"WAiT. Am I ready for this?"
Believe me. No one was ready for this.
Facts
I don't why but I said "Zimzalabim" right after he said that 💀

NO KPOP STANS ARE READY FOR THIS MASTERPIECE!
While Stray Kids’s song Miroh tells us about how they choose to enter a maze, Side Effect tells us about the side effect of entering the maze. In that MV, they’ve gone through some difficulties. they can choose the easier way if they want to (10:00) but this is the way that they choose, even it’s hard. In the chorus you can hear the adlibs “side effects include insomnia, anxiety... etc”, thats the side effect of choosing that way!
The story goes on to Stray Kids’s song Double Knot, so if that’s the way they choose to find the key, they have to prepare for it. And then the story goes on to Levanter, all these journey to find the key, but they have to accept the fact that the key is themselves, so they have to let go all their burden.
Stray Kids is the music genius, indeed.
:)
yess, very well explainedd, hope he reads it
Isabelle Channel it’s just a part of their story, the side effect of the journey. They sometimes argue and have a different opinion (like that hyunjin and seungmin part or when hyunjin grabs felix’s shoulder), but at the end of the MV, they’re still together :)
thank you omg!!
Ahhh. That makes sense. Wow I really be going backwards huh 🤣
in the chorus line if you listen closely there is a voice in the back saying "Common side effects include; nervousness, insomnia, nausea, agitation, anxiety, sweating, vision problems, psychosis, numbness, dizziness, headaches, etc." if you look at the lyrics this song has heavy themes of, what it seems, drugs. the line they all shout at the chorus is "Meori apeuda" (Hope i romanticized that right) which means "My head hurts" and the song is just so interesting. My favorite Stray Kids song 100%
Sky Burnett im not sure, but i think its meori apeuda.
@@callmejimpickens5558 That looks more accurate, I'll change it to that, thanks
Sky Burnett no problem
Oh damnn. Absolute mind fuck 🤯🤯
@@JeffAvenue Indeed
This is the most controversial skz song. Most stays love it, but the rest of stan twt used it to hate on skz, calling the song "noise"
Personally, I think it's incredible, they really showed a different style and killed it
i agree!! To be fair tho, it's in the genre. Psytrance is a controversial genre. One either really likes it or just straight up hates it
this was actually the song that made me become a stay
Musically I don't like this song! But I have to admit it is an artistic masterpiece! For me the song and even the choreography are text painting!
me, a veteran nctizen: *casually bopping to the song* noise?
Stan twt is so toxic sometimes 😤 This was mind fucking but I wouldn’t call in noise. BUT even in that sense, I can understand the confusion because this concept is so unique. It’s intellectual and something to dissect before being enjoyed completely I think. It’ll draw you in at first and then make you think.
Jeff: Holy crap, Felix's voice
Me: ...felt that.....😂
"Am I ready for this?"
The answer is no, no one is ever ready
This song was such a bold move in my opinion since it's so different from the usual kpop songs. I love how they make the music they want and don't care about people calling it "noise".
Definitely. I love that we’re in an era of kpop idols bringing something different to the table!
Jeff go react to Victory Song. You can really hear Felix's deep voice in that song!
The choreo is super cool too!
Yeahhh pleasee
I put out, just now, a reaction video of BOXER by STRAY KIDS! feel free to check it out : )
VICTORY SONG! 🙏
I couldn't hear Felix's voice when i first listened to that song.
I think what you missed out on the chorus (on why it feels so different, apart from it being heavily instrumental) is that they were whispering "common side effects" like nausea, anxiety, etc. I didn't notice it at first listen to but when someone pointed it out to me, I was mindblown. Haha
same and sometimes I can't stop myself enumerating it to the point my sister heard me and was like "that's a lot of suffering"
I think so cause like I watch this with a lower volume so it doesn’t overwhelm my voice/mic then I adjust the volume in post
@@JeffAvenue That's understandable! I didn't notice it at first too and I was thrown off. Haha. Hoping you're enjoying their music so far ❤️❤️❤️
I love this particular performance because it feels like an acid trip. they don't exactly move in time with each other so each movement is like a ripple... kind of like a side effect of the other person's movement.
It’s BRILLIANT
Jeff: Am I ready for this??
Stays:👁👄👁 No you're not
👁👄👁 🤡
👁👄👁
Am I ready for this?
No you're not.
Side effects is another level lmao
There are not a lot of groups that make music like them.
They basically introduced a new style to kpop that's why their songs are so different and they also produce a lot of them all by themselves as well as they participate in the process of making the choreography
MOOD
ExAcTlY,it's not easy for anyone, they always find a way to surprise us ... I love it, I love them-
I'm glad JYPE just let them make their own music
Lol this song is just dramatic AF and I looove it
I'm fully convinced this song was the start to the noise music trend in kpop thats currently going on and I don't mean it in a bad way
“am i ready for this ?” baby its stray kids, were never ready for what they have up their sleeve
jeff being shocked by felix voice
i feel u bro his voice is so deep i had the same reaction when i heard his voice for the first time
There's so many theories about what the mv means. It ties into a lot of their mvs, and you can even see they tied back some of the choreo in Levanter to Side Affects (the part with Hyunjin controlling Felix)
Great. I’m not good with theories haha. I’ll stick to performing analysis lol
Jeff ; wait a sec, am i ready for this?
me: NO, You are not
Side effects include insomnia
Me: dam right it does cause it's 12.30 am here
Haha! 12:30a is early! Try 4am 😭
I've slept later than 12.30 but you should sleep earlier
Please react to Stray Kids "Victory Song" The Choreography is also great❤️
YES
Yess pls
^3
Yes please!!!
YES was gonna recommend this one!
*woojin part comings on*
me: _crying_
"wait, I'm sorry, gotta rewind"
we all do, jeff. we all do.
Love this choreography and song, it has such a deep message and I love it
Jeff dying over Felix's voice is such a big mood- i feel like we all die when we hear his voice 😩✌️
side effect is legit one of my favorite songs by stay kids
I had to listen to this song multiple times to really get into it but the choreography captured me so I had to watch all the performance videos of it and by the end of it I loved the song, I could listen to them all day anyways, one of my favorite songs is „Voices“ and they also released a performance video for it, it‘s pretty awesome 💕😂
You know it’s a great song when it does that to you!
I love how all of the ripple effects in the choreography express a theme of how actions and circumstances external to you affect your behavior and emotions? It’s like passing one person’s actions on to all of the people around them. It really is such interesting storytelling!
You are me when I first heard Felix voice. The disparity between his face and voice had me shook.
"aww, woojin :)"
why is Jeff all of us???
My top three skz songs to listen to if you want to hear Felix's deep voice:
1.3rd eye
2.Victory Song
3.District 9
N/S song too
no one:
the comments: am i ready for this?
Honestly side effects is one of my favourite stray kids songs
Ugh felix and seungmin in side effects sent them right to the top of my bias list (yes they're my biases now)
This is one of my favourites actually. Happy to see you react to it. I became a Stray Kid fan because of Felix. Just could not believe what I was hearing lol and got curious
The amount of lines and center time seungmin got in this song is the best among stray kids songs. i am so happy he got to shine in this comecack!
Lots of people really hate this song. But for me this is an art. The songs the rhythm the choreo the way they act the formations. They’re perfect. Stray kids are really bold and brave for releasing this kind of song.
The storyline is connected throughout a lot of their mvs. They are searching for a key that represents who they are and what they want to be. A lot of their songs focus on identity and in the storyline they are trying to find the key to their identity. In Levanter they realize that the key is themselves and that they have to accept themselves in order to find who they truly are. If you watch the mvs in chronological order while reading the lyrics it makes more sense. Also I'm glad that Side Effects got reacted to, it's my favorite song from them!
Stray Kids are really one in a million, they are very unique and special for a kpop group. Their essence are "real life themes" despite the fact that they are very young, they always leave a message in their songs about self-esteem, hard work but also dark topics like mental health problems, such an outstanding group!!
the choreography and how it ties in with the meaning of the song is what made me love side effects. it’s feels like everything is carefully thought through to really drive the message home and i find that really satisfying
WHAT I LEARNED IS THAT WE CAN'T EVER EXPECT WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN SKZ SONGS, BY NOW I JUST LET THEM SURPRISE ME
AND THIS SONG IDK WHY I LISTEN TO IT EVEN BEFORE SLEEP... IT'S ALSO SURPRISED ME THAT I LOVE THIS GENRE THEY KILLED IT.. AND IT'S SO MEANINGFUL TOO
SORRY WITH THE CAPSLOCK HAHA LOVE YOUR REACTION PLS DO MORE STRAY KIDS THANK YOUUU i really love your reaction because you also let out really genius comments too
the dance formation ended with everyone on their knees, if you watch levanter dance it started with the end of side effects. also hyunjin on the ground and chan help him out on the mv also the intro of the levanter choreography. genius. my fav from the mv is definitely when felix last meori apeuda before the dance break and they all pose there in the middle of the street with all the thunder on the sky damn
I love, how he analyzes the mv, the meaning of the song, the choreo and everything, but as soon as it's Woojin's parts, he's just fanboying 🥰
SO basically this video is Jeff being Woojin biased and getting biased wrecked by Felix LMAO
No one:
Jeff to Felix's voice: "holly crap, his voice!"
Same Jeff, same
This was one of the first songs I reacted to by Stray kids. It blew me away. Just the whole scenery-concept-idea. I was like. They made screaming music and it sounds fire along side their vocals and rapping and elegant formation dancing. Also the My head hurts part where they all just move so disorganized just SPEAKS TO ME ON AN EMOTIONAL LEVEL. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO STAN.
Your overall reaction was so similar to mine it's almost funny. I was also shook by Felix's voice, and the performance, and also the chorus. I think we all were.
Jeff: I thought It was a chill song
Me: I'm afraid it's not. None of their songs are chill. They literally stop u from breathing
pls react to the show "hit the stage" performances yugyeom of got7 and u-know of block b
and ten from NCT's performances
This is by far my favourite Stray Kids choreo. It may not be the hardest but I find it very powerful. They did a remix of the song and choreo for the MBC The Live end of year show.
side effects is such a performance song like omg the dance and visual representation of the song is insane
This song is a whole EXPERIENCE
i was blown away wow. stray kids is really an under-appreciated group, esp in kr.
If you see their choreography, it all matches with the lyrics and concept. As they said on chorus: “머리 아프다” or “my head hurts”, that’s why the dance will make you dizzy to represent it.
Something I’ve always loved about Stray Kids is that every single song they have is different, yet still so distinctly Stray Kids. That goes for their choreography and dance styles as well. Each member’s voice is distinct and easily isolated, and each member’s dance style is easy to tell. If you’re interested in another Stray Kids song that did something different, I would maybe consider checking out Miroh. They incorporated haka into the dance and it’s really beautiful. I don’t know how familiar you are with haka, but I would love to see your opinion on it! And no pressure or anything, I love all the videos you put out :)
This song is really ‘mysterious’ in a way. Some people like it, some people don’t. This song is one of the most hated stray kids song, everyone started to say their music is just random noises. I don’t think you noticed it but in the chorus is really cool how you can hear “common side effects include nervousness, insomnia, nausea, agitation, anxiety, sweating, vision problems, psychosis, numbness, dizziness, headaches, weight loss” which I think it’s connected to the choreography.
I really like how they coreographed this by themselves
I don't know if you have noticed, but during the chorus there is a voice saying different side effects, as like, headaches... Etc, I actually don't remember what he is saying but well, I think it's cool
I’m just happy theyre brave enough to try Psychedelic Trance as a genre tbh... they utilized and executed the genre very well.. theyre truly genius
Yes!! I'm still shook by Felix's voice every time I hear it! haha I feel ya! 😜💕
This song, from my understanding, is about anxiety. The main line they say during the chorus translates to "my head hurts." Near the end, felix says it again, while putting his hand against his face, as you would do if you had a headache. Then when the beat drops, there's a voice that's listing off all the "side effects" of anxiety medication (like nausea, nervousness, headaches, etc). The choreography and instrumentals matches well with the lyrics, like you said it feels like it's messing with your brain
The walking at the very end is the intro for levanter, Hyunjin is on the ground and then stands up just like in the MC and they key is from double knot.
stray kids: mori apeuda (chorus like, means “my head hurts”)
jeff’s head: ouch
"My HEAD hurts" but I assume this was autocorrect ;)
spacehuhn oh yeah it was
a major theme of the song is about people changing and how depending on who youre talking to you act different, and that they fear changing as it happens, i think hyunjin was on the ground, because the bridge is about how being overconfident on the outside and how you can overdose on all the bravado, and i think the ending part is about him having overdosed on all that false confidence (as the visual he has struggled with people assuming he only made it or would make it because he’s pretty, something that actually made him work harder but it could be a reference to that) and i think the theme overall is about how people change and how its confusing, one of the lines they were chanting translates to “my head hurts” which could be about how all of this change and what translates to “baseless confidence” is confusing and painful
so side effects is from their mini album clé 2: yellow wood, relating back to a poem by Robert frost, road not taken and how “two roads diverged at a yellow wood”. basically in the mv it’s showing how, because they didn’t listen to the governmental system that was giving them all the side effects (if you watch the district 9 MV you’ll understand who the governmental system is), it was a harder road to take but in the end they were happier because of it. all of stray kid’s main mv‘s tie into their storyline. this particular song’s main phrase, mori apeuda, means my head hurts, and after it side effects are literally said while the main instrumentals are played after the beat drop. things like anxiety, nervousness, nausea, insomnia, etc. are listed as side effects. district 9, hellevator, levanter, miroh, side effects, i am YOU, astronaut, i am NOT, and my pace are all part of the storyline! they’ve had the story since pre-debut. there are tons of theories out there as to what it’s about, but only chan himself can really tell us what he’s thinking lmao
“(The choreo)fits the concept, which is basically mind-fked” EXACTLY
i'm happy you think it's a good change in kpop, because many people said that this song was too heavy, not public friendly, or was just noise. I really felt sad for the boys because they really worked hard on this song. I hope many people will appreciate that they are not doing only basic commercial sounds. Because they have creativity, and they have a message to convey.
11:08
Chris: He's meditating guys
Minho: He's died
Seeing Seungmin and Hyunjin fight is actually really funny because they've talked about how they're really close and Seungmin is the only member of skz that Hyunjin has never fought with
Except for fangirling, everyone was left speechless when they watch side effects. It's a normal reaction
Jeff, a suggestion for your channel - maybe if you don't want the comments to be full of song requests, you could pin your comment asking people to only request songs in the replies (of the pinned comment).
I've seen some other reaction channels do this, and it seems to work.
Oh I honestly don’t mind. But we’ll see. Sometimes I need the pinned for something else hehe
thank you so much for reacting to this!! It's one of my favorite choreographies in kpop,, it's such a shame the song gets hated on so much cuz of the chorus :/
Love the way u smile when u saw Woojin The best thing we can give him …
My favourite song by straykids along with easy. It’s so unique and i’m sad that not many people like it.
There is a whole storyline connecting all their music videos and comeback trailers - it all quite mysterious :D. There are a few videos on youtube trying to explain their theories but nothing is really confirmed and I think it's nice to have your own theory about it 😊
There's always someone left out in Stray Kids music videos I find. There is always someone out of it and the other members are trying to help them out. In this one it was Hyunjin.
Omg watching side effects when you're not really sober hits completely different lmao I've never been this shook in my entire life wtf
All of their music videos link up somehow! I could list thousands of theories STAY have had but a couple of the main ones are related to the two moons, elevators and possible members being clones. They also use Keys and Conpasses a lot in the MVs so there’s the theory of them travelling in different AUs and getting lost and trying to find each other
The key at the end is a reference to the title of the mixtape. Clé is the french word for key ^^ ( you can actually see keys is the double knot music video too)
If you listen closely you'll hear a male voice reading out the common side effect of medications. The song is about being trapped in your head and they're literally shouting "my head hurts". My interpretation was that the song is about anxiety and taking medication to relieve it. This is pretty well reflected in the music (slower paced when calm and then fast when anxious), the choreography also does a similar thing.
If you feel like this song fucks up your mind, then you kind of got the point. Or atleast i think that's what they meant to potray in that video. The flickering lights, the dispersed move on part of the choreo, the black and white attires. It's kind of amazing how they can depict all those messed up feelings in one single music video and song :)
the way jeff said "am i ready for this" reminded me of wendy's "are you ready for this" in zimzalabim LMAOOOO
I've been waiting for this one !!! So excited !!!
me watching dis at november 18 me : yall bias woojin? well he left skz and im now a ot 8
In the chorus there is actually not only sounds and shouts. There is someone listing the side effects that are normally seen on medications.
The yellow filter is because the album is called "YELLOWOOD", and it's kind of based on road not taken poem.. It's depicts two scenarios, one if they had taken the bus and other if they had not.. We can relate it to other stuffs like drugs and all...
No. 1 KPOP SONG OF 2019 BY DAZED FOR A REASON. REVOLUTIONARY MUSIC IN KPOP SCENE INDEED.
This is the only stray kids songs I can't listen to because it triggers my anxiety but I love it so much !!
Yayyyyy my favorite performer react to my favorite song!! Thank you, I couldn't ask for more. And I like how you smile every time Woojin appears :D
One of the best Stray Kids' reaction I've seen. I love how you focus and appreciate every detail of their vids.
Please do a reaction on Stray Kids MAMA 2018 Performance Jef!!! Its one of the legendary performance in MAMA history I would say!! (Both rap performance (but you wont understand the meaning😂😅)and Hellevator,district9 performance)
Yesss
I was waiting for this. It's one of my favorite stay kids songs. They really emphasize the lyrics with the dance and vice versa. I can't get enough it goes so well.
3:34
The gulp gulps are my favorite part :)
yes, the live performance of side effect! esp the one on 2019 MBC. like vampire concept (chan entering the stage upside down lmao)
If you look carefully, there are a lot of references to their past m/vs. For example, Seungmin's holding the camera happens both here and in 'I am You' mv. However in that mv, the boys run back over to Seungmin to check the photo that he took of them, rather than Hyunjin throwing the camera away. The key is also a reference to all their clé title m/vs.
Stray Kids have a whole storyline, and there are a bunch of videos on youtube explaining it (and the storyline in side effects in particular), so I do recommend you check them out.
Loved the video!
I don't know if you noticed but in the chorus they scream "My head hurts" and a male voice starts naming different side effects: Nervousness, Insomnia, Nausea, Agitation, Anxiety, Sweating, Vision Problems, Psychosis, Numbness, Dizziness, Headaches, Weight Loss.
One of their best Title Tracks! Sadly many dont like it because of its genre but its lit!
him watching the choreo vid i was so hyped then i remember he didnt even reacted to the mv yet!
it’s basically them trying to fight the changes that the side effects are making but they can’t which is causing their heads to hurts along with other symptoms
This is as you said a very interesting Kpop group, the usually composed their own songs (3 of them) it's the case of this one, commonly they are often about liberation and victory almost as anthems, really recomend Miroh, since Bangchan and Felix are Australian they incorporated, tradicional Australian Battle on the choreography, it's amazing.
Also Jeff if you listen to the lyrics closely after you they say mori appo da (my head hurts) it goes ":Common Side Effects include: Nervousness, Insomnia, Nausea, Agitation, Anxiety, sweating, Vision Problems, numbness, Psychosis, Dizziness, headaches, weight loss
I hope you will read this even though it's long :)
Based of what I understood from the MV and lyrics and teasers:
(I've posted this in other places too)
In the first teaser, they are quite happy and bubbly and have to intention of taking the bus to "new world". And then the screen is split in 2 showing two different action. The driver's tattoo seems a little suspicious. When they get inside the bus, we see a happy Jeongin and a kinda worried Hyunjin.
The MV starts with them not taking the bus as shown in the teaser. However, they seem bright and assured they made the right choice. Only Hyunjin seems hesitant, his smile kinda fades away and he walks a little behind the other boys, doubting their choice. In the first part of the choreo, you can see two moons in the sky which can be a symbol of two things: a magnificent holiday or a total unhappiness.
They find their ride, an old truck. We see Felix and Hyunjin together and by my interpretation: Felix is sure and excited about their choice while Hyunjin is not. The lyrics in this scene reflect that: Felix represents the outer conviction and bravado one has when making a decision, while Hyunjin represents the inner insecurities and fears.
Later, the boys realize that the trip wouldn't be as easy as they thought cause they are racing with time to try and arrive at the location before they run out of fuel. The mood changes. However, Felix remains enthusiastic, excited trying to get a better view of the scenery but Hyunjin (still worried) irritably pulls him back, building pressure in the process. Their plans completely change when they see that the road to their destination has been blocked. They are in the middle of nowhere, without enough fuel to go back. The mood changes. However, Felix remains enthusiastic, excited trying to get a better view of the scenery but Hyunjin (still worried) irritably pulls him back, building pressure in the process.
Their plans completely change when they see that the road to their destination has been blocked. They are in the middle of nowhere, without enough fuel to go back.A map on the ground reveals that there is a breach in the fence, making the boys pile up in the van again and proceeding onwards on their journey. As they drive off, and aerial view of the bus is shown as if someone is watching them.
Night falls and the boys grow tired, especially Minho, who has been driving for hours. Jisung spots their destination out of the window and smiles, believing that they would reach there in no time. The vehicle then stops cause of a flat tire and the boys are utterly stranded, which gives them some minutes to reflect: Jeongin assuring Hyunjin that they aren't angry at him and Minho comforting a guilty Felix (he was the one who decided to ride the truck and not bus). Something approaches from a distance and it's the bus they could have taken. For the first time, we can see what I could've been like: peacefully asleep without a care. They are given the chance to ride the bus again but they kinda realize that something was wrong. In the bus they looked peaceful, too peaceful to be exact, as if someone with nefarious intentions is watching them. They quickly run away from the bus down to the field to escape from the people watching them (probably trying to kidnap/get rid of them).
(add: note, this can be interpreted as a continuation of their District 9 MV)
As they finally escape, Hyunjin is laying alone on the grass, wracked with sorrow and shame for being the one that wanted to get on the bus (and potentially get them all in danger). (not the truck because it Felix's choice) The other boys gathered around him with smiles in their faces, reassuring him that they don't have hard feelings towards him. As they walk away in the middle of nowhere, they have the lost the opportunity to reach a new world, but as long as they have each other it's all okay. A key lies alone in the pond. Possibly a new key to a new world, which means there is still hope for them.
By connecting this MV to the Miroh MV, I'm guessing the people supposedly watching them in this MV, might be related to the "politicians" in the beginning of Miroh, where Stray Kids bring the revolution. Also the bus driver is in fact one of the actors that played one of the politicians in Miroh.
This is just my interpretation and theory behind the MV, os there's nothing for sure.
And also as a whole album, I suppose "Yellow Wood" is based on the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, because the first track on the album is also called "Road Not Taken". Furthermore, the meaning of the poem is about a person having to choose between two roads. "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood" and the speaker is torn between which road is the best choice. Just like the boys are in this MV, where we also see a yellow tree standing in the middle.

if you want more stray kids content, you should react to “i am you”. compared to their other choreos, it’s probably the calmest one and it’s not so intense. it’s also really smooth and relaxing to watch but that’s just me. love your reactions!!
The more i watch more of their MV,i begin to realize this group is filled with talent.I love all their songs
