  • Vintage Gold Distressed T Shirt Design - How To Screen Print - Ok so lets go through the different methods I have used to get this Vintage gold distressed shimmer distressed print.
Let’s start with the artwork, so we have a solid logo and need to add a distressed vintage look and feel to it. So we get our Distressed effect and place this over the design.
Now depending on how small or big the design is we either have to adjust the distressed effect to compensate for the small detail. For this design, because it’s a smaller left chest styled design I over exaggerated the distressed effect in the vector graphic.
Why because when we come to print the gold shimmer ink through the 43 / 110 Mesh the effect starts to close up after a few stokes, especially after we flash and print it again to build up the strength of the print.
So if you are sending your artwork over to a printer and you want it all set just to print and not be messed with, make sure you get that distressed effect right or you won’t get the results you are looking for.Get to know how to prepare your graphic design artwork correctly for handover and get the best results.
Moving onto the screens, as I said I used a 43T or 110 mesh. My Tension on the screens is above 20 newtons, which is nice and taunt and This makes a really nice clean print. Allows you to have less pressure in your squeegee which in turn saves your wrists.
I printed 2 strokes making sure to clear the ink from the mesh, so there is no ink or shimmer left in the mesh. If your on a manual maybe 3 strokes just make sure you have a good clear screen after those strokes.
Now I don’t just go and bang the print out with a furious stroke speed, just nice and controlled keeping the crisp detail of the design.
Then we need to flash the print, which is just semi curing or gelling the ink. There are so many different flash units out there so the variables (that’s technical) are huge, mine is set on 70% for 8 seconds. Yours may be setting 8 for 15 seconds. Basically get the ink to where is touch dry , not cured.
Around the shirt comes again to the finish line, now here I only hit this with one stokes of ink. By now the ink and board is nice and warm so you should get a very nice clean stoke of ink through the screen. If not 2 stokes - problem solved.
Shirt comes off and into the Tunnel dryer of intense heat to fully cure that print for at least 1 and half minutes.
Then Film for about 10 hours in between... which brings this episode to the end. Make sure you follow us on our social channels, smash the like button subscribe and I’m going to, I don’t know what I’m going to do, see you in the next one.
And that is how a shimmer gold distressed print is done.
