So Lore thoughts:
Ranni ending's very mistranslated- she wants to remove the influence of the outer gods by making the moon the new Erdtree, so to speak. This way, they can only interact with people on the moon- which is only you and Ranni, both insanely powerful people that would never bow down to them, and so the regular people are entirely devoid of any gods. Granted of course that you've killed all the demigods, at least.
If you talk to mini-Ranni in her tower's site of grace, in the OG Japanese she says
生命と魂が、律と共にあるとしても、それは遥かに遠くにあればよい
“…Even if life and souls are one with the order, it (the order) could be kept far away.”
確かに見ることも、感じることも、信じることも、触れることも …すべて、できない方がよい
“If it was not possible to clearly see, feel, believe in, or touch the order… That would be better.”
As the ending says, it's an Age of Stars- associated with science and knowledge. She wants people not to be guided by any kind of god or supreme order, but rather by themselves. But it's not imposing atheism onto the lands between, as she is essentially a god herself (and we her consort) in her ending. People can choose to believe in us- but they have to have faith, rather than know it to be true by us physically being there as Marika was. So she's placing her own faith in the people of the Lands Between that they don't majorly fuck everything up.
The 'correct' translation of her ending lines are
私は誓おう すべての生命と、すべての魂に
“I shall swear to all lives and souls”
これよりは星の世紀
“From hereon is the Age of Stars”
月の理、千年の旅
“The laws of the moon, a thousand year journey”
すべてよ、冷たい夜、はるか遠くに思うがよい
“To all, you may think of the chill night as infinitely far away”
恐れを、迷いを、孤独を そして暗きに行く路を さあ、行こうか
“And now, let us go on our path of fear, doubt, and loneliness, into darkness”
With the last line, 'us' being directed at herself and the player, rather than the regular people.
The item description of the Dark Moon Ring says
"Whoever thou mayest be, take not the ring from this place, the solitude beyond the night is better mine alone."
Suggesting she intended to be by herself for a thousand years were it not for you. Not entirely selfless as she's quite clearly more of an introvert though. I assume she would check up after a thousand years to make sure it's all going alright- an Empyrean soul is probably immortal regardless of the doll vessel it's containing, and Tarnished don't seem to age given Gideon was like, hella old and Ensha was literally a walking corpse.
There are only 6 endings in the game, but 4 of them are actually the same achievement wise, so I'll order them in terms of 'goodness.'
Of the two 'good endings' I do prefer this one to the Golden Order ending. Both remove the influence of outer gods, but one has a moon wife, so... easy choice.
Of the two neutrals, I think age of dusk is better than age of fracture. Both mostly just continue the status quo, with the elden ring being repaired, but at least one removes a portion of racism from the golden order.
Of the two 'evils,' age of frenzy is way better than age of despair. Like, whole burn it all down thing, plus you can save Melina, but with the DLC having a previous lord of frenzied flame it also suggests that it's not as permanent as previously thought.
So the Ranni ending is basically the same as the Goldmask ending minus the Golden Order right? In that case I'd personally prefer the Goldmask ending because that way our player character could lead the Lands Between to a better future instead of just leaving it to stumble around for a while.
But on the other hand, throughout the entire game, I have not seen one creature that is happy or even content. Anyone that is remotely having a decent life just gets it ruined by some random event with zero chance for retribution or justice. There is nothing but pain, death and disgusting creatures so I am very tempted to just straight burn this mistake of a world to the ground on the next playthrough.

@@PIAN9021 I killed Godfrey and Gideon on my own time while messing around with builds. Funnily enough, Godfrey took me 20 minutes to kill which was longer than Radagon and the Elden Beast.
I will be doing another proper playthrough of Elden Ring though. Thinking a Long Sword only playthru in NG+
