I don't know the back story about how this series came out, but the video quality is outstanding. If only CZcams would support Dolby 5.1, but the sound quality is as good as it gets. This band has been together forever, and they are tight.
I saw this cat at the Radisson inn in Sacramento, CA in the 90s and he did the strangest thing on stage. He took some water in his mouth spit it up in the air and let it drop down on his face.
Hershel will never appear on anyone's list of "100 Greatest Guitar Players" and people are missing the boat. Talented as hell and adds so much to Chris' sound.
@@paolo-n2000 Thank goodness... “It’s a shame he (Wilsey) died,” said producer Erik Jacobsen. “A shame he left Silvertone, a shame he couldn’t get along with Chris and a shame he went on drugs.” Wilsey's album "El Dorado" is a damn good one with solid playing by Wilsey alone, a non-surf surf album. Unfortunately, this is a recording one does for one's self, not for mass consumption. Those who dig both Chris Isaak and surf guitar should go find this recording.
@@mitchgawlik1175 - Bottom line, Herschel's "sound" is him attempting to sound like Jimmy Wilsey. All the classic Chris Isaak song riffs are Jimmy Wilsey riffs. Nothing against Herschel, he just never had the talent and creativity that Wilsey did. I saw a bunch of Isaak concerts in the late 80s and they were magical live. The classic Isaak & Silvertone records are the ones with Wilsey on guitar. It is quite a legacy. Isaak penned a very personal and moving tribute to Wilsey when he passed away...says it all.
@@paolo-n2000 I'm not a Isaak completist so I'm not familiar with all of Wilsey's work. Part of my bitch with Wilsey is the drug addiction. I have little use for someone who has such little regard for his health and well being that he lets drugs take over his life and help the ruination of his family. I respect his talent and enjoy that one solo record, the only one I'm aware of. I think Isaak is a stand up guy and despite the riff between those two I feel he said what he needed to say. Once again, Erik Jacobsen... “I was very close with Jimmy and it got to the point he really couldn’t stand Chris’ guts,” Jacobsen said. “That’s what it boiled down to. It was somewhere around the time when he got into heavy drugs. And then [in 1993] we had some rehearsals where Jimmy couldn’t concentrate. He couldn’t even remember the chords. I don’t know if he was fired or he quit, but it was very plain that everything between those two as partners was over. And that was that.”
Does anyone know why I cannot find the original video to this song? It's driving me batcrazy. It was one of my fave discoveries as a 14 yr old and it had a ton of airplay on a local rock video channel back around '85.

So true Mitch!
He's no James Calvin Wilsey though....

Rock-a-billy heaven. Lacks only a Gretsch 6120. Fabulous work
Only time I ever heard this song was in the film "American Flyers". Wish it got more play...great tune.

“Hey, wanna go for a ride?”
does chris tour detroit area
Like the tone on the stratocaster. Very heavy . I'm wondering if he's using Texas special? And what amp?
It's not a Strat - looks one but it is custom made, not sure who did it but it is called a Yatocaster, after Hershel Yatovitz.
@@MychalGendron I built that guitar.
@@rickyhuff Wow - great work! Did I have that right about the guitar?
That sound it gives is so dirty, sound like Texas coils and fender reverb and a light overdrive . Sounds great
That's a motorcycle song if I ever heard one

Great song!!!! However - much, much, much better with legendary Jimmy Wilsey on guitar....
Hmmm - just spotted the 2nd drums/percussion guy around 1.50... no wonder it sounds fat.
