I met him only four or five times. He was highly intelligent and cultured. I was going to interview him for my first PhD but sadly he died before it was possible - and he was understandably reticent about giving interviews on matters of detail. In that regard he was the opposite of most people in the business - he did NOT court the publicity associated with high levels of professional ferrocity. I was close friends with people who knew Mr Spiers very well indeed, and all attest that he was never an agressor, never thuggish or volatile. I have no doubts - ZERO, NIL - that he was capable of the most extreme violence... but I formed a strong impression he was also a man of principle and honour. In his ''civilian' activities he was the sort of person your mum would describe as ' a real gentleman' ... mine did.

The "long firm" was perfected by Charlie and Eddie back in the day, they made serious serious gelt from that alone. Helped with tame old bill ensured to develop a very myopic eye to it going on hehe My second hand car operation was closed down by a FS inspector and I swear he was looking for a bung more than a nick, said to me I needed to take a holiday because some of my sold motors happened to be used in naughty no no's and they were looking to tie me in for 'piracy, aiding and supplying or I could go visit me mum in Bournemouth for an extended holiday, we were gone by end of week to Dorset where I have stayed ever since. I always like to trot out the banter between me and this old bill, I says to him "So you want me to have a sign, wear a T shirt saying 'my cars are only for sale IF you aren't going to rob a post office with it'? yes?", I was such a lary scut back then full of me own mustard but to be fair we both had a good laugh about it... It was down in Bournemouth I got approached about John Ackerman's whereabouts so someone noticed where I went lol These days I deal in watches, self taught watchsmith, honest money too as sometimes you score an absolute diamond of a piece :D

@@enquirer2.0 fair enough mate. I’ve seen 2 of my favourite crime/hardman podcasts, yourself and Matt Legg both refer to him as a martial legend & I’ve asked around as high as you can go in the martial arts industry in Australia and nobody seems to know of him.
I have no doubt the man was an absolute weapon on the streets & earned his reputation, I just question his martial arts background in australia/New Zealand as any type of legend
