  • Dziesmusvētku Koru kari - Fināls - 2023-07-01
    Diriģents: Tālivaldis Gulbis
    Komponists, Pēteris Plakidis (1947 - 2017). Teksta autors, Imants Ziedonis (1933 - 2013).
Pēteris Plakidis, born on March 4, 1947, in Riga, Latvia, was a celebrated composer and pianist. He studied at the Emīls Dārziņš College of Music and later at the Jāzeps Vītols State Conservatory, now known as the Latvian Academy of Music. Plakidis was recognized for his contribution to Latvian music, receiving numerous awards including the Honoured Artist in 1982 and the People's Artist in 1990. His works, often featured in the repertoire of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, are known for their emotional depth and complexity.
Imants Ziedonis, born on May 3, 1933, was a distinguished Latvian poet, writer, and public figure. He gained fame during the Soviet era in Latvia and was known for his unique poetic style that often intertwined with Latvian folklore and national identity. His contributions to literature and culture were immense, with his works ranging from poetry and children's books to screenplays for films. Ziedonis was a vital figure during the perestroika period and played a significant role in the Latvian Cultural Fund. He was awarded the Order of the Three Stars, Latvia's highest honor, in 1995.
The collaboration between Plakidis and Ziedonis in "Svečturi" represents a fusion of musical and poetic artistry, symbolizing the richness of Latvian culture. Plakidis' compositions, coupled with Ziedonis' profound and evocative lyrics, create a piece that is not only musically captivating but also deeply reflective of the Latvian spirit and its enduring quest for freedom and self-expression. This work is a testament to their individual talents and their ability to capture the essence of Latvian identity and ethos through the arts.
