What I wouldn't give for a RC lawnmower like yours here in Texas where the last thing I want to do is mow the lawn in 100+ degree heat in the summer. Very inspiring! If I only had the time to construct something like this!
he may be lazy to u but if he patent this thing, you'll be the first customer in line to buy it when he produce this and sell it on the market. great machine man.
Very cool. I like how just a short time ago it would have taken teams of engineers to accomplish what we can turn out from our modern garages. Just imagine what we will have next.
step1: get a lawn chair step2: put lawn chair on driveway step3:get a cold beer step4:sit down on lawn chair with beer step5:mow lawn while you amaze your neighbors with awsomeness
If you could do more with the remote control, it could be more automatic. If there was a video camera or webcam on the house to track where the mower was, it could be connected to a computer program that would make some fairly smart plans on where the mower should go. It could mow every part of the lawn that way. As long as no kids get on the property, it could probably be safe enough to leave unattended.
Awesome machine you should put an elec start on it and a camera so you can sit in the living room and mow from the comfort of the couch and mow while you watch TV well you would see what the mower cam sees
It handles surprisingly well. The only time it gets stuck is when the mower height is set too low. The beauty is if it does get stuck, you just reverse or turn away (as you can see it turns very sharply). Thanks for all the comments! TC
you know I think this is a great idea. I hate mowing for an hour in the texas heat, sweating my ass off just to do it again in a week. sitting in the shade mowing with a transmitter instead is much better...besides the kids would love to mow now...necessity is the mother of invention and 80% of the things we use every day further enhance our "laziness". I say if it makes life a little easier, then why not.
Very cool - as an electronics *and* lawnmower geek I like what you've done. I must say it sounds like the engine needs tuning a bit - perhaps the mixture is a bit on the lean side?
just need an algorithm to wok out the shortest distance to cut your lawn and a sat nav to do the xy axis also a google sat picture ...battery powered might be better then it want wake me up while I am in the hammock ...we all need one the man's a genius ...
Alright man, thanks for the frank assessment. I'll have to come back and let you know if it worked. Seriously, I'm beginning to get obsessed with this thing ever since I saw your video. Gotta have me one of these! :)
In all honesty, I'd go with the OSMC. The wheelchair controller is too fiddly to get right. Ver 2 probably won't get done but I'm slowly refining Ver 1 into something workable. Thanks, TC
its rear driven so if u only switch one of the rear wheels on it will turn in that direction eg if u turn the left rear wheel on then the mower will turn left
Wow, it's the real life "Maximum Overdrive"! It's even a zero turn. Too cool! Geez dude, could you get your exposed foot any closer to the deck while the BLADE IS SPINNING????? Tonight's local news, man chops toes off while mowing grass with a remote controlled mower.......
I feel inspired, I'm building myself one. I found this about three weeks ago and I found me a deal on an old electric wheelchair frame and motors. I'm debating whether to follow your instructions or learn more about OSMC and using that. When will you be done with version 2?
hey, as to that last sarcastic and insensitive comment, it looks like he could just bolt on whatever he wants... kinda looks like the basic design is a bolt-on mower under a moving R/C frame. Interesting take on the basic R/C mower concept, nice work there.
I have built one also, I would like to use the simple version of the electronics from you page, because the mechanical version I built does not give me full range of the joystick, do you have any printed circuit boards available?
i love how people just comment stupid shit.. shit like lazy.. if you put your mind to somthing your going to accomplish it no matter what it takes.. he prolly had a dream and the parts and decided to do it to accompilish something he had on his mind..
Guys this and the website are mostly food for thought to making your own. You NEED electronic knowledge along with the mechanical know-how. If you don't have both and don't understand the website then this project is not for you.
Still using this after 10 years or did it give up the ghost? First saw this creation back in 2009 while in high school, and been wanting to build one ever since.
Whoever did this is a genius, it should go on sale. although it would need some styling tweaks..

This is great I could see people needing this that are handicap or older. It would also be good for areas like steep hills. Great job.

good work mate, makes mowing the lawn fun for the lazy man
Very cool. I like how just a short time ago it would have taken teams of engineers to accomplish what we can turn out from our modern garages. Just imagine what we will have next.
i could do it in half the time and have twice the satisfaction of a job well done
step1: get a lawn chair
step2: put lawn chair on driveway
step3:get a cold beer
step4:sit down on lawn chair with beer
step5:mow lawn while you amaze your neighbors with awsomeness
I can see some good uses... someone who is wheel-chair bound would love this..

awesome rc lawn mower u should all a swivel camera on top and hook it up to your tv
too cool. Awesome setup. And I thought using a riding mower was lazy. Kudos!

flip the mower upside down and get some armor on that!
AWESOME
THAT'S SO AWESOME !!! LIKE THE WAY YOU THINK BUDDY !!!
That is absolutly AWESOME!!!
thats actually a great idea for steep slopes
now this is pure genius
That's the best suggestion I've had so far! LOL
just need an algorithm to wok out the shortest distance to cut your lawn and a sat nav to do the xy axis also a google sat picture ...battery powered might be better then it want wake me up while I am in the hammock ...we all need one the man's a genius ...
MANS DREAM MACHINE!
Awesome, now all you need is a decent lawn!
willgods LMAO
haha! i love the hospital wheels on it :d
good job, next will be remote controlled whipper snipper
frickin' awesome. I've wanted to build one for years!
I like that, you could have mounted a battery on the front and made it key start
Easy - the motor doesn't seen to affect it at all. The wheelchair electronics are built tough and I'd be surprised if I had any problems there either.
Awesome! But I bet all the neighborhood cats disappeared during the prototyping stage! :)
nice work mate, should have a rota!
Alright man, thanks for the frank assessment. I'll have to come back and let you know if it worked. Seriously, I'm beginning to get obsessed with this thing ever since I saw your video. Gotta have me one of these! :)
Very cool you should market it when you think you have a stable, reliable platform.
realy cool.you should try doing tricks with it like donuts and burntouts.
man, this is totoally awesome
I am planning on building this, but I will put the drive wheels in the front so as to make it easier to steer around tree, of which I have many.
In all honesty, I'd go with the OSMC. The wheelchair controller is too fiddly to get right. Ver 2 probably won't get done but I'm slowly refining Ver 1 into something workable. Thanks, TC
It's just a cheap hobby 2 channel transmitter and receiver so it has a reasonable range. It could be extended with a better radio.
its rear driven so if u only switch one of the rear wheels on it will turn in that direction eg if u turn the left rear wheel on then the mower will turn left
so add a wireless video camera and mow the grass from inside while staying out of the hot sun!
I was looking for this exactly, thanks
This would be perfect for areas with high grass and crapy places were there are bees snakes, ext .
OH now this is way way cool dude!!! love it
you made cutting grass actually fun!
you could sell "bolt on" kits for this..for a specific good value low cost push mower. i'd buy it! that is if it wasn't too expensive. :) good job!
Wow, it's the real life "Maximum Overdrive"! It's even a zero turn. Too cool! Geez dude, could you get your exposed foot any closer to the deck while the BLADE IS SPINNING????? Tonight's local news, man chops toes off while mowing grass with a remote controlled mower.......
old people can mow there lawn now hora
btw good job
thats brilliant!!.. and your website is pretty damn good too man nice work haha
Awesome job!

You sir....are brilliant.
Forgot to ask. How did you get around the motor vibration interfereing with the radio transmissions to the reciever?
@austinscott01 That is what I did and it also helps to see where you are cutting when it is far away from you
easily said ,the neighbor's dog wont be taking a shit on your lawn anymore.
That is soo awesome...I wants one.
That would be great for a 6 acre area... especially since all we have is a push mower xD
If the mixture's not set correctly they have a tendency to 'hunt'.
Next project - electronic closed-loop control of the engine :-)
GREAT job!!!
that sounds powerful what Hp is the mower?
what did you do today?well i sat in my lawnchair drank beer and mowed the lawn lol
@djrickyj the idea is not crappy it´s cool!!! Hope you can make something better
Briggs and Stratton waould be proud
thats awesome i would love to have one of these nice job :D
No wonder you built a RC mower .. cause you wear Sandles . Nice invention .. I feel like watchin " honey I shrunk the kids " for some reason !
this is sooo cool i would hav never thought of that u r an insperation lol
and you just built a bomb squad robot of sorts for that mine field LOL
Actually it would stop and do nothing until the signal returned. It has a fail-safe built in

this is what happens when you don't want to get hit in the foot by something some one or something has left in you're yard
how did you do the steering system? please tell me
Next make a robot to go fetch you a beer and you're set.
your the man!
If it was easy, everyone would have one ;-)
that's great. great website, also.
i love how people just comment stupid shit.. shit like lazy.. if you put your mind to somthing your going to accomplish it no matter what it takes.. he prolly had a dream and the parts and decided to do it to accompilish something he had on his mind..
Great job
With electric mowers now it should be interesting. You could modify a trimmer mower for this.. Should be safer with no metal blades.
@solarsynapse - it's in the description right below the vid
y not attatch a altanator or motor on the top or belted so power will sent to the reciver and motors so no heavy batterys and will cut quicker
AWESOME!

Thanks for the comments! To answer all of your questions, go to my website (link is just to the right of the vid - click the -more- link) Cheers! TC
motors from a power chair?? nice it would go threw anything!
The website does not work. Plans cannot be downloaded.
Anywhere else to download please.
Pretty damn sweet, I wish I had one >
Good job
i have a briggis key start but the carb needs to be primed maybe same engine different carb and your set
What is the range on the control?
awesome
How did u make the engine remote-controlled like that? I would love to know, cause i have a project which could use an r/c engine.
uh, nice lawn... how about cutting an open green space where we can really see it in action??
So True
all those engens have a fixed jet in em carb is probily dirty take it off and clean it good
How does the remote work?
cool do you use other motor or just one motor
Still using this after 10 years or did it give up the ghost? First saw this creation back in 2009 while in high school, and been wanting to build one ever since.
when does the beer come in?
wow nise job!!
