    Absolutely AWESOME!!! Beautiful scenes and weathering. I even saw a parking lot that was weathered perfectly. Well done and continued success!

    Great tour of the layout…I forgot you had two intermodal yards…and quite the diesel collection…never thought of doing any type of construction scene, road or building…yours are pretty neat…looking forward to seeing your 2024 work

      thanks! road building scenes require a long stretch of sceniced road and i think it just gets skipped because it's not train-centric. but it's a great place to use up some 3D printed models! the diesel collection - i have a problem, i know about it, and it's just something i'll have to live with (opens browser tab to look at ScaleTrains' new releases).

    Thanks for showing us all over the layout with all its variety of operational possibilities and marvellous scenic backdrop. It is truly a great achievement and great to hear that it is set for more breadth in 2024.

      thanks! glad you're enjoying the layout. it's brought me quite a lot of satisfaction, and a lesser volume of aggravation, over the years! but each year, it's fun to see how much has changed.

    Hey enjoyed the tour, I model EK subdivision in the 70's L&N one good thing about that is I can run multiple road names because L&N leased power from anyone that had surplus power. I know what you mean about locos I have about 150 of them. Mostly Kato but there is all manufactures in the stable. I repair locos for friends and hard wire decoders I like to use the barder system rather than money, works well for both of us. Your construction scenes are very cool and gives me plans to do more on mine. Thanks!!

      I don't know what's more addicting building the layout or looking for new pieces to add to the collection. there was a drought maybe a year or two back where nothing new came out and i was cranking away on the scenery and the expansion. now, everyone is releasing sweet locomotives and rolling stock and it adds up quick! especially when we pay no attention to roads or eras :)

    Greetings from a new modeler! Very inspiring layout! I am just starting to research what I want to model beginning with the debate of HO vs N scale. I am taking my time for sure.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  Před 5 měsíci

      Welcome to the hobby! you can't go wrong with either scale, really. i'm partial to N obviously, but there's merits to both. space and track-to-scenery ratios should be considered when making your scale choice. HO is a little pricier, but you can drop a mint in N, too. HO requires more power, so if you're going DCC - you'll need boosters faster than N. just a couple things to consider.

    MTL Plastic wheels here too. Metal wheels are over hype and not the god send that people promised

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  Před 5 měsíci +1

      absolutely hate them. it's bad enough to get a derailment, i don't need a short, too. they don't perform any better than the plastic ones. the only advantage would be if you're in need to add resistors for block detection.

    Well done everything looks very cool. I’m always amazed by the smaller scale layouts, I find myself fumbling with HO, N is just too small for me. 👍🏻

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  Před 5 měsíci

      i worry one day n-scale will become too small to work with - i really do love it. the detail, the amount of track-to-scenery possible. not to mention, i have A LOT of n scale stuff, LOL!

    I have a question, is it possible to add a light to the inside of a N scale passenger train

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  Před 4 měsíci

      absolutely. kato, for instance, makes kits that drop in and their trucks are already equipped with the metal tabs to pick up the power. other manufacturers offer kits or you could build your own using LEDs.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  Před 5 měsíci

      the dump truck, ballast regulator, and Kershaw tie crane are showcase miniatures metal model kits i built and painted. the second tie crane with the cart is a GHQ metal kit, and the tamper behind that is a 3D print from shapeways. the backhoe loader is a 3D print from shapeways, the dozer is also.

    a bit off topic , but on topic in regards to your police prescence in scenic allegheny, i live in florida , how much can we presently trust the police , the onus is on the media to prove it true rather than a critical thinker to prove it wrong, how much can we trust the police when hundreds if not a thousand ( so they say ) show up at a mall in miami to confront a supposed eight to ten foot alien, a couple of thousand people and the only video available is a blurry , yes blurry shot of the outside of the mall with all the police cars lined up so nicely... Thanks for the tour and i look forward to 2024 and your future updates. PS ... get tp while you still can😂

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  Před 5 měsíci +2

      well, in the modeled world where things are what i model them - we have law and order and the police do a very good job of keeping Allegheny's troublesome people at bay. We also don't have any DA's letting them out on the streets after a crime is committed so you can feel very safe walking the streets. But, if you do prefer a quicker response, it's quite easy to apply for a permit to handle protection yourself. I guess i should build a courthouse.
