    Thank you for sharing. Everything you stated is fact. I’ve been a reading teacher for 8 years now. Applying what you are stating has allowed so many of my students to grow as readers and learn to love reading.

    As a "reading interventionist" at a MS/HS private school (I actually teach Science and Literature and do intervention two days a week), the only training I've had is my background in Language Arts and things that my friend who is an actual interventionist" has taught me. Thank you for this information. I value it.

    Hi Emily, for my first year of teaching 6th grade Reading I get their opinion if they like to read or not and go from their. Then I will follow by doing a script of how I read in 6th grade and ask their opinions on how I read. I will follow or introduce my standards and explain why we need standards. Great Content please upload more!!!!!!!

      Hi Avia! Consider adding a quick 1 minute oral reading fluency assessment for your kids so you can hear each one read. You will learn so much!

    I utilize ESGI and Unit tests for progress monitoring. I also use the DRA results that classroom teachers share with me and our universal screener.

    You have some great info here. What resources are a good fit for 6th-8th grade reading intervention? Everything I’m finding usually pertains to lower elementary.

      Hi Laurie! Thanks so much for your comment and question! I taught 7-8th grade intervention for 10 years. Those were some of the best years of my career. For this level you have to really get creative. I became my students' English teacher and we blocked their class in the master schedule, so I had them for almost 2 hours every day. I was able to provide the grade level core instruction while differentiating and scaffolding, but also build in skill instruction that was heavy in fluency, multisyllabic word decoding, writing, and comprehension. We always start with the data. Find a good screening tool and get an ORF on all of your students then look deeper with the QPS or some other phonics assessment. I used 6 Minute solution as a fluency builder, REWARDS for multisyllabic words, and Word Generation (available for free. Check out SERP) for vocabulary. :)

    • @TipsMom
      @TipsMom Před rokem

      Sorry miss. Actually, I played in many time your video to understand the skill that we need to teach in intervention reading. Do you mean that those skill are
      1. Skill to decode text
      2. Skill to gain vocabulary and knowledge and
      3. Skill to be fluent
      I am just paraphrasing.
      Thank you miss... Your video is so meaningful for me ❤
