  • Video by Joe Purvis, member of the Louisville Area Soaring Society flying at the LASS Charlie Vettiner Park Flying Site (the only dedicated/permitted rc sailplane specific Public Park flying site in all of Kentucky!)
Ed Wilson LSF5, VP LSF and President of the LASS throwing the model at the winch.
This model is a LOT of years old, built by master craftsman, Ed White of the Orlando Buzzards RC Soaring Club, designed by Dean Clark of California. (Its name came from the Star Trek Episode where the Voyger satelite has become sentient and its side has lost a letter.) Pilot Gordy, radio system, JR11x TX, 2.4 DSM2.
The model launches like its on rails, its 16' size is not a problem for the winch and no extra piloting effort is needed to help it stay stable and straight during the launch. The wings are plenty strong but prudence and respect for the model's age is worth considering when towing it up the line. The launch is about 400', the model flew its first flight in my hands for about 20mins. Landings are slow and controlled. Controls are Rudder, Elevator and landing flaps. No it doesn't have motor or propeller:-)
This model was used by Gordon Buckland of the Orlando Buzzards to complete his LSF5 10K Goal and Return Flight, here's a link to his video of that flight.

I'm going to have to do a new HD video this coming season, it deserves a better video :-)

February 2017, I converted the Vyger to electric launch, that means a motor in the nose to get it to altitude then turned off and kept off. My friend and clubmate Ken caught it on video, so check out this link, make sure you view it in HD.
