- #CriticalCustoms It was finally time to paint the 3d printed widebody Volvo Go-Kart, and it turned out even better than I hoped it would!! It also got some nice rims, I mounted the side mirrors and we had a talk with Andrej who this the design.

Looking good, can't wait for the next one! Also, if you can still see the individual LED lights with the new strip, you can try sanding the plastic that goes over it to make it more frosted.

Thanks man! Yeah i would still have to go this far to get the surface before being able to do a mold, and i dont really have space or the time to make more right now 😅 but it would be cool. Trying to get the next episode out in 3 weeks hopefully

Honestly bro im not sure of your current family situation but hearing your dad and family used to have a shop, if your dad knows / saw what youre doing im sure he would he proud. This is coming from a young father in 🇨🇦
For the front light you can use glas that has the inside all rought up so you can't see through it, but light can still escape from it.
that's what I did at 17:37, and with the new lights I got it turned out perfect :)

I think for longevity of the mirrors you may want to upgrade the mounting system to rivnuts instead of the CA glue that way they don’t unexpectedly pop off or break off at speed
I think you’re right! 😅 but i didnt want to use riv nut because im afraid it will crack the plastic when inserting it
@@criticaly you can use the press-in(heated) ruthex style thread inserts, I never used bigger than M5, but the smaller one I use on regular basis for my printed parts...
@@PachezZ alright, yeah Ive got inserts in other printed parts before and if I would have planned this better I would have had the base of the mirror printed solid. Now there is very little plastic there 😅 I might just glue them to the body

Very happy to see the evolution of this cool project. I'm working this month on just a little more one for a customer. My fear is still for pla body, at least one or two layer of fiberglass inside before paint would have been cool. I hope it won't break before you decide to make a mold from this plug. you should use a really dark window tint film over the headlights
It will sort of be that, we’re putting a decal over that looks like the original head/taillight and that will tint it as well, kinda

bondo glazing and spot putty mastic is the best to get a perfect result on 3d printed models
From what i found its a type of filler for small repairs in a tube? I think that would be very expensive for something of this size 😅

Maybe you already finished the lights, but if you didnt - Try offseting the LED strips just above / below behind the light cutouts if possible. They will glow less bright (less functional) since the light will "bounce" before exiting the cutouts, but you won't see the LEDs at all from the front.
Thanks man! Ive just got some new stripes that are solid and it will be both the plastic diffusion and the vinyl decal ontop so i think it will work out. I dont want the light to be too weak either 😅

Grymt jobb! Inte sett hela videon men måste lägga en fråga. Var det lackeraren som sa att du skulle slipa med 800? Det är lite väl fint för att få färgen att sitta kvar sen ju.. Skulle kört 500 på maskin så hade det gått snabbare och blivit enklare o få ner strukturen, man vill inte ha en blank yta att lacka på =)
Jag körde inte lika fint innan slipgrunden, det var den som jag slipade ner med 800. Fast efter vi lagt det svarta använde vi 600. Jag förstod det som att man ville ha samma yta på slipgrunden som efter lack. Vet inte om det beror på vilken typ av färg man kör? 🤷🏻♂️

Om du har tillgång till en trasig LCD-tv så finns det tunna tunna plast-skivor mellan bakbelysningen och led-skärmen. Det är de bästa du kan hitta för att få en utsmetad grumlig belysning.
Men sen så skulle du nog haft ledlist med mycket tätare led's.

What white pen do you use to paint the details on rims? I must get same. PS. cut out lights and repring with translucent filament in front and solidcolor at back. left the ledstrip shape cutted out in the 3D model so that you are not printing it on the solid backing but you are printing it on the traslucent front layer.
Yeah i scrapped that idea, its too hard to cut it out because of the way the whole thing is printed and i cant cut anything out now after its painted 😆I think the decal covered soultion im doing will look nice 😇🙏🏻
The pen was a Posca i think
Thanks for the answer on the paintpen. BTW, now it is impossible, unless done into inside, but I would be highly suspicious about how long super glue is going to keep your printed parts together. Sanding it inside now with rough paper, and putting few layers of carbon fiber would be very beneficial...

For the lights try electroluminescent tape. It comes in many colors and is very easy to use.

Idk if you used automotive paint, but that stuff is incredibly toxic so use the same protection as the painter for your own sake the next time
