KiwiRail's Wairarapa log trains - April 2023 (4K)

Over a week-long period, we film KiwiRail's Wairarapa log trains hauled by DL and DFB class locomotives seen at Multiple locations between Waingawa and Featherston on the Wairarapa line.
We see DFB 7348 shunting log wagons at the Waingawa yard where they are loaded for their 85-kilometer journey south to Wellington. Over the next 5 nights, we see Elephant style DFBs paired on train 645 at multiple locations.

KiwiRail should be moving way more logs than they are. Underinvestment means the full potential of the railway network is not reached. There are nowhere near enough log wagons. The Napier to Wairoa railway was rebuilt for log train 4 years ago. It will cost money to re-instate it, but it will take hundreds of log trucks off SH2, which is quite restricted sine the cyclone.
The Coalition Government has no rail plan. There should be investment in electrification, re-instating closed lines such as Stratford - Okahukura and Napier - Wairoa - Gisborne. The latter will need a major rebuild, and in the Whareratas some route alterations so that the line is safer from the elements.
I see none of this from any party nor the opposition.

Great viewing. Theres a few truck n trailer loads being carried there. What time is the logger arrive at Waingawa during the daylight hours? Wouldnt mind driving up there one day

Thanks! At the moment during the week 644 (empty log train) arrived at 4-5am and then 645 (full log train) leaves at 10pm. Over the weekend there are day time log trains such as (642 arrives at Waingawa at 7:26am) , (643 leaving Waingawa at 11:40am) , (646 Arriving at 12:45pm) and (647 departing at 5:25pm)
