We hope you enjoy the episode and we’ll see you at Iki Island

Congratulations! Btw, if you wear the blue gosaku armour, with the crooked kama headband and the sly tanuki sword kit, you will get a achievement (its a reference to Sly Cooper). As for the sequel, it will probably cover the second Mongol invasion of Japan, which was muuuuch larger than the first, in fact im pretty sure that the second invasion had the largest amphibious landing in human history up until D-day. The second invasion was much more eventful than the first.
I also saw you guys we’re wondering about the history of the first Invasion of Tsushima. So ill try to give a not so brief summary. In autumn 1274 AD, Kublai Khan (Great Khan of the mongol empire) made the decision to invade Japan due to the Shogunate ignoring his demands to submit to mongol rule (The Ghosting of Tsushima?). A fleet containing roughly 8000 men left the port of Busan in korea and headed towards Tsushima. That morning on Tsushima, the shrine to the Japanese God of War Hachiman caught fire. Most saw this as an omen but the Historical Jito of the Island So Sukekune (of the So clan, and who Lord Shimura is based off) noticed white doves sitting on the extinguished shrine (doves in Japanese Mythology are the Messengers of Hachiman) instead, Sukekune saw this as a foreboding warning. The same day, in the evening, mongol ships were spotted on the horizon. Sukekune lead a warrior band of 80 Samurai to meet the invaders at Komodahama beach, passing through the many mountain passes of Tsushima, he finally reached at roughly midnight. The invaders were hovering in the bay. A small envoy was sent to question the reasoning for their invasion, the mongols made it clear that the time for negotiations had passed and that they were there to fight. The battle begun and the Mongol Light shieldmen formed a shield wall and started marching up the beach. This is where the sharpshooting skills of the Samurai made themselves clear. The Shield wall was only meant to be a distraction whilst the Elite Mongol Horse Archers disembarked from the ships. The Mongol shieldmen began closing in, this is where the swordsmanship and skill of the samurai made itself known, one of Sukekune’s followers So Sukesada, cut down 25 Mongols, including an officer. He hurled insults at the invaders, who responded with a hail of arrows, killing him. Sukekune’s forces were overwhelmed and regrouped at the treeline for a final, Samurai cavalry charge, which proved to be in vain. The bodies of Sukekune and his followers were left on the beach. Tsushima was left to the invaders for taking. They committed their infamous atrocities by listening for the cries of children in the mountains. Thousands of Women and children from tsushima were crucified on the ships sails, like a morbid necklace. The Mongols conquered the island of Iki in a similar fashion and they prepared for an invasion of the mainland. However, they didn’t try it this time. Some say they ran out of supplies, others say they realised they needed more man power and went back to Korea to try again later, the most popular theory is that a storm wrecked a large chunk of the mongol fleet. So they returned to Korea. The Mongols would try again later. Anyway, if you want more detail, and want to hear about the second invasion you should watch the videos about the mongol invasions of Japan.
Also, as for Jin. He is not a real historical character, The clan Sakai is real. However, it is not located on Tsushima and was formed hundreds of years later. Jin’s character is probably based off of a variety of historical figures, such as Hatori Hanzo, Honda Tadakatsu, Miyamoto Musashi and Uesugi Kenshin to name a few. But it is a looooot of creative liberty. Clan shimura did not exist at any point in Japanese history. As for the Samurai code, yeaah thats bs. In fact a historical Samurai would act more like a mixture of Jin’s tactics and the Mongols. Were the Samurai honourable, yes. But not in the way us modern people think. Honour for the Samurai meant bringing victory to your lord. Now, tell me, if you were given a command by your Lord to kill someone and you went to go do as you were told. You see the guy, he has his back turned, you could easily stab him in the back, but instead you call him out for an ‘honourable’ duel. Now he kicks your a** and you return to your Lord. “What happened?” “Oh he had his back turned and I could have killed him but instead, i called him out for an honourable fight” ._. Yeah, no, he would probably have you executed on the spot. The most accurate representation of a Samurai that you will see in this game you will see on Iki.
I think the reason as to why the Ronin attire had so many variations is because, the type of clothing that it is, is very famous in Japanese culture, and there are a lot of variations in real life. So they probably wanted to add a large list of options for that one alone. The armour in the game, whilst definitely realistic in terms of looks and structure, is not from the correct period. Majority of the armour and clothing you see in the game comes a good 350-400 years after the events of the game. Heck, even masks were not used by the Samurai yet. Also, the Samurai at this time were primarily horse archers, and preferred to not resort to melee combat (especially sword combat). As for duelling variety, yeah the main game could have done that better, but Iki may be better ;).
Anyways, sorry for my endless blabbering. This (main) play through was great to watch, hope you guys enjoyed the game. And Goodluck on Iki!
Edit: oh god ive written a novel.

This game is based on the real-life 1st Mongol invasion of Japan. After being defeated by the Japanese Samurai and a typhoon that caused some of the Mongolian ships to sink, The Mongols went and conquered both China & Korea. They amalgamated and forced the Chinese & Korean soldiers to fight for their Mongolian army. They came back to Japan 6 years later with a bigger army. The sequel game will be about that 2nd Mongolian invasion of Japan.

The thing about the ghost and his army leaving for the Mongol steppes is supposed to show how out of hand the rumors and legend has become. Not a word of it is true but there is people who believe it is and will go to great lengths to support that cause. Jin can't do anything about it but it is all on his name.

This is the most emotional, gut wrenching , epic, cinematic and most beautiful ending of a game ive ever played. The ritualistic movements with the epic powerful music as Jin and Shimura approached each other at the beginning of the duel always brings me to an emotional wreck. Ive played this epic game so many times, put in 300+ hours and still counting. Ghost of Tsushima has a very special place in my heart and my gaming life which i will never forget until the day i die. For my part, the only ending possible is the KILL ending. To deny Shimura's honorable death would be to dishonor him beyond belief. Regardless of his actions, Shimura would not deserve that.
And when Shimura said, 'Thank you, my son,' I cried for about a minute solid. Worth it.

Yeah but for me it would go over the whole message of the game. You have literally spent the whole game developing and stepping out of the clutches of ‘honour’ and the shogunates code. Only to stop then to kill your only remaining family? By sparing him, you show that you are not a slave to honour and also by sparing him him you now walk the way of the ghost (as symbolised by him walking off with the mask on and the end). Either way i think both endings are fantastic, but this is just my personal opinion.

@@BadassRaiden It is a terrible story full of dumb decisions by a creative director who clearly despised the protagonist of the first game and allowed his activist proclivities to pollute his creative vision, which explains the poorly justified character breaking dumb actions and plot conveniences. Plenty has been said about this already so I won’t bother to write an essay, but yes. TLOU 2’s story is dumbass at best and completely misses the point of the characters it violates and the underlying message of the first game.

As someone who enjoys watching playthroughs of this game, it's the people playing the game that make the variety. So camps are interesting because there are different approaches. And mistakes make it even more fun.😜 Iki will grant some of your wishes. I always thought that after Jin fought the Kahn and she picks up the mask from the shore, that's when she friend zoned him. Cause he started to get a little intimate and then she cuts him off by giving him the mask. There is a second invasion of the mongols to the mainland. Jin could be more shinobi and have to deal with the Shogun sending hitmen after him.

You hit R2 too quick right at Ryuzo hat while Jin talked about Yuna’s gift - a minor glitch as I’ve done it myself where the audio from what you selected prior overrode your next selection as he wasn’t finished talking about the prior item.
If I remember right the quote was, “You should be here Ryuzo.” as he says it with a heaviness to his voice, but I feel like I’m jacking up that quote as I don’t remember it too clearly.

I knew you would choose not to kill Shimura as you two tend to go the "merciful" route, but by not killing him when he plainly asked you to give him the honor of a warriors death you were basically dishonoring and insulting him greatly, according the Samurai code, which was everything to Shimura. Killing him would have been the true mercy. I don't mean this as attack on you as I have enjoyed many of your game playthroughs and understand it was your choice to make, but this time I was little disappointed.

@richardmaurer9174 why does Jin have to be responsible for everything? Throughout the game, Jin kept seeking his uncle's validation - you'd catch Jin doubting his actions, his thoughts, etc. And at their very last moment together, he still seeks the same validation? Where's the arc of the character? Sparing him meant Jin did something for himself for once, taking accountability for his choices, and accepting who he has become.

I agree, I also disliked every duel just being against another swordsman, but I have to say i did EVERYTHING I could stealth so seeing a but more of an aggressive playthrough was actually nice because there's more variation in a fight than in the 3ish assassination animations.
the photo mode in this game is out of this WORLD. it has filters and particle effects as well as a free camera (when not in a cutscene). i broke my own immersion in the cutscenes several times. the game would pan to a great shot and i'd whip out photo mode.
