- In this video I explain my process of creating fantasy races for DND campaigns, novels, and just general stories.
Hope you enjoy.
Had to reupload due to audio issue
if you read this comment "Cook"
remember to like and sub!
Hope you enjoy!
I was about to put this video into full screen when I saw the views and I had to do a double take because I was convinced based on your quality you should have at least another zero on the end of your sub count. Keep up the good work, you got yourself a new sub.
I just noticed to. This video is something you'd see from a massive channel quality wise.
@@SamwiseIWStanthanks dude, for sure could be improved and im not really saying anything of value but i appreciate the words
I remember a video of someone saying fantasy races are immersion breaking because they just feel like humans with extra features. And while I disagree it made me think of a cool setting set in a Bronze Age world and when a meteor hit humans transformed into said fantasy races. Now some guy who was jacked and 6 foot 2 is a tiny goblin and he has to get used to that.
Then I had another one with only humans, but all the fantasy races were like a super saiyan form.
I also don’t know why but I often make orcs basically space marines and they are a result of mages trying to make humans super human.
If youre a good enough story teller nothing is immersion breaking 🤙🏻
imagine being a midget and then some rock crashes in the backyard and suddenly you're a giant!
I'm currently world building. I started at the beginning, by which I mean that humans are in the neolithic right now and dwarves have just been created from dirt. My main hobby is languages, so I'm making proto languages. For humans that develops from grunts and yelps, for the dwarves I'm currently making a language that has a dialect which can be sung in chants propagating through the tunnels. I also scrapped Gnomes and Halflings, because I simply can't find them distinct enough from the outside dwarves who live on the fields, in the woods and in the mines. I think fey are next on the list of creations, but I'll have to hunker down since they're not my cup of tea
Good luck, seems like a LOT of work
sick dude! the world im working on currently is also starting Neolithic!
@@Zero-4793love me some neolithic lore
..Iceland *is* an island, though. And it was so isolated that the Old Norse that was spoken there evolved slower than the Old Norse of Norway, Sweden and Denmark, so the language spoken there today (Icelandic) has much more in common with Old Norse than the other modern Nordic languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish)
Very cool
Very helpful video. I’ll be coming back to this many times while working on my first book.
To my experience, one thing that many Game Masters forget about is that cultures interact with each other.
Also, about religion; it's not necessarily that societies like to worship things. It's that societies like immediate answers to complicated questions.
And power dynamics. Especially power dynamics xD
Very informative and well put, even though I already knew most of this. Earned a sub. I'm now going to go binge the rest of your content.
Thanks man, yeah i for sure couldve explained it better and said some stuff with a bit more value but i just threw this vid together. I shouldve been a bit more in depth
Great video! I'm looking forward to hearing more of what you have to say about the creative process
maybe the deer men have an ancestor corpse cult because the land bridge was forgotten and it morphed into "our ancestors sailed here" and at some point in the mythological history the ancestors became angry and refused to talk to them anymore, and they think that they can eventually appease the ancestors and get them to talk again which will lead to them being told the secret sea-route back to the warm place.
consequently they have some kind of snow bushido because if you annoy the ancestor cult you're forcing everyone to keep living on this crappy island.
Very good video, honestly that aproach can work very well if you want to create a whole new race or just tweak an existing one.
“There's no rules when it comes to world building"
Then why did you put "stop this!" in the thumbnail? I clicked specifically to figure out what do you want me to stop, lol.
@@n0vitski stop over thinking
@@GrailFantasy It's not my position personally, but i definitely met people who would say that thinking about the history and environment of the culture is already overthinking. They would just take elves and dwarves from DnD5e with no changes and went with them. Either way, there's nothing in the video about overthinking, nor in the tumbnail, it kind of just looks like you don't like that particular griffith lookin fella.
Good thumbnail game i guess, after all, i did click it. It's just frustrating that it had nothing to do with the subject.
It was 100% click bait man ill be real with you 😭
@@GrailFantasy Good to know, at least now i know i'm not crazy for thinking that.
The speedrun of the tree branches race remind me of Jinmenju a yōkai tree that it's fruit are human faces that laugh and Vegetable Lamb of Tartary a sheep growing plant.
Oh waaaaaitttooooorrrr, a hundred more of these please!!
Maybe soon
Stop long fabulous hair? NEVER!
woah you kinda used my idea, also the audio is still a little quiet (I have commented this before but I'm gonna assume you reuploaded it to boost the audio)
The audio shouldnt be that quiet, im not sure why it is for you
@@GrailFantasy i might be tripping, but I listen to basically everything neutral audio, my headphones are 50, my computer volume is 50, and this video is still pretty damn quiet
i can't even focus on what you're saying. what is this gameplay?
hunting down some random lady through the snow for no reason after killing her husband or whatever and then fighting wolves literally biting your ankles with a bow and arrow but, with the lowest possible sensitivity so it takes several seconds to line up each shot AND THEN start trickshotting the wolves by doing 360 bow scopes and MISSING SEVERAL TIMES WITH GLACIAL SENSITIVITY
like at this point just throw up some subway surfers or something
Pretty sick gameplay imo
isnt it also generic to create an elven subrace?
I mean, in most cases.
If we speak about subraces, i think human subraces are way more intresting.
When did i say it was generic to create a race?
@@GrailFantasy You didnt. In the first minute of the video that with this video its possible to create an elven race and i was only thinkiung there are already so many of them.
I couldn't actually *watch* this video bc first person games make me motion sick. orz Listening along works fine, but the voicing over jerky, spinny gameplay made my head hurt.
Sorry about that bro
Ayo is that 625 subscribers???? Not 62500? How
Lol, i just started uploading bro give it time 💀
Mary coming down?
This guy is probably the wost skyrim player ever dawg wtf 😂
I was just messing around so i could have background footage for the vid lol
@@GrailFantasy the video was actually interesting its just the footage was funny af 😂
Should try out a note taking tool like Obsidian, rather than discord.
I tried using world anvil, seems like just a bunch of over complicated garbage imo
@@GrailFantasy well obsidian isnt one of those. its a simple local free text based app. It's really just text files, but nicely managed with links and optional plugins. Your own private wiki that lets your creativity flow as easily as possible by not getting in your way with complex UI or systems.
@@Zero-4793pretty interesting
Can vouch for Obsidian. A lot of Obsidian users are obsessed with plugins & customization and so on but that's all optional. I keep all my notes for everything on Obsidian.
@@GrailFantasy As a web developer, World Anvil feels like a lot of individual good ideas, all jammed together with no consideration for making them work as a cohesive whole.
🗿👍
ok
Ok
@@GrailFantasy I needed to make a comment to find my way back to this video because I couldn't watch it at the time.
