Congratulations on finding the door pull! I certainly understand that feeling! Hunting for stone artifacts here in the states I'm positive the feeling is exactly the same! Most of my artifact hunting friends will dismissed stone tools as not important. They are not shaped like a point, but my opinion Is they handled the tools way more often than a projectile point! These are everyday items! Used in everyday life! hundreds to thousands of years ago depending on the age of the sight!! A beautiful find for you Sir!! Once again. A beautiful video!! It would not surprise me to see you directing an award winning documentary film in the future! Thank you Sir for taking us with you!!

I can vaguely understand how you were feeling with the Roman drawer pull in your hand, the thrill of touching something that was used so many years ago. It's as if you have them looking at it over your shoulder. I felt like that when I was standing next to a Roman mosaic floor, I had to bend down and lay my hand on it, the imagination takes you back in time and I still find it awe inspiring after over 30 years. The lead horse is only small but is well designed, and the pottery shard if you found the other pieces could be put together again. You didn't find another Roman coin but what a fantastic day on the villa field it was wonderful to join you once again Hans. The leaves are changing into their bright Autumn colours and the berries are waiting for the birds to feast on them, I loved the cricket bounding in the grass, fascinating insects lol. Even though I’m not there with you and I’m unable to go detecting I think and feel just as excited as you do with very special finds like this one! Even watching the video I think who pulled on that handle. What was there life like at that time! To hold in your hands something so special from 2000 years ago!!! I’m excited right along with you! Also the chard I see a lot of that kind of pottery from videos I watch from London mudlarking on the River Thames!
It’s everywhere their. I even get excited when a chard of blue white is found and has a tiny little seen of a boat and a man or what ever it it shows is a wonder from the hands and family from soooooo long ago!

i would say that the fragment of bowl is a recent break but it was a larger fragment rather than a full bowl the chances of a bowl not being broken is slim on fields with tractors driving over them . most full bowls would be found at depth in graves or when cleaning out roman wells . i would not imaging the the one you found has only this year been hit and broken . but in saying this there is always a chance i suppose log the aria and keep looking every plough you may find the rest and looking at the size of your piece of pot it may still be in large bits . also sometimes the plough does go deeper in wetter weather conditions and may of hit the edge and dragged it to the surface . great vid GL&HH the rest of the bowl

That handle is an amazing find!
    And the condition is beautiful.
To think that the last person to touch that was a Roman around 2,000 years ago is absolutely mind-blowing to me!
Congratulations on a truly one of a kind find! And yes as a detectorist I do know what you mean.

Fantastic video Hans. Easily my favourite detecting channel on CZcams buddy. I too have been detecting on a Roman Villa site during the harvest months for the past 4 years. I would love to find a drawer pull like yours! It’s stunning. Look forward to seeing how you get on next time. Keep up the good work my friend 🙏🏻👍🏻

  • @yvonnepaulovicqueen1677

Hey Hans really happy for you that you found the roman drawer pull. I know the feeling of almost feeling and seeing the folks who touched and pulled the drawer in and out so long ago. When I find a native American artifact my mind flashes back to a time when where I am standing was surrounded by huge trees and deep forest full of wild life. I can almost see the person sitting and knapping the flint or chert into a magnificent point or utilitarian tool. I missed the boat on being an archeologist. I liked what you said about the pull being in a museum. I too find it hard to keep or horde things I find. Ja some things are keep sakes and would have no meaning except to us. Awesome find. Glad that you found such a sweet spot! You work really hard for the things that you find. You passing on your joy to us youtubers I feel is very special. Thank you!

Hello Hans, this big shard of samian ware is very unusual in a plowed field. Never found samian ware myself (yet!) but I agree with you about the size of pottery shards I come across, they are smaller even when they are thicker than a delicate samian ware. I give you 100% reason about your suspicion that this particular piece could not have survived unless it was deeper in the soil not so long ago. Tschuss.
