure Insanity. This guy is just phenomenal. They must have created this guy in a genetics lab or something.
Just try and imagine him going back in time to 1987 and walking into any music store in L.A.. Could you imagine how people would react???🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm still trying to decide if I like these new headless models. I've been an Ibanez guy for nearly 23 years and I just don't know about these. Maybe in the hand is the correct procedure to make that determination. Thanks Ibanez. Thanks for all the years of quality craftsmanship. WELL DONE.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Good to see them finally releasing new designs more quickly, and bringing in modern players to showcase them. I guess they learned their lesson from Tosin leaving.
I absolutely love these new guitars, and these younger artists are killing it and are so inspiring. I hope Ibanez continues on with this style. Amazing
Tim, Yvette, Ichika now hopefully Manuel: Ibanez trying to assemble their own Avengers
And you forgot about Scottie LePage and Chon
Ibanez has Steve Vai and Joe Satriani
So happy to see Ibanez pushing and supporting young artists, Well played
Very unique and talented player.
I'd be very interested in the 7 string versions of this guitar if a left handed model was available
Fire! Big fan of this new lineup!
lets get tim and scott on here too! Can't wait to see what happens next
They already have signatures! Tim has the THBB10 and Scottie has the SLM10
@@xsolar ik, i just wanted to hear their opinions on the new series! I appreciate the reply tho
Hmm idk
@@xsolar their guitars are in the background of this video lol
It's so awesome when a company puts effort into a product the same way the artist does to demonstrate it.
Remember when everyone was saying this dude was speeding up his videos? Call out culture is so toxic! This dude kills it! Awesome playing man! Awesome guitar too!
Oooooh, loving those divinely unique tones and percussive effects which inspire me as a guitarist and those passionate lively chords are such a nice rush to the senses!
Spectacular song and an equally spectacular guitar. Wow Ibanez...great job
Ibanez is the way to go!! Ibanez ftw!! Ibanez rules!! 🤘🤘
Ibanez bringing it big with this new lineup! This is awesome!
just played this guitar today and it is amazing
I feel a new generation of guitar gods emerging and i love it
well done Ibanez im a big fan of all of your guitarrist and the guitars u guys make
I bought this guitar today because of Manuel, what an inspiration!
Whoever talks like Rock is dead/new music sucks
This is Manuel for you, love him or hate him
He is amazing at every possible aspect
A true inspiration
And a new generation Guitar Hero for me
I think I can understand where all the hate about the tone is coming from but I think we should listen to this for the music rather than just the guitar tone which is really good. That's just my opinion though
How impress the world with the signatures guitars songs
amazing sounds
The guitar is gorgeous...but the song is even better!
Now that's what we call progression and adapt with the modern times and not being stuck in the past like Gibson!
Awesome!
Nice axe, superb playing!
This is insane. 😳🔥
Does the quest series come with this talent
No but it surely comes with a plastic nut at a 1000$
@@spookyspooks7567 where it is made??
it doesn't for him lmao
I wish it did! Lol.
That's impressive... I really wish I thought this out the box, musically speaking.
Uber rad!! Kiesels n Strandbergs are up for a tough contender at this price point and workmanship of Ibanez!!
He’s a damn KILLER! 🔥🔥🔥
Beautiful guitar. Not a fan of headless but this one caught my attention!
he got to post this tune on spotify
He'll yeah, Ibby stepping up into the headless world! I can see myself with this, oh yeah!
so glad to see MGF getting the recognition he deserves
The QX models really have my attention, the QX52 in particular. Would love to try out those slanted frets.
Slanting the frets but not making it a multiscale seems tremendously silly.
Not necessarily on a six string. I have a fan feet Ibanez seven string, and there the benefit is the increased tension on the top string. But for playability the slant away (first couple of frets) part sucks … the slant toward you is much more ergo.
On a six string you are less worried about getting more tension on the E string. So slanting towards you for pure ergonomics might be better. I’d have to try it.
Ibanez out here doing gods work. Make electric guitar great again
AWESOME PLAYER!! Ibanez is justo selecting the most incredible talents!! just by adding Bernth Brodträger and Rick Graham Ibanez totally will be out of this world !
This exact guitar but 7 string, i love the idea of a hss headless guitar
Tim, Yvette, Manuel, Ichika my heroes. Makes me wanna sell my guitars and play Ibanez.
Ola Strandberg really revived the headless didn’t he 😏
Nope, not until Kiesel Guitars joined in, then things really started to take off.
I dislike the Strindberg saddles and feeble nut locks. (Hate zero frets too). I think Ibanez made some smart discussions with their design choices. Not too sure about the shape though...
Just when you think you've seen it all in terms of guitar playing, then along comes a new artist and they take the instrument in a whole new direction, and it's like, is that the same guitar (instrument) that I've always known!!!
Perfect tone for instagram guitarist
It covers up all the editing/quantising they do because there is no tail/sustain, many frauds out there.
Damn dude!!💥💥
great song
Yeah!!! No worst 0 fret - no problems on bends! jack in right place. Looking cool, Ibanez best like always)))
Ibanez is snapping up the best new talent … brilliant!
now say to me that the ibanez crew sped up this video
Huge difference between this and his videos with sped-up audio.
@@AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE bruh
@@natsukisubaru2683 Yes?
It's obviously sped up man... Tone barely sounds like a guitar
He sped up some of his old videos. He doesn't do it anymore but it would have been great if he at least admitted that he did.
I'm patiently waiting for the Martin Miller evertune true temprament model.
I need a Manuel's solo album 🤗
i hope ibanez will make some with whammy too, but anyway i cant wait to have this guitar. awesome
NGL this is a stunning headless. Gonna have to find one of these because the necks seem crazy thin with 19mm at both 1st and 12th frets.
Looks and sounds good!!
Was a bit puzzled by those "fanfrets that don't fan" though ;) but he explains it well enough.
Minor gripe: the ambient background music really clashed with what he tried to show. YMMV.
Give the man a signature model!
They gave him a qx54 in custom color. This is his unofficial signature for now
That is a sick ass riff
Guitar 🎸 Tab on my channel !
Mega 😍
complimenti
Ibanez esta fabricando guitarras Headless definitivamente geniales o:
Nito's signature is to die for..
Best palm mute technique hands down.
Fascinating. It's how I imagine that a replicant would sound.
Tim hensen pioneered such a wonderful playing, now most of the Guitar players playing in that style but it's awesome they are delivering great music 🎶
Didn't polyphia unprocessed and chon all start around the same time though?
Brave new mindboggling player…..
WE NEED A MANUEL SIGNATURE NOW!!!!
Manuel's signature model on the way? I really hope so Ibanez...
Me: I don't need anymore guitars
Ibanez: Hold my beer
Ibanez Era
From hated on Instagram guitarist to sponsored ibanez artist. Well done, Manuel
This dude gangsterrrr
It’s like a headless Reb Beach signature guitar.
I’m glad they did this but I’m not liking the cutout behind the bridge. Perhaps a change in the next incarnation?
Manuel’s right hand is ridiculous!
ngl this is the first ibanez I've actually kinda wanted
Se viene la era headless en Ibanez? 🤔
Damn ol son got some licks....bad ass
Omg pls take my money ibz ! I need this
Woah, so it doesn’t have fanned frets, just angled frets? That’s pretty cool. I really hope I can afford this guitar soon.
Hi i'm Manuel Fernandes.. i'm a guitarist from Germany -> well, didn't see that coming lol.
I hope there will be a Made In Japan Prestige version of those Q guitars !
They should make a multiscale for the Q series, also with Fishman fluence modern pickups, that would be absolutely killer.
_ibanez entering the market_
We really need Johnny Silverhands guitar next
Grazie Maikol Gekksonn
Beach Bar Shredding is becoming increasingly popular.
late but strong 🔥
This is fucking insane ❤️❤️
Great guitar, but what really annoyes me is, that the nut width is only 42mm.
This is, after the AZ, the second new Ibanez guitar with a narrower fretboard than the RG, the S, the RGA, the RGD, the Xiphos and others ...
I can't play 42mm necks well!
People are getting taller, but fretboards are getting narrower?
Bad idea!
Tsssssss......
Que delicia de rolita!
unreal
Let’s hope there’s a lefty model
lol at the turtle neck and those pants.
But your playing in super cool... Interested in checking this guy out
