UV resin had a tendency to “shrink” when curing! That’s why you got those weird edges! Also, if you ever decide to use resin again for anything, use a torch/lighter instead of a heat gun for popping bubbles! It’s way more effective and it doesn’t move around the resin like a heat gun does! :) it looks amazing!

Even more fun make it a detailed scene in the centre of a patterned stained glass window like object so all the 'test' parts can end up supporting acts for centre piece! Either leaning into their differing thickness for effect - perhaps make it an arched chest lid or something similar or just bulking up the thin ones without doing the layers of paint - which with a deep pour epoxy of the same refractive index will be pretty easy. (perhaps with some extra layers added to the lowest layer counts should they be uninspiring, and if you surround the thicker star of the show with other layers it helps constrain that extreme viewing angle where the 3d effect starts to look excessively wonky).

The reason why the sides look like that and why it pops out so easily is that when curing, UV coatings shrink due to the internal stress caused by the radical polymerization of the acrylate groups present in the resin. Love the end result!

Martina in every new project: "Damn it was so hard to make those X resin layers/ foam bricks/ tower floors 😓.... Now lets do it but 10 times bigger and better! 🤩"
And one thing I really like here is because each layer gets a tiny bit blurry (lets say 99% clear), by the 100th layer it has this shallow depth of field for the background layers, as if the wing in the back is a bit out of focus, adding to the 3D effect! 😍

It's beautiful as a free-standing brick, but I think you should build a castle window around that brick, and another 3-10 layer background image (larger than this so you can see around the corners) to be a landscape in the distance behind the phoenix. The thickness of the resin in the 'window' will put it into soft 'bokeh' focus, too. You could also integrate a hidden light source for a sun...

Cool project. I like it that you guys continually try new things and even when things don't go 100% to plan, you still share the result with us. Thanks for sharing.

You should create book covers to glue onto these 3D resin paints! Turn these paintings into books with a full 3D story inside!

The way it looked on the sides made me think of a book. I thought it was a really cool effect and it's honestly amazing like always!

In your slicing program, you could set the background to white and the model to a dark color and use a projector to overlay the image. In Cura, at least, you can also isolate that single layer by dragging from the bottom of the slider when selecting the layer. So the previous layers won't show up.

That spot you mention is tricky indeed. It looks weird when you look at it from another angle but it fits at the same time with all the fire going in the background. It looks out of place but fits at the same time.
