I don't know if it has mentioned to you yet, but Ai's voice actress also voices Tomo. Which makes Tomo's scream singing of children's songs even funnier in retrospect.

I love Ai, and Kana is my favorite character of the show and maybe year, but I have to shout-out Miyako Saitou, who stepped up as a mother and a business woman. What a woman.
while "isekai" and "reincarnation" often go hand in hand, they're technically separate subgenres. to me personally, in order to qualify as an "Isekai", the worlds themselves need to be distinct, so I'd only classify it as a "reincarnation" story and not an "isekai"

Please watch the music video for the theme song "IDOL" once again. I believe you will have a completely different reaction from before because you will understand why this music video has such a unique music composition, why the visual design is like this, and why the lyrics are crafted in such a way. And you will be moved by it. There is also an official English version sung by himself. The incredible aspect of this seemingly unnatural English translation is that it not only aligns with the sounds of the Japanese language but also with the meaning of the story. Furthermore, after listening to the Japanese version several times, when you listen to the English version, there are parts where it sounds like Japanese despite being in English. This part of the lyrics sounds Japanese for some reason. ENG"That emotion melts"=JPN"daremoga mewo". ENG"Completely deny"=JPN"kanpekijanai"
This pilot really isn't "beginning, middle and end". It's all beginning. This is the prologue.
I think you misunderstood :D it is laid out beginning, middle, end and sets the scene for the remainder of the show / story! It's not a typical pilot episode because it could in theory be a standalone film, although it would leave on a cliffhanger

To be fair the anime doesn't give saitou justice. This dude thought of Ai has his own daughter. he wanted to drink with her one week before the dome concert, when she died She became 20 And so he drinked alone the morizo he was suppose to share with Ai (Even pouring another drink for her "soul" that he will not drink at all) and to be fair. In the anime that's the last time you hear about him compared to in the manga when you know what he became. And that stuff hurts a lot.
This is the best anime of the year.

I am going to tell you, you are going to be in for a ride with this series. You get the best since this is done by the same Love is War author Aka Akasaka.
YOASOBI also sings the theme song for "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury." If you watch the music video again after watching the anime from the prologue to episode 24, you will be moved to realize that the meaning of the video is completely different from what you had imagined. The last line of the lyric is very important in the ending of the story. You will understand and be moved by the meaning of the images just as you were when you watched the MV for "IDOL" after watching the first episode of "Oshi no ko".

Ah, looking forward to your reactions... the manga was written by the author of Kaguya-sama and nominally takes place in the same universe; notably by reference to the 'Sweet' shoujo manga that they read in season 2. Whilst it doesn't drop to depicting things as completely corrupt with people being outright evil and deprived, like some stories might, this does a lot to give a gritty realism to how difficult the entertainment industry is in Japan.
That being said it can still be funny, sweet and fun at times - look forward to it.

Them making the first episode more than 1 hour to show Ai's life is a very good move.
So far, you are the only reactor I saw who didn't freak out about the doctor.
Some can't even move on even after this episode and treated Aqua like a creep.
If they split this into 3 episodes, most people would probably drop it after watching 1/3 of this.

and the best part, those who know this already know I'm right, but no one who hasn't seen it will understand and will be plagued with dark curiosity over whether I'm right or not. then they'll watch it and learn and the misery spreads.
It's okay, the show DOES get better but that first 10 minutes my guy, it's a bad one.

well, i came in the show with the mindset to challenge your opinion. but even without doing so, i think i'd still laugh. u sure this ain't comedy?
I have a huge problem with this anime story. First, it's unfaire to the other one out there because it's one hour long. Anything can be good if you combine 3 episodes in 1. So why ? Either they weren'y confident enought with what they had in end and needed to finish with a bang or the story was poorly written to begin with. This first episode hardly focuse on Ai until the moment before her death. If I had to change it, I would have set the whole first 20 episodes about her point of view, so that it would been more shcoking when she happen not to be the main character. But my biggest complain is about that reincarnation stuff. Looks to me like it was added to justify Aqua's revenge and it doesn't touch be at all. First because it's an 30 years old man in the body of a child, giving me toxic relationship with everyone around him, and it doesn't stop here. But it doesn't seem like it will play a huge role in the series, because he never talk to Ruby and about their past life. I would have prefer if their were her real kids who would try to avenge her on the one hand and follow her will on the other. It's very easy to do : make Ruby a sickly child who got better as she grow up and make Aqua discover when he was a teen about the whole murder thing because he would have been older, remembered the incident, got some clues for who knows who... All of this save you a lot of time, like not making the manager a bad person to begin with, meaning she would have had a stronger relationship with the kids to begin with. And poof, you have a classic first episode with a heartbreking twist at the end, without the creepy stuff about breastfeeding from a 16-17 teenager. And for the other stuff that can't fit it, you just use anime trump card : flashbacks.
But anyway, I did enjoy this anime once I put all the problematic part to the side. I haven't read the manga, only watch the 11 episodes of season 1 so I don't know if what I've pointed out will be corrected. But it doesn't seem so. I'm note sure I'm interested by the characters or the mystery enough to watch season 2 when it'll aired.

Nothing is stopping other animes from making their first ep one hour long, it's their fault not oshi no ko's

Just because you combine 3 episodes into one, doesn't mean it will be good. Oshi no Ko is not the first anime to have an extended first episode. Fate/Zero and Unlimited Blade Works both have extended first episodes; UBW even had two 45 minute episodes. That has no relation to the quality of the writing. The anime has only covered the first third of the manga and there are parts that make it pretty impossible for the story to work without reincarnation. The reincarnation also generally makes it far more plausible Aqua would be mature and intelligent enough to accomplish his goals.
