Though the xiaomi 12 is not up to expectations, I think it's not bad it really performs well but the thing is I love pixels' portrait and selfie photos better.
Agreed Portrait & selfie camera is where google pixel 6 really dominating xiaomi 12. But to be honest this Xiaomi 12 is kinda above expectation for a newrealeased device. The main weakness is the same thing found on its predecesor that makes me doubt it will be fixed, instead they planning to improve the other area. I mean this phone advertise its selfie compared to iPhone 13 & they proud of it cuz, they think selfie taker is just girls that want to look more beautiful than reality and almost all Chinese brands do this...Almost
My girlfriend is Thai and even she hates the unnatural selfie photos from my MI 9SE. It's just garbage. And the Xiaomi 12 seems to be similar. Waiting for improvements since years, bit probably need to go with another brand.
Considering has just been released Xiaomi 12 camera is promising it does give a good fight to Pixel 6, especially the main camera both daylight & night time video, the sky color representation, stabilization, contrast, daylight photo. But there some area where it fall apart like Dynamic range in video, heavily beautification & inacurate skin tone, bad portrait, mediocre selfie photo & video, indoor photo shadows too dark & poor ultrawide nightmode. software update could improve the camera performance of Xiaomi 12, but right now Pixel 6 is the overall winner. Pixel 6 phones really suffer from that horrible lens flare in direct light. Why is no reviewers mention that? As a photographer lens flare is one of the worst thing a lens/camera can produce.

Looking forward to it. Like the design of the Xiaomi 12 but wasn't particularly impressed with the indoor photos compared to the Xiaomi 11 when I tried it in a couple of shopping malls today. The Xiaomi 11 clearly had significantly better detail and brighter shadows but that was just in a shopping mall environment. It's a new sensor for Xiaomi though so I'm sure they will optimise it quickly. The shutter speed is definitely faster with the imx766 sensor compared to the hmx or even GN2 as claimed. The photo processing speed is also faster so the overall photo taking experience is improved. This is going to be an interesting one for the main sensor. Hope the Xiaomi 12 can compete well for the main sensor

Basically, I paid a booking deposit for this one so I wanted to check whether or not I liked the camera. On the fence now but I think your video is going to give me a much better idea!
comes down to regional availability.In US pixel still holds value for money for what you get.In Regions where pixel is not sold,xiaomi may be a better option.But xiaomi needs to optimize software.Google still showed they can do wonders with their software.Xiaomi should learn from vivo as well.In the US PIXEL 6 with deals can go as low as 500usd which is a very good deal(I only see slow charging and weaker processor with no cooling as shortcomings).
Agreed, for US market there's no better option than pixel 6 at this time. Btw Pixel 6 can actually charge at 30 watt with acefast 32watt charger, which already reviewed on this channel, please check that.

Wow! What a good start from Xiaomi 12! Way better than Oneplus does, I must say. They just need to work on their selfie, portrait and wide angle, though. But nothing that a future update can't correct.. For the price, I must say, the 12's main cam is impressive!
Camera is one of the most important feature for me and this video greatly helped me to come to a decision. 10/10 going for Pixle 6 which is also a lot cheaper than mi12.

I think Xiaomi 12 5x zoom night time and 4K video looked better and I assume it have the better sensor. If you end up with a similar looking result I'd much rather have better result from better data from the sensor than algoritms making it look pretty right. You can also see on the zoomed in building with the sign where the fronting/concrete of the building and angled lines looked better on the Xiaomi 12 but the lit up sign maybe looked better on the Pixel 6 I assume because of algoritms sharpening it up and such but ..
Google pixel 6 is win battle, but The xiaomi 12 has been optimized as a Chinese skin tone, so its skin tone has so many beauty effects, If you compare it again after the launch of Global Variant then we can better understand which is the best, Then the phone will be updated and a lot will be optimized, Thanks for giving us the first xiaomi 12 camera comparison video👌👍

Hello. Good general user comparison. I miss more photographers approach in most reviews such as this, making them kinda same in a way. Larger sensor with more pixels should occassionaly, where allowed by the scene and situation, wipe the floor with the lesser one. If that does not happen due to the lack of users skill, I miss that greatly. It does not do justice to the camera, does not show true power of the sensor, and slides down to grey average of reviews. Looking forward to see what 12Pro can do. Happy new year!
Both did a good job depending situations,sometimes mi12 managed better sky color,contrast and details but in some it looking way too processed. Selfie quality is below average and in portraits nothing special like usual. Night vid is much better on mi also the contrasty feel of mi in daytime is really eye pleasing and better. In night mode pixel showed its power of greatest software. Mi12 can improve with an update
Hmmm. When will xiaomi fix its goddamn awful human subject photos. Jeesh as someone who takes a lot of human subject photos like myself and family this is a huge segment for me. The only segment it which the mi 12 completely beats the pixel is rear camera video in which post processing doesn't matter and relies mostly on hardware (except iphone).as someone who uses the selfie camera a lot. Theres a reason why I dont like xiaomi flagships. I prefer most pictures of the pixel primarily because of its color science. It looks so natural and has a bit more detail imo. Great video han!

Overall pixel 6 is the winner most of the time it out perform Xiaomi 12 specially in selfie video, ultrawide night mode, portrait mode but it actually comparable when it comes just on human photography with pixel 6 I wonder why. Daytime photos are on match it's just a matter of preference, I also noticed that Xiaomi 12 have better video stabilization most of the time. As always great video comparison Han😁🥰.

Obviously, the pixel 6 won this overall. Actually, the Xiaomi 12 held up reasonably well in general for the rear main sensor but there were a few areas where it fell behind. People pictures were actually not bad on the Xiaomi 12 but the portraits were bad for this level of phone. I think they really need to work on that. I also didn't really like the indoor photos on the Xiaomi 12. They are very high in contrast, which results in very dark shadows but it's probably more of a personal preference thing. On the plus side video quality in daytime is very good on the Xiaomi 12. Your conclusion is exactly what i thought in relation to the Xiaomi 11. Maybe it will change with updates but only time will tell. Anyway, thanks for an insightful video. Even none of the Chinese reviewers seemed to cover the Xiaomi 12. It's all Xiaomi 12 pro for some reason

The OLED panel is made by TCL CSOT, which is one of the leading display makers. Mi 10 Ultra used TCL OLED, that phone had one of best displays in 2020 and it didn't have burn-in issue so far. Btw, Samsung Display also owns quite a lot of shares in TCL CSOT
Xiaomi 12 video record was amazing😍, and for potrait mode i chose xiaomi because the hair was creepy on pixel 6, its like mid range phone potrait mod 🤣.

I'm surprised that Xiaomi 12 fought Pixel 6 well even with the first camera software. In portrait and selfie videos, it's still lacking behind but hope the software updates fix these weaknesses. My choice will be Xiaomi 12 since it has strong hardware specs and I'm not a fan of stock android with Pixel experience. I can't wait to test the stability and fluidity of MIUI 13.
2 major throw off. Xiaomi selfie cam and UI. Not being able to shoot atleast 4k60 on the front camera in 2022 with a flagship phone ia beyond me. Also the UI is so buggy and full of bloatware. And the fact that they will make the mi 12 ultra china exclusive again wont booster up their reputation. Yess their budget and mid eange are second to none but yet again those are the botrom d9gs
@@blackmercury956 For me, I rarely takes selfie videos. MIUI has improved a lot since MIUI 12.5 in which almost all bloatwares including system apps can be removed within minutes. I've been using Mi 11 Ultra and now Redmi K40 and haven't encountered major bug since MIUI 12.5. Animations are also nearly perfect and only a little bit of optimization is needed. I hope MIUI 13 will fulfill its needs.

The Xiaomi has improved dramatically in comparison to other competitors such as the Pixel in this case. Daytime wide and ultrawide photos look the same in most cases as all flagship phones take excellent photos these days. The Pixel has slight oversaturated of the sky in general daytime photography but it isn't that bad. Video is good on both but the Pixel adds saturation to the sky while the Xiaomi has accurate representation of the colour of the sky. The Xiaomi also has better stabilization in 1080p & 4K Indoor photography is great on both but the Pixel takes the crown with higher detail, wider FOV, better white balance and balanced contrast ratio. Human subject photography is where Xiaomi has lagged the most. Their beautification algorithm has been toned down but is still slightly present while the Pixel 6 is a BEAST at capturing fine details and preserving textures. Bokeh is slightly better looking on the Xiaomi. Indoor human photography on the Xiaomi is not good which was expected since Xiaomi has never been good at that. DENS - Details | Exposure | Noise | Shadows The ultimate way of judging night time photos. Using this method the Google wins with its incredible Night Sight which is industry leading. Xiaomi has really caught up to it though and with a few software updates it may even outperform it. Ultrawide night mode on the Xiaomi needs A LOT of work and also produces blurry image if there is slight movement while shooting. Night Time zoom at 2x is better on the Xiaomi but above that magnification the Google takes back the lead. Selfies are better on the Google since the Xiaomi produces highly modified selfie photos ready for sharing on social media. The Pixel has a more accurate skin tone and better details. Great video Han. To summarise I think that the Xiaomi did excellent considering that it has just been released and like the Mi11 Series it will improve alot over time. Can't wait to see how the Ultra Version performs.
This was a very close battle! I can't pick a winner. Human subject photos and selfies are really bad on Xiaomi 12 and Pixel won this clearly. In all the other aspects it's very close and I couldn't pick a winner, except for Videos, where Xiaomi did way better than Pixel 6. As Xiaomi will bring some updates which will improve the camera performance I think Xiaomi 12 will take the win in a few months. However the thing with the heavy beauty effect and skin fairness won't change because Xiaomi does that on purpose, I mean they even advertise it sometimes, but I don't understand why this isn't an option can enable and disable instead of implementing it in stock camera algorithm.
xiaomi got destroyed in portrait mode. im actually surprised at how bad that portrait mode is on xiaomi 12. most phones are generally closer nowadays, any phone can go toe to toe with any flagship now, so its sad to see xiaomi do so bad. i think they did it on purpose, because they want to sell the ultra model when it comes out. im sure that phone will definitely do something amazing.
I also have the same thought, it seems like they intentionally make Portrait photo looks bad to sell the pro which they highlight the tele portrait 2x zooms in lauching event. And it could be even much better on 12 Ultra

Pixel has more correct on colors and better OIS. Basically it won. Xiaomi's camera still needs to be inproved. A high end phone need better video records.
ISP & camera sensor is a hardware that has potential, we need good software image processing aka Stock camera app algorhytm to pulled out the best from the hardware like what you see with Google camera app on pixel

Xiaomi is going to smaller flagships now and I like that. Bigger isn't always better. Phones should be comfortable to grasp

Hello. Good general user comparison. I miss more photographers approach in most reviews such as this, making them kinda same in a way. Larger sensor with more pixels should occassionaly, where allowed by the scene and situation, wipe the floor with the lesser one. If that does not happen due to the lack of users skill, I miss that greatly. It does not do justice to the camera, does not show true power of the sensor, and slides down to grey average of reviews. Looking forward to see what 12Pro can do. Happy new year!

xiaomi and other chinese phone are only focusing on hardware specs, without thinking about optimization
Most of Chinese brands do that except for some impressive phone
Both did a good job depending situations,sometimes mi12 managed better sky color,contrast and details but in some it looking way too processed. Selfie quality is below average and in portraits nothing special like usual. Night vid is much better on mi also the contrasty feel of mi in daytime is really eye pleasing and better. In night mode pixel showed its power of greatest software.

Hmmm. When will xiaomi fix its goddamn awful human subject photos. Jeesh as someone who takes a lot of human subject photos like myself and family this is a huge segment for me. The only segment it which the mi 12 completely beats the pixel is rear camera video in which post processing doesn't matter and relies mostly on hardware (except iphone).as someone who uses the selfie camera a lot. Theres a reason why I dont like xiaomi flagships. I prefer most pictures of the pixel primarily because of its color science. It looks so natural and has a bit more detail imo. Great video han!

Overall pixel 6 is the winner most of the time it out perform Xiaomi 12 specially in selfie video, ultrawide night mode, portrait mode but it actually comparable when it comes just on human photography with pixel 6 I wonder why. Daytime photos are on match it's just a matter of preference, I also noticed that Xiaomi 12 have better video stabilization most of the time. As always great video comparison Han😁🥰.

Obviously, the pixel 6 won this overall. Actually, the Xiaomi 12 held up reasonably well in general for the rear main sensor but there were a few areas where it fell behind. People pictures were actually not bad on the Xiaomi 12 but the portraits were bad for this level of phone. I think they really need to work on that. I also didn't really like the indoor photos on the Xiaomi 12. They are very high in contrast, which results in very dark shadows but it's probably more of a personal preference thing. On the plus side video quality in daytime is very good on the Xiaomi 12. Your conclusion is exactly what i thought in relation to the Xiaomi 11. Maybe it will change with updates but only time will tell. Anyway, thanks for an insightful video. Even none of the Chinese reviewers seemed to cover the Xiaomi 12. It's all Xiaomi 12 pro for some reason

The OLED panel is made by TCL CSOT, which is one of the leading display makers. Mi 10 Ultra used TCL OLED, that phone had one of best displays in 2020 and it didn't have burn-in issue so far. Btw, Samsung Display also owns quite a lot of shares in TCL CSOT

I'm surprised that Xiaomi 12 fought Pixel 6 well even with the first camera software. In portrait and selfie videos, it's still lacking behind but hope the software updates fix these weaknesses. My choice will be Xiaomi 12 since it has strong hardware specs and I'm not a fan of stock android with Pixel experience. I can't wait to test the stability and fluidity of MIUI 13.

2 major throw off. Xiaomi selfie cam and UI. Not being able to shoot atleast 4k60 on the front camera in 2022 with a flagship phone ia beyond me. Also the UI is so buggy and full of bloatware. And the fact that they will make the mi 12 ultra china exclusive again wont booster up their reputation. Yess their budget and mid eange are second to none but yet again those are the botrom d9gs
@@blackmercury956 For me, I rarely takes selfie videos. MIUI has improved a lot since MIUI 12.5 in which almost all bloatwares including system apps can be removed within minutes. I've been using Mi 11 Ultra and now Redmi K40 and haven't encountered major bug since MIUI 12.5. Animations are also nearly perfect and only a little bit of optimization is needed. I hope MIUI 13 will fulfill its needs.

In my opinion the display of Xiaomi 12 is a bit better between these two phones👍
The Xiaomi has improved dramatically in comparison to other competitors such as the Pixel in this case. Daytime wide and ultrawide photos look the same in most cases as all flagship phones take excellent photos these days. The Pixel has slight oversaturated of the sky in general daytime photography but it isn't that bad.
Video is good on both but the Pixel adds saturation to the sky while the Xiaomi has accurate representation of the colour of the sky. The Xiaomi also has better stabilization in 1080p & 4K
Indoor photography is great on both but the Pixel takes the crown with higher detail, wider FOV, better white balance and balanced contrast ratio.
Human subject photography is where Xiaomi has lagged the most. Their beautification algorithm has been toned down but is still slightly present while the Pixel 6 is a BEAST at capturing fine details and preserving textures. Bokeh is slightly better looking on the Xiaomi.
Indoor human photography on the Xiaomi is not good which was expected since Xiaomi has never been good at that.

The ultimate way of judging night time photos. Using this method the Google wins with its incredible Night Sight which is industry leading. Xiaomi has really caught up to it though and with a few software updates it may even outperform it.
Ultrawide night mode on the Xiaomi needs A LOT of work and also produces blurry image if there is slight movement while shooting.
Night Time zoom at 2x is better on the Xiaomi but above that magnification the Google takes back the lead.
Selfies are better on the Google since the Xiaomi produces highly modified selfie photos ready for sharing on social media. The Pixel has a more accurate skin tone and better details.
Great video Han. To summarise I think that the Xiaomi did excellent considering that it has just been released and like the Mi11 Series it will improve alot over time. Can't wait to see how the Ultra Version performs.

This was a very close battle! I can't pick a winner. Human subject photos and selfies are really bad on Xiaomi 12 and Pixel won this clearly. In all the other aspects it's very close and I couldn't pick a winner, except for Videos, where Xiaomi did way better than Pixel 6. As Xiaomi will bring some updates which will improve the camera performance I think Xiaomi 12 will take the win in a few months. However the thing with the heavy beauty effect and skin fairness won't change because Xiaomi does that on purpose, I mean they even advertise it sometimes, but I don't understand why this isn't an option can enable and disable instead of implementing it in stock camera algorithm.

xiaomi got destroyed in portrait mode. im actually surprised at how bad that portrait mode is on xiaomi 12. most phones are generally closer nowadays, any phone can go toe to toe with any flagship now, so its sad to see xiaomi do so bad. i think they did it on purpose, because they want to sell the ultra model when it comes out. im sure that phone will definitely do something amazing.
I also have the same thought, it seems like they intentionally make Portrait photo looks bad to sell the pro which they highlight the tele portrait 2x zooms in lauching event. And it could be even much better on 12 Ultra
