I love this video, everytime I get insomnia at night I always watch this and it always put me to sleep. Great video highly recommended.
you almost lost me at the sirens, but i'm still watching
Lol I guessed it would kick some ppl off the video 😂
Underrated comment.
Very interesting indeed thank you for showing
Thanks for your videos. Discovering you has allowed me to make a way more informed purchase for my first automatic.
Thanks. I will buy a timegrapher immediately.
This is not boring. Nice sharing bro.
At 6:22 in this vid you are getting exactly what I get with my Alpinist 6R35 if left on the wrist all day and even when sleeping - absolute perfection over 10 days of manual measurement, fluctuating either way daily by a couple of seconds, but arriving back to an overall ten day average of zero seconds per day. If I lay it face up overnight it drops to plus 6 or 7 seconds daily, which I am still happy with.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this important video. Now I know that when I send my watches in for service and regulation, I must tell the watchmaker that I wear my watch on my RIGHT wrist. That way he will focus on the CROWN UP position, vice the crown down with left wrist wearers. That is if he even has a timegrapher.
thanks a lot for this valuable contribution!
You're very welcome!
My 6R35, which is inside a year-old, $1200 Seiko diver, had such outstandingly poor spd and amp, I sent it back to Seiko's authorized repair centre for regulation while still under warranty. Losing close to a minute a day in a watch that's been well-care-for is completely off the charts. In years of wearing Swiss ETA or Sellita movements, even older ones, I've never experienced anything remotely as poor performance-wise as the 6R35 both on my Timegrapher and my wrist. For those with excellent 6R35 stats, that's great..you're lucky. But from what I'm now reading about Seiko movements and the discouraging volume of complaints about their lack of reliability and sub-par performance, which accords fully with my own experience, I'd be very reluctant to consider another Seiko purchase. While I certainly didn't expect COSC standards, I fault myself in that Seiko's published performance specs for 6R35 of -10/+25 spd should have been my first clue.
Yes these movements are based off a 70's ebauche seiko design, that had a sole purpose to be mass produced and economical. If you are used to swiss and want a Seiko the 6L which is more like a 2892 in terms of performance, quality, and engineering.
My SPB147 drops about 35 sek/24 and that is realy bad, so now I´m hasetating bying another Seiko even though i want an SRQ047 with the 8R48 movement..
What amazing movement on Steinhart watches
My white Alpinist was all over the place when I bought it, it went -90 seconds per day in some positions, to +50 at others and sometimes it changed from minus to plus while being in one position only. I tried to regulate it, it was difficult as the leaver was not very precise so it took two weeks to get some results, then I let it go and forgot about it.
After a month or so I checked again and it was at 0 seconds per week literally, then someone told me the movements should break in like shoes. This was still hard to believe, but now after 6 months it still runs few seconds per day although I pushed down my OCD and stopped checking it.
Not sure what to think, subjectively all my Orients were much easier to regulate and those oscillations are not as pronounced.
This is not boring at all! Anyone else don’t find this boring? :)
Good Review..Congratulations 👍🏼
Glad you liked it
My New alpinist 5 weeks goes +4sec, I am very satisfied!
sweet
Was fun. Will buy a timegrapher to have fun with my seiko, orient and eterna-matic movements.
thanks!
Crown up will affect those people who wear the watch on the right wrist.
I check it like you do in a real world application. Every day, 3 days and 7 day intervals. My 7s36 out the box on 7 days is 15 seconds dividend by 7 is 2.14 second per day slow. Haven't broke the seal open yet for that 🤷yes atomic clock too (NIST)
Good video 👍🇬🇧
very useful
Very interesting info. I have no ideas how to use a timegrapher , need to invest one.
Glad it was helpful! check my links below when your ready to buy please and thank you!
I admire the ETAs and Sellitas, always consistent on the timegrapher with a good amplitude and very less positional variation. All my Seikos on the other hand are always all over the place but the beauty of the dial and cases cannot be compared. My Longines Hydroconquest beats my 114060 hands down in both amplitude and positional accuracy, and the worst part is that I cannot regulate the Submariner myself.
yes so true! the etas are amazing. but you can get lucky. my blue lagoon skx mod has 0s/day and 4 positions off by 1-4seconds max. Very impressive and almost 1 year old today.
@@EscapementWatch the + and - per day is need to compensate the rate of your watch. So you have to wear it at least 8 hour per day, so the accuracy will be better
I have squale onda with eta and presage with 6r35. Accuracy wise both run at plus 10secs per day. But i find the 6r superior to eta bcoz when i pull the crown, the hour hand on the seiko is moving perfectly while on the eta it feels cheap and doesnt move proper
I have the same alpinist 2020 with the a strap code super oyster and absolutely love it.
Not too concerned about the movement, I rotate my watches and the power reserve dies so I need to reset the date and time weekly.
🏴⚫⚪
I'm at +4s per day on average with a 4r37 movement (their 2018/2020presage cocktail line) , never touched or service the watch, been 3 years. Just that 40h only power reserve is pretty cheap from their part tbh ✌️
I'm curious to see how the 4r35 compares to the 6r15 could you please try that ?
All my SEIKO's reside in a junk drawer +15 sec a day.I bought my Stienhart when they came 2824 only runs +2 per day.
Steinhart has always been awesome, one of my regrets was to sell my Steinhart Ocean One 39 ceramic. Unluckily i bought Alpinist with 6r35a, running 22 seconds slow, one year old watch but very bad timekeeping.
You can send your junk drawer seiko’s 👍🏻
Ini bisa dikalibrasi secar manual, seiko 4R35 seleisih +- 3 second a week
+5s Faceup should be fine, while except Face down, all other positions will usually run slower. So not a proper adjustment to set it +0s face up
That's crazy, I have a timegrapher and I've my measured my 3 year old SPB143 with 6R35 go from -23 seconds a day to +18 seconds a day on the timegrapher just based on position, and the amplitude is high 190s to low 200s, with beat error from 0.2ms to 9ms. WILD variances.
Sweet watches .
My Seagull watch has the Triovis positional variation compensation system and Swiss movements use the Etachron system. What system does Seiko use.
My 4 year old Seiko 4r39a is all over the place.
My Sea-gull flying wheel retrograde day date is accurate to within a second a day
Seiko uses the Etachron regulation in these movements *6R and 4R* shown today.with Diashock shock absorption.
I own a alpinist 6r35 -Blue down European edition.
Where did you get the beautiful bracelet on the white Alpinist? I would love that bracelet, versus the leather strap they now come with. Very helpful video. Thank you.
its from a Parnis gmt 20mm
You're pretty funny! x) Is that the strapcode bracelet? The buckle is different though.
thanks lol! Its a Parnis Bracelet with the Parnis logo sanded off the clasp! Thanks for watching!
Nice Channel, thank you! Will follow you. One question, what ist the name of the Seiko with the 6R35 movement? I like it!
Found it, it is the Alpinist SPB119J1
Yes or sbdc089 two names. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for the video. Any idea where I can get that white alpinist with the steel bracelet like that? Doesn't seem to be many options when I google it. All have the leather strap.
We're from the bracelet on the new alpenist?
New subscriber here, really good channel u have here! Do u believe there is a break in period on these 6r15 movement?
Yes at least 1 month of continuous use! Thanks for Subbing!
Can someone explain to me why it is that my 6R35 equipped Willard consistently loses about 10 seconds per 24 hours at weekends and holidays when I'm not working, but at all other times when I'm at work it goes to +2 and sometimes zero. I do have quite a manually intensive job where I'm on the go all the time but why would that make such a dramatic difference.
Each position of your watch will give different results. So the positional accuracy is weak in your watch's case. You're going to have to figure out when you're doing your job. Is the watch pointed 12 down most of the time? Maybe when you store your watch place it 12 facing south and it might maintain the same numbers. Try that out
Update: My demagnetiser arrived today. I managed to knock it down approx 10 sec. We'll see how it goes 👍
Nice one!
what does the angle mean in relation to type of movement(eta or seiko)
Hey! Hello 👋 do you open the watch to regulate yourself or you get those numbers straight away from the box ? Also how much second are you gaining or losing seems the video?
rate is on the far left. "s/d" seconds per day it is off. When I open up a watch I mention it. Otherwise its how it came from Factory.
@@EscapementWatch oh thanks so until now how many second do you gain + or lose - in a day ? As seems the video you have the watch for long time so im curious about as im thinking to buy this watch and im curious about your opinion as i like your videos and i think you have good knowledge about watches. Thank you
Aw man. I keep seeing complaints about the 6r35 movement. I'm looking into a Limited edition Ginza Presage and having second thoughts.. watches should tell the time..
The watch is very nice, but the caliber 6R35 is disappointing
@@toni8555 I'm a silly bastard and assumed both the alpinist and presage had the same movement. Presage has the 4R39 movement and the alpinist has the 6R35. Yeah I keep hearing the 6R35 is erratic. Unfortunate as the dial is just amazing.. can you share any thoughts or experiences with a 4R39 movement? Can't find much info on it.
@@DriftmonkeyI have never owned a Seiko with the 4R39 caliber, but I did also have a Seiko 5 with the 4R36 caliber. I'm not satisfied with Seiko's automatic movements, but at least the Seiko 5 cost 3 times less than the Alpinist, and this puts things in perspective a bit. It depends on how manic you are about precision and how you are going to use the watch. For a watch for daily use, I prefer a watch with an ETA or Sellita caliber.
@@toni8555 Have a Presage Ginza on the way currently. I mean, these days we all have our phones to tell the time, right? My seiko solar keeps time awesome, so does my Samsung Galaxy Note.. but the dial on the ginza editions is worth it to me I guess.
I don't know where you pointed that blower, but you really shouldn't blow air like that directly onto a balance wheel.
what bracelet is that on the alpinist?
A lot of Seiko movements use friction to hold the regulating bar/bridge in place (4r35). Does the 6r35 have a way to adjust and hold the regulation bar/bridge in place?
6r is same as 4r in regards to regulation
@@EscapementWatch Thats too bad it does not have a screw as opposed to that lever held in place by friction. I dropped my Seiko and it went from +5spd to +20 spd. I have no doubt the shock of the drop probably moved that lever ever so slightly. That lever may explain the wide variation in accuracy. Drops during sports, shipping, and rough wear.
I was about to buy an Alpinist, then after reading and hearing all the possible and imaginable criticisms about the unreliability of the 6R35, I backed out. Why can't I buy a watch that mounts a movement that is lucky in its performance.
how i can buy watch band like seiko 6r35 you have? Tks
What is background music ?
whitedial watch model number?
What amplitude got to do with watch movement accuracy etc. ? Please explain.
amplitude is just an indicator of the efficiency of the kinematic drive train of the gears. so strong amplitude means everything working well, don't need a service. when amp is too low or too high it can effect accuracy if the power is not being delivered evenly to the escapement.
I wear my watch dial down. It is easier to check the watch in this position.
Good vid but more importantly is that a strapcode jubilee on the white face Alpinist?
Nope it's a parnis Jubilee with logo sanded off. I have two now. Check out my blue alp video to see more of the bracelet I believe I talk more about it there it was an older vid
@@EscapementWatch Ta
I've noticed my 6R35 movement runs a tad fast approx 18-22 seconds per day dial up. Seiko says thats within tolerance. I say YIKES that seems fast for a new upgraded caliber. Anyway I purchased a demagnetiser. I'm wondering if it got magnetised during shipping going through scan machines. I'll post an update.
yes it is rated at +25/-15s a day. make sure to wind it at least 70 times.
@@arches92 I had to regulate it. Runs approx 15 sec fast (which I'm happy with). I've also heard watches with a higher power power reserve can run faster.
Showing the paper with the timings would make more sense
My old emerald green alpinist with a 6r15 is currently losing 3 mins a day. That's really bad, what could be causing it?
If it is that bad i would consider going for a service.
Still no micro adjustment screw? How are you supposed to adjust it? Just like the old 7s26 and 6r15?
Guess i'll stick with ETA.
I have a video coming up showing exactly how I do it next month! A fun watch!
@@EscapementWatch I remember, years ago, playing with an alpinist trying to adjust it. God damn, I gave it away out of despair. Two times. You can't beat the cheaper Swiss movements with this.
I always see videos talking about amplitude, what does it mean though? Higher better lower bad or so
Higher is better. Means its a strong movement. Power is being transferred from mainspring to balance flawlessly. 300 amp is very strong fresh movement.
@@EscapementWatch thank you for explaining and fast response 👍👍👍
Crown is up when I put the watch down overnight
I have a Broken 6r15C, do you know any Good replacement? I know about ne15 is a drop-in replacement but is it possible to put in a downgrade movement like NH35?
yes you can!. what broke in your 6r15?
@@EscapementWatch its more than 5years old, date function is not working and amplitude is below 200 dial up and doing -2min/d, so not really "Broken". May only need a service but seems like the service is more expensive than replacing the 6r15. Service would cost me $200-300 and the NE15 costs $115 (NH35 $50). My local watch guy takes $30 to replace drop-in movements
the issue with Seiko is "reliability". i regulated a 7s25 and 7s26 to +1 second per day wearing. but the performance wouldn't last more than two weeks.
Yes that could happen but I have had ultra reliable results with some movements keeping the exact same regulated time for over 6 months with very little drift even afterwards. Make sure the watch is fully broken in at least one month of consistent use before regulation and because it's regulated the friction sometimes a small bump or Nick can give it a little bit of a drift. But like all movements the accuracy will change over time more so on the entry level Seiko movements though.
@@EscapementWatch true. "over time lost accuracy for all mechanism things". For Seiko, my experience for 7s grade is 2 weeks, afterwards, i am just not bothered. I have two 7s for 17 years by now. More a jewelry than a time keep device to me. Also, I have been reading "modern" threads, the "good period" for even 8L grade (in marine master), is 6 months; and the SD is just disaster after 2 years. Seiko is clever commercial company, more of a fashion company (changing cases & dials & learn the Limited Edition trick from Omega), than a RnD tech nerd perusing tech perfection at low cost. Already Great commercial success already for the 7s, 4s, now 6s.
Out of the box my Seiko SPB143 6R35A is -7 seconds a day consistently.
How is it after 5 months since you made this comment?
@@kurokamei It's still about 10-12 seconds behind.
Nice to see you using a timegrapher...but useless to compare movements, you will get a bigger variance between two of the same..so a pointless exercise...
Recently purchase sarb035 on eBay. It is currently losing 3 minutes a day when on the winder but only 1 minute a day when on the wrist. Do you think a service would fix it or should I return while still in the window?
What year is it from? I just bought a sarb035 as well from 2015 and it was -45s a day. I serviced it and now it does +1s a day. So you may need a service. How to tell? check that amplitude? lower then 220? Service it. Should have links in description for a timegrapher
@@EscapementWatch thanks so much! It’s a 2017. Good to hear your experience.
5 years is about time for a service. The oils are starting to get tacky.
My SARB035 with 6R15D movement also runs very slow like that while on a winder but on wrist is much better but still slower than all of my 4R35 based movements.
👍 💐 💕
Wow, both are decent movements. I wonder why they get somewhat of a bad reputation.
6r15A, B, C, the first 3 generations had some issues. 6r15d has had less issues. And I assume the new 6r35A will be further improved. We shall see!
@@EscapementWatch AH! That explains it. Most of the hate on these movements were fairly old. I've heard only good things about the 6r35.
because the 6r35 shatters into dust if you don't use flawless technique while regulating it, or so i've heard.
I have never had a NH/4R 35 36 38 ever run more than - 10 +5 and though cheap they are great work horses. My Seiko 6 series are always all over the place.
hi thx for the cool vid
iam a seiko fan can i ask a question
i have a baby alpanist with green dyle with 6r35 movement
when i have it new it run about 3 sec plus a day and never have to wind it when use daily
now after two years of wearing it runs at about 30 sec minus a day is this normal
can you advice please
thank you
this is normal after years of use with this movement it's accuracy changes. A quick regulation will get it back into spec.
Thank you for reply i appreciate it
I think i am not going to service it jet
Have a nice day
but anoob question. How you regulate the movement ? I see that this is only to measure the rate.
check my how I regulate video for more live demonstration.
If you wear your watch on the other wrist ( as some left handers do) you'll have reversed positions 😁😁😁
hahahah
I have a spb147 with 6r35 movement and it is loosing about 1m/day what do you think the problem is? It is only 1.5 years old.
You have to put it on the timegraph to check out the health. Could just need a regulation.
@@EscapementWatch ok thx i will have to give it to a shop to check it since i dont have equipment
Which bracelet is on that spb119. I am looking for a time for this one.
Parnis jubilee off ebay
Long island watch is a good source of J style bracelets.
Could a person drop a spring drive into the new alpinist?
@@darkcggaming Maybe. But spring drives can be purchased used. They work great for decades!
@@darkcggaming Please recheck the current year you are in.

A CZcams commentator once said his experience with Seiko movements is very hit and miss. Not reliable regarding out of the box performance, not dependable regarding constant performance. I'm tending to agree. To me your results were really bad. Minus 24 seconds for the new movement, going from plus 6. The thing that saves the movement is the fact the watch is always moving on the wrist. Poor really especially when you think how much the watches cost
Yes they usual need regulation in the 2 main positions
An excellent video and very helpful. One thing i have found from regulating my watches is that it is incredibly difficult to do so this makes it less challenging.
I see they have improved movements, but are the newer models worth the asking price? Especially considering you could get the original alpinist for around 600 CAD?
Now they have come out with SPB155, 157 and 159 which I hear are gonna cost around 1100 CAD!! (a reduced 38mm). Buying a Seiko is becoming more and more perplexing. But damn I love the brand
Its a tough question. time will tell if its worth it to you or not.
Perhaps your machine needs to be calibrated?
"When is your crown up?" Believe it or not but not everybody is right-handed. For some of us, the crown is up MOST of the time :o)
So basically it's shit to wear on your right wrist? EDIT: the 6R35 that is?
I hate sirens
My grand seiko with the 9S85 movement came back from service running at +5 to +12 sec a day 🤬. I am so pissed how crappy their service is under warranty.
You can tell the ETA from the Sellita by the jewel number.
When talking results at 13.20 you were swallowing as if you dont mean what you say. How is -24 and + 4. Better than the old alpine watch where you read -13 and +6. The ranges are smaller and your experience with 0 seconds off on your wrist. So how you mean, the 6r35 has improved? And amplitude sounds very interesting but its worthless as the time wise results were worse? I think i dont quite understand man. Is the 6r35 now better in accuracy on your wrist or? Your test result expressions are influenced to make 6r35 sound better as it is to just promote sales.
You must be payed by seiko 😃. But good info and stats here. Stay honest dude 😂 wonderfull watches anyway
Both have garbage numbers... I like Seiko, I want to love Seiko but as long as these don't improve I stick to ETA based movements like the L888's of Longines.
It's Seiko, don't expect much for accuracy...
Don't forget if you're left-handed, the 3 down becomes 3 up!
No good movement always seiko
Seiko movements are so weak. So positioning sensible. A ETA is better if you regulate it. My ETA and Selittas run 1-2 in three days. Thats normal. The times a Seiko was about 450 Euro, was more realitistic compare to their performance. I don't see me to pay 1.000 Euros for one of their watches with this crap. And why the hell should somebody care about a 70 hour power reserve, it is useless. 38-45 are more than enough for a daily wearer.
I love Japanese quartz watches, but the automatics are shit. Only Grand Seiko is any good.
You do realize that with the green paper you are blocking the device microphone, right? So your measurements are really meaningless.
Seiko is famous for being very bad
