Thanks brother, it all started with you, before I even knew of grasshopper, aaa.org, anything... I watched your vids daily, I dreamed one day to have painted minis like yours.... I can honestly say you are a huge part of my customizations, as if I didn't see your work, I may not have thought it really possible to paint all the units, in addition, if I had not painted, then I would not have gotten the customize bug.
I've done nothing close to your amazing work, but I colour coded the aft of the surface ships: Gold: Battleship Silver: Cruiser Bronze-ish: Destroyer Tan-white: Transport Subs and carriers are easily identifiable, so didn't need anything. Italians became marine blue because I hated the colour in my A&A AE set. Next: Unified colours that run through every faction (something red on every USSR unit, something white on every Japanese unit etc) + decals to easily distinguish them.
Yeah, the destroyers and cruisers confuse me at first, wish they put a pointy end on all cruisers and a clean cut on all destroyers, would be so much easier. Oh, once I mistook an Italian cruiser with a battleship. (was after like 6 hours of playing haha, we even make it take dmg )
Siredblood: Very nice and tasteful weathering aspects on the vehicles, and nice use of shades and highlights, especially on the infantry. What did you use to protect em, is that just a clear coat or something else? Awesome work, I am just starting and am only a few pieces in. Research is a big thing for realism. It all depends on the person's own taste. I've seen minis painted all different sort of ways, some just have a couple of the nations colors, which is cool, but for a realistic approach, these are very good! I vote for the U.S. next! p.s. digging the war helmet on your avatar! nice touch!
Thanks Big E, its funny you noticed the avatar helmet! I was going to change it, make it more like, idk... less "dark".. but that's been my avatar on everything for like a decade... even now, old friends on other sites know it me here if they need to talk, so I wanted to keep my avatar, yet add a little pizazz... so, how about a helmet! ............. As to what protects them is the polyurethane.
Really impressive how you have taken the time to paint it all, just strucked with awe here. How is the paint holding since you seem to get a lot more mileage out of your game than the average player?!
Thanks Jorn, the paint actually holds up great, we are not carful with them, they get clanged around digging for the right unit, etc. Nor do I want to have to be careful. the only issue really is the japan infantry, the bayonets are soft plastic, so they flex a lot and the paint comes off (slightly).. I have yet to touch them up, as you cant really see it unless you look. I completed the painting last October, and probably have over 30 games with them, im very pleased how they are holding up.
Unfortunately, there is no colors to get, I mixed every color... but in the next vid (not US, as its upping now) ill go over a little more what paints though, more on the process.
These are AWESOME! You're absolutely right about the color scheme. This one really captures a Russian type feel. I'm gonna paint some Mig-15s (actaully Ta-183s because they look like an earlier version of the Mig-15, which didn't fly till 1947, but hey, the Russians need something if they get Jet Tech) that awesome weathered steel color on your ships. How do you make that tone?
again, outstanding army! for your weathering, what are you using as a wash? looking to put some weathering on my future pieces. For that piece that chipped, are you using a finish on your pieces? I use a generic matte acrylic finish on my and I haven't had any issues with wear or chipping. just a friendly tip. keep it up man! great hobby.
I use a polyurethane for the wash, I recently made a vid of the painting process, as for my wear, they are 95-98% great condition, my pieces are coming up to 8 months old, with 40+ games on them. We are also NOT careful with them lol, so a few casualties are expected.
Awesome, seeing your units close up. Just to let you, and others know. The prizes, I painted for the invitational are up, on the customization part of the forums, so go check them out. I hope you all, will like these prizes. Cheers! John
Thanks John, just checked them out, epic bro, not only the work, but to offer them up! Talking to you a lot on the forums, you seem like a really great guy, I hope someday we can battle!
I try to be, lol. That would be awesome to battle you some day. I live by Paris, Texas which is 1 1/2 hours northeast of Dallas. So if your ever in the area that would be cool. Glad you like the pieces. Cheers! John
yeah, i assumed they were decals, but even so...just cutting them right must have been quite a challange. No way i could do something that precise, would loose my head completely :)
Damn....I am so jealous! You are an extremely talented individual!...man I love your channel and your work.....keep it up and don't look back.

Brother....I am humbled and honored by what you just said. I truly am speechless......
Very nice! I can't wait to see the custom infantry when you find the extra time to paint them.
Thanks, they got to prime stage (not all of course)... I have 15 or so on deck. I modded all the bases to the OOB round ones.
This is really impressive, you must be an amazing artist.
Thank you so much for the comment, nice of you to say!

LOL, I love the part not only mistook it, but gave it damage.. classic!
haha, yeah, the italian cruiser looks only a little smaller than the battleship.
love the painted units! You make all the rest of us (perhaps except The Garrison) look bad ;)but, excellent inspiration....

I also might want to paint the SN-42 body armor on the Soviet Assault Engineers that weathered steel too.
are those set up charts available online? there great!
Excellent job! Maybe nice to share which paints you used. I think the choice of colors is excellent too!
Unfortunately, there is no colors to get, I mixed every color... but in the next vid (not US, as its upping now) ill go over a little more what paints though, more on the process.

Thanks man, as for weathering, its due to a base coat, a wash to bring out details, then dry brushing... browns, reds, silver.
These aren’t you’re pieces! These are OUR PIECES ☭

Great series! Did you mention where you picked up the tanks from?
Historical board gaming
Where did you get the boxes?

and how the bloody hell did you manage to get those small numbers in front of your ships???...damn
The numbers took SO long, they are in fact decals, but they are the hardest decals to work with, and I would never do it again.
yeah, i assumed they were decals, but even so...just cutting them right must have been quite a challange. No way i could do something that precise, would loose my head completely :)
Ya, It did... took longer to decal the units then it did to paint them, it was a horrible experience.
I was that person for a week. Then I figured it out
Ya, those beginning days were lame haha.... looking in the book for the silhouette to see what it is.
siredblood oh yeah. So bad
But ... do you PLAY the game?
