The burgundy finish will eventually spider and it looks great as long as the paint doesn't start chipping off. The clear lacquer was fatally flawed and was used on the dials of many high end watches. These watches do tend to be slightly more valuable. It seems that collectors, who buy the majority of these vintage watches, want originality and I can understand that.
Only IWC, Patek & omega etc do a full restoration in house unlike Cartier, I mean our world is progressing and eventually it's nicer to have a restored dial for original experience.
With certain watches Cartier will actually have the dial restored!
