    If you put the cuttings in water in a clear glass or plastic container and then put the container on a sunny windowsill, the cuttings will grow roots. Each rooted cutting could then be planted, giving you more basil plants throughout your growing season.

    I'd like to see a video of taking care of our garden equipment: clean non rusty scissors, sanitizing those plastic containers plants come in so you can re use them, cleaning minerals and algae and fungi/mold from things like Terra Cotta and watering cans, when hand soap or vinegar is fine and when you should use something stronger like a bleach or isopropyl alcohol solution, etc. I greatly enjoy your videos and have referred back to your channel quite a few times (I have a feeling this will be another such vid), so a Sheffield special on such subjects would be delightful! 🤩 Thanks for your help, keep up the good work! 👍

    If there is enough root mass and the stems are healthy, along with there being some soil space with proper nutrients, the basil plant can indeed come back in full with leaves and even flower if you've done a complete harvest. (Taking all leaves from stem.) I can prove this as well if need be. Plants want to survive, so given proper conditions, these amazing beings will surely surprise you. Awesome video. Otherwise, everything is spot on brother.

    I did that last year and with the pieces I cutted, and put in water to propagate. Basil took over my apartment and I could barely get inside my apartment 😅 I ran out of ideas where to put it when cooking, I started putting basil in everything even tea, I even froze some and gave some to my neighbors. I hope my neighbors are doing alright

    Hi Mr. Sheffield! I'm from Malaysia and I just wanted to say you've successfully turned me into a crazy plant lady in my 20s. 🤣 I used to (accidentally) kill almost every one of my plants, but safe to say your vids educated me enough to spare my babies and now they're flourishing! Seriously thanks a bunch. Keep making them vids and I'll keep binging them as I try not to overwater my plants 🤣

    If the basil plant is getting tall take a harvest and freeze on a tray in the freezer, then bag up when frozen so you can have basil in the winter months too.

    As always very informative video. You do have a green thumb clearly.. I wonder if all this applies to other herbs too. I picked an oregano plant from the garden center this summer. I’ve no clue why it died. Every time I repot something it just dies. I tried to attend to it for a few weeks.. but the leaves all dried up and they smelled incredible but eventually it looked like they all burned down. Sadly I feel most garden centres grow weak plants who can only survive in green houses and when you bring them outside they just die.

  • @nancyziegler5724

    I resolved her error by trimming as you instruct, and i repeated the proper way to harvest the basil. ~~ my rosemary isnt growing tho. WT#? i understand some varieties are slow growers... could you do a vid on rosemary, Mr Richard? im sure im not the only one. (i trimmed it back so it would get fuller, its healthy looking but not growing taller fast enough for me).

    • @KristenK78
      @KristenK78 Před měsícem

      Rosemary as an indoor plant from seed NEVER seems to thrive. Instead of the bushy things I see in pictures, I have perhaps three skinny, spindly stems that never get past 2-3 sets of leaves. If I prune at all to try to encourage new growth, it just stops growing altogether.

    I love watching your videos, what is your take on self watering pots, I've seen an Easy Plant store on line with plants in self watering pots. I thought the soil was supposed to dry out before watering. Worried some plants could get root rot from the soil being constantly moist. What are your thoughts? Have you ever done a blog on this subject?

    😂 I thought everyone harvested by using the cut method.
    You can also root some of those cuttings ( leave a couple leaves on top) and voila, even more Basil.

    So when do you know when to bottom feed plants and when to completely bathe them?

    • @LPMaestro
      @LPMaestro Před měsícem +2

      It's situational. Bottom water in shallow pots/containers like with seedlings are a great practice. Surely lean towards this method if possible to reduce the plant having washing and losing nutrients from soil with top water method. Also, bottom watering significantly reduces risk of moisture/fungus gnats as well as mold that is prone to form on most soil types. I usually top water but not fully drench newly planted or replanted/up planted dry soil. Then from there after soil is mostly dry I then just continue to bottom water to promote downward root growth. There are many other externalities but these are the most crucial in most use cases. Good luck 👍 cheers.
