Inaugural Kenya Airways direct flight from Nairobi lands in New York

- The Boeing787-8 Dreamliner carrying 234 passengers left the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 11:20 pm on Sunday after being flagged off by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Jeff Koinange was part of that historic 15-hour nonstop journey, and documented the following report.

It's Kenya's time! but also I notice that on the return trip you'll pass over eastern Canada, likely talking with ATC un Montreal (where I live) and Moncton NB, as well as St. John's NF. Further north you will talk to perhaps Goose Bay or Gander NF before getting into one of the Atlantic corridors.
I am not a pilot but a retired electronic technician (age 74) with added electrical qualifications.
Hopefully these flights will also facilitate what Kenya and many African nations need to stabilise their power grids. And if they need Aluminum, I could imagine you flying that back from Ancienne Lorette QC, as Sept Isles airport would like y be too small, and likely the same for anything close enough to Arvida.
(My father, in his time worked 27 years for Alcan, so I "inherited" a certain familiarity with it. )
Montreal is about 450 miles straight North of NYC, but we are almost 1000 miles inland from the coast due to the shape oif the continent.
Game changer indeed. Very pleased about this leap of development from my country. God bless Kenya.

Awesome, very happy for Kenya Airlines, Kenya and the African Continent, I once flew from Schiphol Amsterdam to Nairobi on Kenya Airlines, it was very comfortable and very pleasant. I believe Nairobi airport is also rated as a difficult airport to land on, its above sea level and on a slight inclination, only one way in, no abort mission. Also I was impressed all those years ago knowing that Kenya airlines was part of Start Alliance, great partnership. Well done to all involved.

KLM/delta airline still my way. most people don't know but most of us in US are not able to connect to newyork and still get a better price especially for some of us in northwest usa or westcoast. kq must work with other airlines to create a connection opportunities otherwise going through europe or middle east remains the only chance for many many kenyans.
Kenya Airways is part of the same alliance as KLM, Air France and Delta and is already having various codeshare agreements with them. Meaning, despite your location in the US, based on the best routing options, KLM, Delta and AF can and will route you through NYC to connect with KQ.

Chewing gum is your best friend while flying. The pressure in the cabin is very high and say if you have a cold, your membranes will be inflated with liquids hence getting that (blocked ear with sharp excruciating pain), Big G help alleviate that!
