Slow living. Itâs a term youâve likely heard because the movement is rapidly gaining popularity but maybe your understanding of what it actually is, is kinda vague. In this video, I am going to debunk slow living and finally define for you what it is. As well as give you three easy tips to start implementing slow living in your life right now.
If you're new here, welcome! I'm Madi, creating videos about minimalism and slow living every Wednesday. In my videos you will see my minimalist home, my capsule wardrobe, decluttering, inspiration for slow living with kids, intentional living, minimalist finances, things I no longer buy, things I no longer own, things I buy more of as a minimalist, and just overall my passion and inspiration for simple living!

This is not a revolutionary ideaâŚitâs the way life was when I was growing up. Itâs sad that we need all these fancy terms and instructionsâŚbut, I am very happy to see that more people are longing to return to something that was better. Your videos are very well done, and your family is blessed to have you.
So true Donna. Get back to the old times. Thanks for watching â¤ď¸
We all need to get back to the garden.
SO TRUE!
As someone who was raised by parents who have taught me to go-go-go all the time and then shamed me for choosing to stay home with my children and homeschool them and be a homemaker, this is very revolutionary. Not all of us were blessed enough to live like this, and this is very new to many people.
Me too been slow living cottage style for 45 years
In Italy itâs simply our way of life; Vita Lenta, joy in simplicity and mundane. Savoring the most simple things, even doing the laundry!
I am now in San Diego and I am still living as if I am in Italy.
And taking time to eat your meal and make it beautiful is pure magic to us Italians. The fast pace of life and hustle culture here is a silent killer of the soul. â¤ď¸
We Americans have a lot to learn from you! â¤ď¸

i love this âŚwell said đŤśđź
Slow living, to me, means embracing the reality that we can't have everything and finding contentment in what we can afford and possess. It's about living life to the fullest with what we have, rather than constantly yearning for more. Instead of longing for additional possessions, I now focus on maximizing the value of what I already have.
Well said â¤ď¸
I did a complete 360 with my life back in May. I had been wanting out of my hometown for a few years and was finally able to take the step. I had a mortgage of $1,000 a month and was in a city of 750,000 people. I went to a city two and a half hours away with less than 2,300 people , bought a home with a mortgage of $200 a month. I cannot relay how many reasons there are that I made the right decision. No more waiting in any kind of traffic. I have one stoplight in my town. No rude people to stand in front of or behind at the stores. No multiple home invasions, thefts or assaults. Seven farmers markets in my area. Instantaneous service no matter where I go. The list goes on and on. A simpler, happier life can be accomplished if you put in the effort to make the change!
Awesome. Thanks for watching Audrey â¤ď¸
Definitely slow living and minimalism is different for each individual. I work and study and my kids do sport (because they want to). Having a minimalist wardrobe has made my life massively easier. Also decluttering my home means less to clean. I see people rush and up my backside while Iâm driving and to stop stress I get up earlier enjoy the sunshine I leave home earlier so Iâm not stressing. Small things can bring your day slower but still do what you need to do such as work and study and run a household.
Your videos have really raised my awareness of how often everyone around me talks being busy, as if it's relevant to their status & value. I loved the example of throwing chicken nuggets in the back of the minivan, which is a reality for so many parents. You've also previously said children typically means chaos because that's what we're taught to believe. I often need weeks to unpack & reflect on your videos. I am so grateful for your work here on CZcams! I loved learning about the start of the slow living movement. I can see it because when we go to Greece I feel so happy. Our trips are a slower pace of life without a TV & few possessions, but lots of nature, people, books & good food.
Our culture really does wear âbusyâ as a badge of honor. Thanks for your support!
Good for you, Madisun, for discovering in your youth a life based in Biblical principles. Slow living came to me too late. I say too late because I paid a price before living the right life. It wasn't until in my recovery from late-stage 3 cancer, in my quest to understand how I could get so sick, that I learned life's best lessons. I love Proverbs 31 because it speaks to God's ideal woman. I love Philippians 4:8 because it speaks to the right mindset. What we think about, we bring about: thoughts = feelings = actions = results. Monitoring our thoughts is imperative to living a good and fulfilled life. Thank you, Madisun, for sharing what you share. It'll help arrest the minds of those who need saving before going down the wrong path as I had more than 25 years ago. đĽ°đ
Thanks for watching â¤ď¸
I had been going thru a difficult time due to some tragic setbacks in life. Had lost all motivation to live life fully, take care of daily chores like cleaning the house, cooking etc
I did want to get back on track but didnât know how. So I prayed to send me motivation. And your video of boring is beautiful showed up. Truly inspiring. Agree with everything especially when you said about journaling. It is the daily mundane things that should inspire us to make life meaningful .
Thank you. Needed that.
Iâm so glad you are here. Thanks for watching â¤ď¸
This makes me think about how to pull this into the classroom as a teacher. I already have an unusual classroom for an 8th grade history teacher - taking cues from Montessori and keeping it sensory friendly and calm. Now youâve got me thinking about the challenge of removing *rush* from my lessons.
Keep up the good work Madisunđ
Another teacher here, high school art. We often start class with a guided meditation or some yoga stretches and deep breathing. Itâs not a lot, but I hope my students can take that moment to pause and breath and at least observe how they feel in all the hustle of life these days.
Thanks for encouraging people to embrace the simple joys of life! I too live a quiet lifeâŚ.staying home to raise my children, home schooling and all that comes with keeping a home. Thank you for including scripture. Enjoy your day!đ¤
Thank you Karmen â¤ď¸ I appreciate the encouragement
Nothingness is important- so crazy important. Even our heavenly Father rested on the 7th day and commanded us to do so as well. He knows we need rest. We need blankness. We need slow movement and scratch cooking. We need easy community.
Much love mama
So true â¤ď¸
Not only are your videos beneficial, I find them very soothing. Your voice, demeanor and vibe is just calming and very comforting. I love your simplicity, low maintenance, minimal outlook on everything in life. I appreciate you and your content.
Thank you so much! â¤ď¸ Have a wonderful day
I agree- all of her videos are so helpful in so many ways!
Yes! Agreed! The whole video is just so soothing. If I'm craving some down time I'll just put on a video.
I feel like this is exactly what I needed to hear in order to give myself permission to schedule LESS this year and let that FOMO (especially in regards to my kids) just CHILL and take a backseat to the freedom of spaciousness in our lives. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and journey ⤠God bless you
Love that!
Itâs interesting how Biblical concepts become trendy without people necessarily knowing their origins.
Back in 2005 I was a work-a-holicâŚit took 3 auto accidents to get me to stop, slow down and look around and pray about my purpose and calling.
Itâs always people, of which I never had time for when I was working 82 hours a week for months on end every month!
Becoming disabled with Fibromyalgia has been nothing more but miraculous in getting to know the meaning of life, and get to know Abba even moreâŚ
The biblical purpose of minimalism is contentmentâŚbeing thankful for all we have and not coveting what others have.
Abba God supplies all our âneedsâ not wants although sometimes He may, in any case He always knows best.
Heâs working and Iâm so thankful! May He continue to reveal Himself to you and all who live for Him, Praise Jesus!
Well done! Intentional slow living has transformed my life into peaceful living. You are offering such a gift through your videos. Thanks for being encouraging and awesome!â¤
Thank you for being here Julie â¤ď¸
I grew up in a very fast paced family culture with the âchucking chicken nuggets in the back seat of a mini van.â We were always over scheduled and traveling. I totally get that and am so happy Iâm trying to live a different life. â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸

Hi, new subscriber here. My journey toward minimalism and slow living started when I was pregnant with my second baby (I have four now). It has sometimes been baby steps and sometimes going backwards but I praise the Lord that He led me in this direction of "less is more" and keeping things simple so my kids can be kids. Anyway, your videos are an inspiration and so beautiful! Thank you for
sharing your life, thoughts, time with us on CZcams â¤

Youâve got a sub from me, Iâm really trying to incorporate this more in my life. This is the first video Iâve seen from you and itâs really well done. Thanks for this content, Iâm glad to see more people are getting into this. Have a good one!
Thanks for watching â¤ď¸
I make time for my nap, I make time to enjoy each mouthful of food I consume, I make time for my bath, making it special, I do love adding fresh herbs to my bath like rosemary flowers, chammamile flowers, epsom salt and bicarb soda.. and watch my favourite video like yours.. and I make time for sitting in the sun, walking barefoot and listening to the birds.. eating mainly 90% fruit, I don't need to cook, cleaning is minimal so I have more time for me and prayer.. â¨đđ¸
honestly, going into even 5 minutes of the hustle of the city, I feel sick, I shake and I don't like feeling anxious, stress or any negative emotions no more.. I choose how I feel in every situation.. if its unavoidable then I sit and pray then react.. â¨đđ
Thank you this will certainly be a step to take for my 2023 đđž
Your content is always really inspiring and encouraging to me. I am so glad i found your channel! This video was great - as always. Thank you for sharing your wisdom Madi đ

Dear Madi,
I just want to say Thank You! Your videos are so inspiring to me and I feel it's what my soul is yearning for. Years are passing by so quickly and I'm struggling with my kids growing so fast. I already took so much out of this video, that I feel your Wholehearted Course will give me a great boost of energy, which I need a lot at this time of the year.
Wishing you all the best all the long way from Germany. đ¤
Iâm so glad. Thank you for the kind words â¤ď¸ Iâm so excited for the course, Iâve poured my heart into it.
Madisun, you are so wonderful and I enjoy every video you produce, I'm a mom to 8 and my life has been everything but slow. But now that my youngest is 6 and I see the effects that overproductivity has had on me during my mothering journey , I definitely embrace a slower way of life now. It's so good to be quiet and still and just live.
Iâm so glad you are here â¤ď¸
I legit benefit from your vids.
I want for nothing and this gives me the control in life I have been subconsciously waiting for
Exactly!!đ¤đđ
So inspiring for me to hear this. Thank you.
Thank you for your explanation of the real meaning of slow living. I used to live in London and couldn't imagine a slower paced life. After a few years in the English countryside, I'm definitely embracing the beauty of nature and slower paced life!
Love it. Thanks for watching â¤ď¸
Simplicity Parenting is awesome. I have reread it a couple of times now, and my life is definitely better because of it.

Absolutely loved this video :). Over the last few years my partner and I have shifted our focus so we can embrace a slower lifestyle. It's been better than we could have imagined.
Your channel is so inspiring and encouraging. I am truly beginning to rethink so much about my lifestyle and how I am raising my daughter. Thank you

Thank you for the reminder about how I choose to perceive time. It is so easy to get caught up in the rush and hustle (employers certainly love it) and lose track of being mindful and intentional about how we carve out our beautiful days. It makes me think of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet and the âBizzy Backsonâ (busy, back soon)âŚitâs so easy to get sucked back in. I donât think you are in Hawaii any more, but I am on Oahu and just discovered your channel yesterday - enjoying your great content and philosophy. Iâm 50 and my kids are teenagers now, but minimalism and slowness is something I have have embraced for years (along with frugality, self-sufficiency, urban homesteading etc). I think it is especially important when the kids are little.
So true â¤ď¸ and I can see us back in Hawaii some point soon.
And yes when i had my son 15 yrs ago it was ao hard to adjust to the slow pace but it was so lovely for good childhood
Love your new channel and content, thank you.đ
What a great video! Please post more on slow living đ
Thank you for these practical tips! I am excited to read the book about slow living for families đ
You are so welcome!
Thank you for encouraging how to still live in today's time with technology (within reason), but still be able to desire and aim for simple living and all its benefits. âĄ
Yes! Itâs definitely not all bad â¤ď¸
loved this video !!!!! so informative⤠will be implementing these ideas !!
Iâm so glad you enjoyed it â¤ď¸
Thanks for your concise introduction and booktips. I can really find myself in your values of what you seek in life, apart from me not being a parent (yet). I think they are important values that fit with humans that long for a stronger connection with nature and other people.
I also quickly realized while watching this and reflecting what my own life looks like, that I am at the very beginning of the process of slowing down and living more in accordance with my own preferences and pace.
Reading through all the comments here is nice, there are so many positive people here and you've liked or quick commented on all of them. I made a very long post about how my life is very fast paced and the moments where I can find my peace, but decided not to include it here. I love writing, even if it is just youtube comments, but there is a time and a place for everything.
Another wonderful video Maddi, thank you đ as a busy Nurse, I used to work through my lunch break but after finding you, I take my full break every day â¤ď¸
That is so amazing! So proud of you â¤ď¸
I needed this. It is so easing.
Iâm so glad this resonated with you â¤ď¸
Thanks so much for the book recommendations. I bought the audio version of "In Praise of Slowness". I'm enjoying it so far.
For 3 years, my partner and I slow traveled Europe full time, often staying 3 months in a location so we could live like locals. One thing that really stood out to us: in Bordeaux France, frriends would meet for picnics directly after work. They'd sit on the grass and open a bottle of wine and have picnic baskets full of food and just leisurely talk by the river. No one was frantically rushing to the subway or the freeway. It made such an impact on me to see people living at a slower pace. It's harder being back in America now because the culture worships frantic pace and too much work.
Iâm so glad you are enjoying it â¤ď¸
love the book recommendations! Some of the ones you recommend are free on kindle unlimited (in the UK). Right now I'm reading First Forty Days and I love it. I love learning about growing, healing and nourishing, the somewhat lost arts of women and mothers. It's so good to reclaim this domain as a mother! I really look forward to the course and the podcast!
SUCH a good one! I love that one. â¤ď¸
Actually, Iâd love to know. As a reader, do you like to keep your books in the physical form? Or do you read more ebooks/audiobooks? Also, could you please make a video how you organise/store homeschooling materials?
I loved this video!
I live with my đś dog. No offense taken đđđ
BTW, Iâm into this. I started unintentionally realizing that I have the mindset, but was still in the rat race. I have been pulling away from the fast, clutter filled life. It started mentally at first. Now Iâm moving into phase ll and am actually practicing some changes. Thank you đ
Thanks for watching â¤ď¸
This video blessed my soul! I am a newlywed đť I have 2 daughters, one newborn, and 3 bonus daughters! Decluttering and slow living is my personal favorite. However, Iâm coming into an entirely different space where fast movement and lots of clothes, food, and all the things is present! Any tips on getting your spouse to hop on the slow living train?
Honest conversation about how you are feeling is always the best way â¤ď¸
Iâve been a working mom for the last 10 years and have recently left a job that I loved so that I can spend my time more intentionally with and for my family. I am pleased to the point of giddiness with the major life shift but feel like there is so much build up to chip away at and want/need to do (decluttering, neglected home repair items, meal prep and budgeting, birthdays and the upcoming holidays, volunteering at school events for my big kids and caring for my 11 month old, Wife-ing) that I still often find myself rushing. Iâm definitely more at peace than before knowing there will be more time for these things but in the meantime maybe you have some tips for when the feelings of anxiousness/urgency sneak up on me?
That is natural but itâs not the truth. You have value and worth for just being you â¤ď¸

Hi - New to your channel. Love all that I am hearing and seeing so far.
This is so helpful and so me. Iâm an advanced writer and I have a powerful imagination. The book-reading is weird for me because of how my brain has made these stories come to life. Still yet I hope to get better at it. But Iâm off to a good start. Slow living is definitely who I am. Bout to go hunt deer and do the living off nature hopefully in the future
I needed this. Believe it or not I live off grid and have homeschooled for years but I still feel constant fight or flight and run out of money.
Im so glad you enjoyed it â¤ď¸
I just recently found your channel and have been adopting some minimalist principles over the last several years. I'm a Christian also and was wondering what your thoughts are on reconciling slow living with living the Christian life, where do you think they line up well & where are maybe some pitfalls to faith?
good video-ty on the thought of time... it's funny how some days or sometimes time is so big and full and slower-adventures I've had when I was younger especially-some days were so big and broad-and to use a word my mom liked-delicious-... and other days just seem to race by-I mean like we can go out shopping and get back home and unload groceries and it seems like the whole afternoon has gone by... which brings me to an old Mexican proverb I want to share"... he who takes his time, time follows behind him like a patient donkey."
Thank you for this video! As an European woman and mother I love living my life slow. I am too "busy" enjoying live and my free time, to chasing others people money and fake susscess goals.
This is awesome â¤ď¸
Slow living starts with eliminating the people and activities that suck your time and energy. If it does not benefit my intention of family and self care first, then itâs off my plate with no regrets or apologies. I have a long way to go with mindful consumerism but I will get there.
All about Boundaries â¤ď¸

I am new around here. Great video. I live a fairly slow, simple life, but I find that I have a hard time slowing down my mind, I am always filling my mind with more and more content, goals, etc. My brain is just too full. I need to find a way to declutter my brain. haha

Sister, please do a video on how to get this gorgeous hair!
You know, I can certainly afford it..cos I'm on SSDI. I get a good check, plus I work as an Interpreter 8-5 on the phone from home, making about $700.-$800. per month. I'm a young 64 and I'd really be interested in doing this seriously.đ Thank you for sharing
Slow living is a lifeline for me. Iâve been forced to downsize and I am having trouble letting go of my old city life. I only wish it was to a cottage in the countryside.
Just got 3 of the books! So excited to dive into them! Any other favorite parenting books?

Hi. I just found you and watched a couple of your videos. Love them. I am 51 years and have been a preschool teacher for 23 years. I work part time. Slow living is not a new concept, it goes back to the greek philosophies hundreds of years ago. It was also a 1960's movement but under another name. However your modern day outlook is very relevant as life is so much more busy because people have become more materialistic. Good on you in valuing your family and time. Social media and having your life on a phone is in my opinion is the modern day stress producer.
Thanks for all your content! I adore your videos and find them very inspiring ⤠I would love videos on your daily rhythm and weekly rhythm đ
