    As an American I am humbled that a teacher who might be an American immigrant or a proficient English speaker from another country but definitely not a native American speaker is teaching a class of non native english speaking kids a lesson about the American holiday Thanksgiving. Only in a top private school or at a University level language class would American students be exposed to another culture this way. Man do Americans understand how much American culture is the center of the world universe?....At least for now.

    • @edtechii
      @edtechii  Před 4 lety +4

      Hello Alex, thanks for taking your time to leave such an interesting comment. Indeed, American culture has a profound impact on learners of English as a foreign language worldwide. You cannot deny it - English is a global lingo franca, and as students around the world learn English as a foreign language, they inevitably learn American realia, culture, and even some dispositions. Once again, thank you for your interesting comment.

    Sorry for the questions and thank you for sharing this kind of content😊

    • @edtechii
      @edtechii  Před 2 lety +2

      Hello Marvin, and thanks for your feedback.
      Re. Classroom Rules:
      Rules and procedures are the cornerstones of classroom management. The general rule of thumb for devising effective classroom rules is to keep them short and simple. An example for grade 3 ESL class may be:
      1. Speak English
      2. Raise your hand
      3. Do your best
      4. Listen and look
      5. Clean up
      Re. Misbehaviours:
      I am happy you asked this question because the classroom rules are meaningless without reinforcement/rewards/consequences. I used token economy to gamify the learning and incentivize students to follow the rules. If you do not know what token economy is, look it up and then ask clarifying questions. I will provide more specifics and resources if needed.

      Hello Fatima, thanks for your question.
      -
      Question #1:
      ICQ stands for Instructions Checking Questions. These are questions you ask students after you set the instructions to see how well students understood the instructions. For example,
      Teacher: "In this activity you are going to hear two people, Tom and Cathy, having a chat in an elevator. After the recording is over, turn to your shoulder partner and discuss what concerns Tom has about his new job?"
      Teacher's ICQ #1: "How many people are you going to hear in the recording?"
      Student1: "Two".
      Teacher's ICQ #2: "Good, and what do you need to to do once the recording is over?"
      Student1: "Discus what I heard with the neighbor?"
      Teacher: "Can anyone help Student1, please?"
      Student2: "We are to discuss with our shoulder partner what concerns Tom about his new job."
      Teacher: "Thank you! Let's now listen to the recording."
      ---
      Question #2
      While you should always have the end of your lesson planned in advance, the actual way you wrap up your lesson depends on what happens during the lesson. If by means of formative assessment you see that reteaching is necessary, then reiterate the concept taught. If you want to simply assess how well your students comprehended the content of the lesson (formative assessment) then exit ticket will be a reasonable action to do. I personally prefer to summarize the work they have done and how this work helps them meet the lesson objective.
      I hope this helps.
