  • We have recently seen a fish kill wipe out some large Murray Cod in Blowering Dam. First sightings of fish were seen in the video produced by Big Bass Dreams Australia.
Following up on this we decided to do a bit more research. We interviewed DPI Fisheries and local anglers in our recent podcast on these deaths. You can also read more details here: www.socialfishing.com.au/2019...

Do you know how over a million fish died in the Murray recently?

Thanks for the video. Do we know if the dead cod are mostly male/female or are they mixed? Does anyone know how to tell the difference between male and female cod?

I have a feeling that these big cod are relocated cod from dried up rivers that have been moved. It would be a reason why your not seeing a mass fish death rate

After seeing it first hand up the darling I’m really sorry you guys are seeing this up in dams it’s really sad.

G’day mate Mick from Victoria here it’s a tragedy what happened to the cod but if any good could come out of these maybe you should’ve taken off one of the gill plates and age the fish while the opportunity was at hand measure the length of the fish ‘ girth estimated weight what part of the like the fish was found . Such a rare opportunity anyway thanks mate good fishing to you all:

it must localised; It cant be fish aggression.Wyangala and other dams ive never seen any big kills. The only kills ive seen are below dams when the COLD dead water is let out. Your 'turnover' theory could be true OR poisoning? I dont think blackberry brushoff will be strong enough on such a large body of water.

they could all be on the western side of the lake because they float to the top and if there have been consistent Easterly winds that will push them to the west bank

Hey mate the week before they started dying the forest workers sprayed the weeds and then it rained and may have flushed the pOisins in to the water I’m not sure but that may be it.

sucks to see this but i reckon your spot on about your theory!

  • @hugoismymumaustralia1723

Those fish are probably 70 to 120 years old and it is a sad death for them

They still try to breed in dams, the fry just don't survive.I think it's something to do with not having the proper food source in the first few weeks of life.

    • @shanevonharten3100
      @shanevonharten3100 Před 4 lety +1

They most definitely breed in dams. I have a reasonable amount of experience on a fish farm and they breed them in dams

@@shanevonharten3100 yes but they would put the required food and habitat for the cod, our fish require a summer flood.basically which brings loads of phytoplankton and the likes which don't happen in large dams

  • @PoetofHateSpeech

Honestly use your brains, if it was some type of poisoning or water issues other fish would be dying. It's more likely that from fish aggression.
Or do some brainlets think only cod lives in these water bodies? lol
