Roger Daltrey guest stars on "The Leo Sayer Show" 20 Feb 1984. Together they sing the song written by Leo Sayer and David Courtney for Roger's first solo album "Daltrey".
I remember Leo explaining how this all came together in an interview back in the early 80s.He was friends with Roger and unable to get a record deal. Roger had asked Leo to write so songs for him and a week or so later came back with a bunch of songs. The album was a huge success for Roger and Leo s career took off from them. Roger always has been so grateful to Leo for the success of this album and for the start of his solo career.
This was on Just a Boy album released by Leo in October 74 with his breakout hit Long Tall Glasses. Not many folks had his Silverbird album, released November 73 at that time, but my brother did. We knew every word of every song, but never heard it get airplay. When long tall glasses hit.. we heard that every 30 mins on radio.
@Jackie - Well mate, it's for that VERY reason that uTube SACKED HIM!! - And all his other Thumbs-Down weeny buddies!! They're all history! Great song - it's a toss-up for me whether I like Leo's version or Rogers better. But it was great that this song helped bring Leo the recognition he deserved!
Leo and Roger singing live and a hard song to sing as well in the pebble mill studios, who out of the new breed of singers would do this now? I bet there wouldn't be many takers to put thereselves on offer like this
Hi ned . Did leo write this song for roger ? Because to me leo steals this song just saying. Although I've only heard Roger singing it ? Until I've seen this version. Great professionals at work !
@@chrislunnon1265 Not an expert, but yes I think that Leo wrote this one and the others on that old Daltrey album expressly for Roger. Leo is very talented, trained as a mime. Find his video for his big hit Long Tall Glasses. It's real fun.
I was going to post the same thing when I saw your comment. I'm a huge Daltrey fan but I know Leo Sayer too, of course. If anyone can hold his own with Roger Daltrey, they're doin' OK!
Much thanks to all my fans all over the globe, your comments and support has been my strength from the beginning. What part of the globe are you streaming from?
I was listening to a version of Leo Sayer of this song and thinking "I thought this was a Roger Daltrey song! Well, my memory is not what it used to be... Then I found (thanks Google) it was written by Leo and sung by Roger! It was not a memory problem, it was a knowledge problem. This brought many memories back, I was just a boy then.
Nice. As huge a Who fan as I am through CZcams you always discover something you've never seen before. A duet between the singer and the writer. Wonderful.
Leo sayer wrote the songs for rogers album titled Daltrey . So one man band released by both artists. Roger happened to be in studio at same time Leo was and as it wasn't happening artistically he asked Leo to help. I think other members of the who were doing own thing and roger at loose end.
Great song. Daltrey's recording was released a year before Sayer recorded it in 74. But I recall Sayer singing a great version of the song on television.
Great composition, leaves a lump in my throat 😢. Just a Boy, wish some of the guys I knew could've said and done just that. " I know Better now" yet some haven't learnt the separation of boyhood into manhood... Love these two in their careers. Awesome entertainers ❤️
I met Sir Gerard Hugh 'Leo Sayer' in 2008 at King's Road in the London Borough of Chelsea. We had a friendly conversation. He's 78 years in May 2022. May God bless him and Sir Roger Daltrey.
Had no idea these 2 collaborated. Unlikely pair but enjoy seeing these surprises on the tube.
Excellent - Finds like this is what makes CZcams great.
Leo sayer very underrated singer.great voice.
Underrated songwriter too.
No. He's not underrated at all. Everyone who should know , knows
Nah, he's rated way up there.

Leo Sayer was a big star a LONG time before this one.
@@mjh5437He simply wasn't. It was Leo Sayer's breakthrough year , 1973 that Roger had a hit with this. He was an unknown when he wrote this
This was on Just a Boy album released by Leo in October 74 with his breakout hit Long Tall Glasses.

Òther way round pal😂😂
It is 2024 now and two days ago, Roger Daltrey sang the song (he is on a solo tour), and spoke about this.
This is the best version of this song, the song writer and the original singer together.
treu
Who gave this a thumbs down? This is absolutely amazing *wipes-tears-from-eyes* absolutely first class.
Thanks for this video, you made my day!
Jackie Bell top tune x
Only leo can make the just a boy lyric go from high to low.. and mean what it should
Watch leo minstral version and notice the difference 😃
Ohhh how did I miss this epic event!! Wow !

That performance? That performance? That performance? That performance is stunning! Effortless both men living those words.
Wow ..much more respect for Daltrey
It's on a Daltrey solo album.
I read Roger's book last summer, what a lad, what a story of a self-made man.
I really want to read it. Read a few years ago the one from Townshend ant it was amazing too
Wonderful to see them both sing it....What a great song.
I love the smile of respect Roger gives Leo at 1:37. Great mates, for sure.
Never knew Leo Sayer wrote this. Great song. Great bloke too, Leo.
No he didn't
@@neilmorrison3288 Never knew i was wrong with the idea that Leo Sayer wrote this song. "Ooooh and i know better now,,,,,"
Pure class ! The songwriter and the interpreter together !
Just fantastic

Pure class....Rogers blue eyes 😊
I cannot believe this was one of Leo's productions!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ Way to go Leo 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Leo wrote most of the tunes for Roger's first solo record, early 70s. I have it on vinyl. It's really good
I also Ned
I was just a boy

Interesting to hear Leo Sayer next to Roger, I didn’t realise what a damn great voice Sayer had.
Leo is a much better singer!
Leo has a great voice, and it hasn't lost anything at all. Still touring and filling up stadiums all standing and singing along.
I was going to post the same thing when I saw your comment. I'm a huge Daltrey fan but I know Leo Sayer too, of course. If anyone can hold his own with Roger Daltrey, they're doin' OK!
Leo's voice is awesome. Love all his songs.👍🎤🎵
Leo allways had great voice pop songs but good ones
Even if you wrote the tune, it’s still got to be gutsy to do a duet with Roger.
bullshit, Leo is top-shelf
He smashes it though
I pickef this song for my brothers funeral, just Leo Sayer though. Still evokes memories.
Me too, very appropriate lyrics sadly 😢
this probably my favourite performance on the whole of CZcams!!!
Daltrey's voice was made for this tune! Would fit well into Quadrophenia, IMO
im thinking ...yeah. good call. maybe a little rougher version. a lil pete tone mixed in. good catch.
Would two stars of this magnitude try and sing live like this nowadays
Roger has the extraordinary ability to get inside songs and make them his, wonderful talent
Beautiful song makes you feel chilled and makes you smile
Much thanks to all my fans all over the globe, your comments and support has been my strength from the beginning. What part of the globe are you streaming from?
These Guys were great and are still fantastic.

Wow, when they sing at the same time, what a blend of voices! Effortless.
Huge respect to Leo Sayer
Two music legends. Superb performance.
Roger brilliant they are great together
I love this, a great moment in the history of popular music.
That look Roger giver at 1:37. That's genuine! And then a fleeting Tommy stare! Genius performance.
Nice.
As huge a Who fan as I am through CZcams you always discover something you've never seen before.
A duet between the singer and the writer.
Wonderful.
one of the greatest songs of my mis-spent childhood, lol, I was twelve when this came out but I still love this tune :-)

They sound great together
Agreed!
Well, what is better than either of these guys singing this song solo? the two of them together singing this song- fabulous
❤️ Cry every time i hear this. God bless The Who, Rog, and Leo..

Great song. Daltrey's recording was released a year before Sayer recorded it in 74. But I recall Sayer singing a great version of the song on television.
Wow! The songwriter (Leo Sayer) and his singer (Roger Daltrey)... Sayer gives this tune to Daltrey for their first album "Daltrey" in 1973.
Also 'One Man Band' and 'When The Music Stops". 1/3 the the album and all 3 singles.
Great vocals from both. Enjoy it. I certainly do. 👍
