  • I for one was getting sick of constantly changing adapter plates every time I wanted to attach my camera to something different. My Tripod had a plate. My monopod used no plate and attached directly. My harness had it's own plate. My strap had it's own plate. It seemed never ending! Almost by accident I stumbled on the Cotton Carrier System Universal Tripod Adapter Plate, and I haven't looked back since!
This quick video shows you how this one plate solves 3 (and a half) of the problems I had with constantly changing mounting plates!

Merci beaucoup pour votre excellent vidéo! I think I found a solution in my problem. I wanted to Cotton Carrier Harness with my 200-600mm lens and use-it at the same time my Gimbal. I just ordered a 5" plate for my Gimbal and I will install the Hub in the extremity of the plate and opposite side where the lens Collar is installed. When I will install my lens on my Gimbal, the Hub will not interfered since it will locate outside the Gimbal arca-swiss plate.

I just received my 5'' plate and installed the Cotton Hub. Now, I can carry my Sony 200-600mm on my harness and used my Gimbal without changing nothing! Unfortunalety, can not post a picture!

That’s great! Honestly it’s the whole reason I made that video. I felt it is an under appreciated piece of equipment that has saved me a lot of hassle!

Super useful video, I hadn’t thought about gimbal mounting issue but I’m in a similar spot (birding with a gimbal and telephoto lenses that all have arc-Swiss mounts).
Any thoughts on the hip rig from cotton carrier? Trying to move weight off my back (I still have a backpack) for longer nature hikes etc.

Thanks! Funny thing is I didn’t think about the gimbal mounting issue until I literally tried to mount it and thought...”well that’s not gonna work!”
Haven’t tried the cotton hip carrier, though I did ponder it. Wasn’t sure if it might flop around too much or not. Perhaps if one were to keep a hand on it while walking? When I use my strap my camera generally hand at about that location and I do usually keep a hand on it for stabilization. I think cotton carrier does have a good return policy if you try it and don’t like it, might be worth a shot to get some weight off your back!

@@davidschliepp4334 that was my thinking, it would then allow for a back pack to carry items that you don't need "right away", I think I'm going to give it a try.

hello. Thank you for the video. so i have the same problem with the gimbal installation, however, I have a large 200-600mm lens. Do you have a solution for mounting the foot to the gimbal with the cotton carrier? from what I've read, you shouldn't hold it by the camera with a large lens. rather the weight to carry is the lens so that you don't have a sheering effect on the mount.

So with my 150-600, I used to have the cotton carrier plate mounted to the foot of that. I found that with the round adapter for the harness, it stuck out so far that it was awkward and didn’t feel right when walking around. It’s one of the reasons I stopped using the actual cotton carrier system and switched to a strap (I use a peak design strap). I attach the strap to the cotton plate on the camera on one end and the lens foot on the other. I sling it over a shoulder and across my body so it rests under my arm. Also you are absolutely correct, you never want to let your camera alone take the weight of a lens that large. If that doesn’t answer your question let me know and I can try to clarify. Take care!
