My grandmother lived across the road from the barbers shop at no 82, next door to what was Dawkins florists. Up the road was a few small shops including a butchers shop. Just down the road was Smiths pot shop and across the road was a small sweet shop called Candy Cabin.

And before Quarry Road, it was Starr Lane until the 1870s. Starting from Pilkington's Yard and Market Place in the 1871 census. Maybe it went down to the Starr Inn originally, which was where Boots is now, just down from the bus station. My favourite name is Cabbage Alley, which was renamed Holborn Place.

Thanks for that - I didn't know about Cabbage Alley. I wasn't sure when it changed from Starr Lane to Quarry Road, but I reckon the name stuck around until the 1950's
