    Hi there! Great review as always! Can I ask, next time, don't go from 1.8 to 2.8 on the sharpness test. Imagine if the lens gets a lot better at f2 or even f2.2, it would be clearly better than a 50f2.8 this way, it is really difficult to add value to a lens, has there a many lens with this focal that are excellent at 2.8, even zoom lens. It's a very good lens, easily beats my Samyang 45 f1.8, which just doesn't shine whatever I do with it, still, would not be my first choice 😅

    • @Kabab
      @Kabab Před 2 měsíci +3

      I just got this lens and it's razer sharp at f2.2. It's sublime to shoot with. I agree with your sentiment, the author should test f2 and f2.2. The value of this lens is its F2-2.2 performance

      hi, there's DEFINITELY something amis with your Samyang 45mm lens. This is one of the supreme models, has excellent optics and very good colours/skin tones for Portraits too. Please get yours fixed !!!!!

    Is there hope for a Meike 50mm 1.8 AF review also? It's another extremely cheap lens (like 150-160 USD) but I've seen only two reviews for now, so I'd love some more opinions about it.

  • @qingyunwang3802

    Here in China a new copy costs only 145 dollars which is basically a steal, and gives the much more expensive FE 55/1.8 ZA a really good run for the money.

    If it wouldn't say 7Artisan, I'd say this is a Viltrox lens. Reminds me so much of the Viltrox 23mm f1.4.
    It seems to me that this lens here finds its optimal fit on ff sensors up to 33MP.

  • @Kabab
    @Kabab Před dnem

    Do you happen to know where to get firmware updates for this lens? The 7artisans site doesn't even reference firmware but the marketing materials does talk about it.
    I've had this lens for a while now. Beautiful pictures and autofocus is fine but in some lighting conditions the camera can't seem to figure out it's light processing and it can't take the picture. This seems to be a lens issue.

  • @swistedfilms

    Just came back to this after watching the review of the nikon version and there is definitely more fringing in this version of the lens. I think if i used this lens i would just never go below 2.8. or i would just clean it up in post if i absolutely had to go lower than that but i can't see any reason to do that unless i'm shooting landscapes at night or doing astrophotography. But in that case i would be using a wide angle lens anyway. I think this is a good lens for everyday shooting

    Good price. Personally I don't like 50mm. It's just not interesting enough a focal length. 105mm and above is more my thing. If they can compete with 135mm 1.8S I'd be interested. These smaller companies need to challange the big canera brands. Forces their prices down. Look at sony.

    What I don't like about this lens design is the lack of detent or click stop for the "A" setting in the aperture ring. The same goes for the AF/MF switch. It could get, easily, dislodged by a finger. 🙄

  • @ritrattoaziendale
    @ritrattoaziendale Před 4 měsíci +5

    Aps performance is pretty bad wide open, way worse then you describe by voice. On FF would be interesting to see if the purple fringing in the centre will disappear at f2 already, or we need to wait up to f2.8
    Personally I never use f1.8 lenses wide open, but I treat them as f2 just to give them a slight kick; would be interesting if you could do a f2 test of f1.8 lenses when you review them, to show how much a small sacrifice of a mere third of a stop could (or couldn't) improve a lens.

    • @JohnDoe-xm1ir
      @JohnDoe-xm1ir Před 4 měsíci

      Agreed. I don't know if it's just my copy of the Canon EF 50mm f1.4 but moving it up just to f1.6 shows a considerable upgrade in quality (Not stellar, but it's a tiny sacrifice in aperture for a fairly significant boost in IQ).

  • @MattTrevett
    @MattTrevett Před 4 měsíci

    In most videos you talk about how declicked aperture rings are good for video - can you explain how this is the case? I don't understand the use case for declickable aperture rings in video.

    • @CrimzonRX
      @CrimzonRX Před 4 měsíci +1

      There are certain types of shots where you adjust the aperature while executing your shot to go from a shallow to deep DOF in order to convey a narrative element, as well as smoothly adjusting your exposure and having finer adjustment during a shot or just hitting that exact perfect aperature for how you want to expose

    • @MattTrevett
      @MattTrevett Před 4 měsíci

      @@CrimzonRX I see your point, but don't think any mirrorless can adjust exposure quickly enough to show that change without affecting brightness..

    • @CrimzonRX
      @CrimzonRX Před 4 měsíci +1

      talking about professional film sets here, you can easily do that via manual control or by having all your lights rigged to a master control and raising them equally. we use this in cinema not frequently but enough. another example you be to smoothly but rapidly adjust your exposure when going from indoors to outdoors@@MattTrevett

      I just got this lens and it's wicked sharp at f2.2 with little to no noticeable color fringe on the bokeh in most situations. This video undersells it a fair bit. It's actually way closer in quality to the Zeiss 55mm than it is the 50mm FE. It's a very good lens at only a ~$25 premium over the 50mm FE which lacks sharpness everywhere at all settings
