Ohtani has to be in the conversation as one of the greatest baseball players of all time, for what he is doing as a hitter and pitcher. It's unheard of. Simply majestic to watch.

China lost, but I was surprised that the level of Chinese baseball was higher than I thought.
Probably China is the country with the highest growth potential in the baseball world.
They have a lot of young and growing players.
Yup.
Some of the players didn't even appear to be Chinese, but maybe Korean or Japanese diaspora with half Chinese ancestory playing for the PRC. Most appeared to be Han Chinese though. But I agree, it just depends on how much the PRC wants to develop youth baseball and promote collegiate or professional leagues to develop the game.

I’ve been trying to get back into baseball after a very long time. This is the first game I’ve watch in its entirety in probably a decade and a half. The scoreline might not show it but China fought hard in this game. Respect to the kid starting for them and their manager for calming him and the rest of the team down. Also, Ohtani is my new favorite player. Dude is ridiculously talented.
Gosh, the crowd was absolutely hype today! Losing sleep was worth it watching Ohtani and NOOOOOOOTBAAR! Ohtani had an excellent performance, and to top it off with a 2-run double! Lars NOOOOOOOTBAAR with an excellent catch and some great at bats! It's so cool to see him gain popularity amongst Team Japan and the Japanese public! Grind the Pepper!

@Rowbare it's unbelievably unpopular here in China😭 all my baseball knowledge and interest comes from Japanese animes...i think this is because there's scarcely any baseball stadiums and any baseball course from primary school to colleges....

actually I don’t think baseball isn’t popular just because it’s western sport😂. By comparison there are much larger populations watching basketball, football or even Formula 1.maybe more people can be attracted if someone enters MLB, like Yao Ming in NBA

No, He is not Korean. It's a Korean notorious bad habit to claim every Japanese person/thing they envy as Korean out of an inferior complex. They are blatantly racist especially when it comes to Japan, too. They brainwash the people from a young age that the Japanese are inferior to Koreans in every possible way and seriously believe so many weird made-up stories like that.
Here's an example statement made by a professional wrestler who is a naturalized Japanese from Korea:
"Akira Maeda was taught by his Korean grandmother, who was a typical nationalist and a Korean peninsula supremacist, that the Japanese people who appear on TV and in the newspapers were actually "zainichi(Koreans residing in Japan)" and "former Koreans." When she gathered with her compatriots, she would tell those around her the same thing about well-known and outstanding Japanese people. As time went on, he dismiss her claims, but there was a time when he believed them. "
He also confessed on another TV program that she told him if you saw talented people, they were all Koreans, and even once told Carl Lewis was Korean.

The fact that it wasn’t a blow out is really impressive for team China
Japan was otherworldly, but there's a chance for some serious growth in Chinese baseball. They were very impressive and the score would've reflected that better if not for the late inning collapse. Kudos to them!

Saw a couple of things in Team China from today's game:
- Great passion and love of Baseball
- Huge respect to Team Japan which is one of the potential champions of WBC 2023, and confidence to challenge them
- Learning ability to quickly learn from Coach Dean, and those on the team who played in NPB, Big League and Small League
MLB especially MLB China Academy has done a great job. Once again, good luck to Team Japan and the Japanese super stars in WBC. Their impact on young Asian baseball players is enormous.
Many of them also played in independent professional in the US for 2 years. Helped get them adjusted to higher level

Great game by both. Not surprised by the outcome but team China has made some improvement. People don’t realize that a lot of these players now have pro experience in the US. Many of them played independent pro in the US for 2 years so they’re somewhat used to higher level.

oh my god. i never watched the wbc before, but i feel like this is going to be really fun this year...
I think China was tremendous team, too. Actually, our team was strong, but they never gave up to the game and being gentle.
Next time, they might come back as a better team. I’m looking forward to watching the next game.
I've watched a bunch of these WBC highlights, and, in the Japan games, I have been very impressed overall with the umpiring.

It was an amazing game to watch Ohtani, Tatsuji and other Japanese top base ball players’ performance. Japanese batters seemed to be suffering from Chinese pitchers’ very slow ball ( less than 140km/h), but gradually adjusted and won!! And more than anything, Tatsuji’s fine play was so wonderful to save Ohtani from hit! Gatfe(Samurai Japan’s team manager, Hideki Kuriyama’s other name)must be glad to see such plays!!

I really enjoy watching the Koshien tournament for high-schoolers. It's a sacred thing and I love the respect he always shows for the sport and field.

8BB 2H in first 3 inning and almost have to face bases loaded every time,was so unimaginable nervous when watching this game as a Chinese baseball fan and ametauer player.Sho only used his fastball and slider,great marketing work let him pitch the first game even againt us.And thanks to it the memory will never be forget
