    Wow! Xiong laoshi. Love your story telling. Since my Chinese is very limited, I really appreciate your English subtitles. My travel experiences in China went well. I had a great time in Shanghai, Beijing, Yunnan, and Guizhou. I really didn't encounter any major or dangerous issues. However, I got a citation for jay walking in Guizhou. As my tour guide and I were checking out the shopping center in Kaili, I saw something across the street that I liked. I quickly ran across the street to take a look at it. A lot of people were also crossing the street illegally. The police happened to stop me and said many things to me which I didn't understand. I told him, "Wo bu shi zhong guo ren. Wo shi mei guo zen." He didn't care and wouldn't let me go. My tour guide came over to intervene. He told me that the police officer saw me jay walking and would give me a ticket. I asked him, " How much is the ticket?" He said, "5 yuan." I gave the officer 5 yuan and then he let me go. It was the cheapest ticket I ever got. It was less than $1 US.
    When I landed in Kunming, Yunnan, I rented a car because I wanted to have the freedom to go anywhere I wanted. As my Chinese friend and I were driving to Wenshan, I also got a 200 yuan (about $25 US) speeding ticket.

    As a male proficient in a variety of combat skills, I have never once hitchhiked in any of the 33 countries ( including my own) that I have visited or lived in. I can’t understand why women would do it. What’s worse is that I know a woman who hitchhiked with a friend and it was a virtual horror story for them, and yet she told me she would do it again. She was lucky ( or someone was looking out for her) once, why tempt fate. It’s illegal in the USA for a darn good reason. Thank you for sharing your story. I hope someone thinks twice after hearing it. Please read the story of Mary Vincent!

    Ni hao Shuo laoshi. I am re-learning my Mandarin and found your funny and interesting channel. Thank you for your hard work. I think it is very different travelling as a female compare to a male. I don't have any similar experiences. I do think that you are being too generous on that man. It is a type of assault when he was grabbing, touching and kissing you. I don't think most guys would do that let alone a married man with children. Imagine if one of his daughters had this happened to her would he think it was "ok and just a normal guy thing". I highly doubt it. Question: do you do private lessons? Jia You!

  • @DanielLeoSimpson
    @DanielLeoSimpson Před 3 lety +1

    Happy that worked out well for you - a couple things stood out - 1) when you were at the light and he started getting weird, that was the time to open the door and get out of the car (stopped at a light) - in some cases, that might have been your last chance to keep you alive. 2) Also, yelling only provokes so that's not something you want to do - 3) also, you don't "ask" to be let out of the car - you wait till it stops (you said at a light) and open the door quietly and leave (yes, even in the middle of lanes assuming cars are waiting at the light as well, just signal with hands to them and jay-walk to the sidewalk. In some cases had a person done that, they would still be alive today. 4) Next, You took the "warning" and decided to be more careful or not do this again. Grandma always told me, "God always gives warnings." It's when we ignore them that we find we're not so lucky the 2nd and 3rd time. So glad you made it back safely to share your experiences. :)

    I find that Chinese people can be very understanding and forgiving, which helps them move on with their lives and focus on good things. In western culture, or many other societies, he would be considered a bad man, because not only does he "buy women" but also he thinks that he can buy any woman, or assumes that any woman waiting for a ride to the train station is a sex worker or potentially one because she is in need of money and would have sex for money.

    You are highly unusual Chinese woman. I mean... honestly, the Chinese in China that I have met are not at all physically brave, won't do anything that's not about study, career money, family or marriage, are overly comfort loving, won't take any risks etc etc. And that's the men!
    Anyway, I used to hitchhike a lot. It's something that is seldom done in the 21st century. Most people these days can afford the plane train bus, and generally won't take the risk and discomfort. I salute you because for some reason you have emerged out of China with a real spirit of adventure and because you are willing to put yourself in uncomfortable situations in order to gain knowledge and experience. I honestly don't know how this happened. It seems so rare in modern China. Really extraordinary, independent thinker.

      I believe she said : Not a bad man (but that doesn't imply he was good. But just that he is a person who can under some circunstances behave in a bad manner. He could have tried to force her, but in the moment she stood her ground he let her go. It doesn't forgive his actions, of course).

    This is quite a serious sexual assault. He is definitely a scavenger, definitely a bad guy. He probably looked for a runaway girl or a street prostitute on the way home and thought that you were one of them.
