Being a white guy, growing up in the Suburbs of Philadelphia it was not 'normal' for me to be listening to NY Latin freestyle music. George Lamond and Brenda K. Star were two of my favorites. Now in my 50's, my music play lists still include these 2 get artists. This was always a favorite song as these two blend their voices together beautifully. Saw Brenda's daughter on American Idol last year ... she has her moms voice and beauty.
I don't know about Philadelphia but in New York, Chicago, Texas, California and Florida it's common to find many White people that love Freestyle because it was always on the radio in those places so it was just regular pop music to them but if you grew up somewhere less Dance Pop and New wave was played then yes it maybe uncommon where you are from but not in other places. Still you made the right choice! It is real and authentic great music by legendary great music artists! Job well done.
This has to be one of the most underrated songs ever. No way should this song not have made the top 40 countdown back in 1991 with the kind of AirPlay it received! Number 49? Crazy! This song was ahead of its time though. If Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias recorded this song in 2000 it would've been in the top 10 guaranteed! Whitney Houston rip and Enrique Iglesias with Can I have this kiss forever made it to 28! Very similar style song.

Everytime I hear freestyle, I think of getting dressed for Halloween and going to the store like Kmart or Walmart during Halloween time, and picking out costumes during fall. It's a beautiful memory that I can't erase, I still do this with my Walkman, I walk in the store during fall and Halloween with this music on. Very exciting and a beautiful memory! 👻🎃

I met George Lamond in a club and he gave me his autograph, I thought I was going to die...he is so gorgeous and he has the only voice. A lot of the artists we've all grown to love has not stopped singing. George Lamond still does tours up and down the Northeast. He just did a New Years Eve show in NJ so he's definitely still doing his thing. He is also set to release a new single sometime this month but I forgot exactly when. Latin freestyle has not died. It's just you never hear it on the radio anymore.

i first heard this song as a child. i'd sneak into my brother's room to listen to and record a tape his exgirlfriend made for him. but now as an adult, this song reminds me of my husband and me. we started super long distance. i met him as i was leaving the country to live overseas and start a new life there. well life has its own plans and we missed each other terribly, so i returned to start my new life here with him. before i knew him i had already started learning his language so we communicated with our limited knowledge of each other's language. in the end, we overcame distance, language barriers, cultural barriers, and even personal differences to get where we are. through the struggles and our faith in each other we made it work and grow stronger everyday. :)
