The piano intro was the first 14 measures of "Moments Musicaux Opus 16 No. 4" by the Romantic era composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, and it was performed by the lead guitarist (Miyako) on stage left who is also a classically-trained pianist since the age of 3. She also composed and arranged "Empty Daydream".
As a band, Lovebites formed back in 2016 and their current discography includes 4 LPs and 3 EPs, altogether with about 60 songs, the latest LP being the phenomenal "Judgement Day". They play quite diverse metal genres/sub-genres that are primarily power/thrash/prog/power ballad/neoclassical metal. In fact, you will hear a lot of the different sub-genres masterfully blended into one song. "Empty Daydream" is definitely one of their slower tracks and would probably fit into the power ballad category. If you like something heavier and thrashier, I recommend "Break the Wall" LIVE : czcams.com/video/5Pc0XK0lNmU/video.html , "Set the World on Fire" LIVE : czcams.com/video/99zsH6iG_6c/video.html and "Thunder Vengeance" LIVE : czcams.com/video/yWE7PqCpGi4/video.html

Beat me to the classical reference as usual. And Break the Wall would suit me, as it's one of my special favourites (although all 60 odd of their tracks are favourites).

Lovebites is from Japan, they formed in 2016 and released their first album in 2017. In August 2021, Miho, their founding member and bass player, decided to leave the band for personal reasons despite efforts to keep her in the band. So Lovebites was on hiatus for about a year. They hired Fami to be their new bass player in October 2022, very recently. Fami is a 20 year old phenom, whole the other members are age 30-33ish. They are one of the rare Japanese metal bands who sing in all English.

One of my favorites, so catchy! These ladies are F phenomenal. I grew up listening to 80s thrash / Power metal and the Torch has been passed. LOVEBITES, Goddesses in white, slaying heavy metal since 2016. And that beginning was improvised, and yes, it's a classical bit. Someone will comment on it. These ladies are talented beyond belief! Keep going, you'll see! Great suggestion! 🤘

Wow, your first intro to Lovebites? Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet).
Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing.
In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. Their first song with Fami is “Judgement Day” czcams.com/video/m3uGjp-P7DI/video.html
The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining.
They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band."
Here are more clips you should check out:
“Set the World on Fire” czcams.com/video/99zsH6iG_6c/video.html from their 2021 concert DVD “Heavy Metal Never Dies”.
    “Don’t Bite the Dust” czcams.com/video/oHnKGEj1CMc/video.html, from the same concert;
"Edge of the World" and "We the United", back to back: czcams.com/video/sl0-U-ykJCU/video.html They form an incredible journey from darkness and despair to light and hope.
    Perhaps their greatest masterpiece, a showcase of multi-instrumental virtuosity and even classical dance “A Frozen Serenade” czcams.com/video/Ae8pQVu-RN8/video.html;
And their most reacted-to video, “Holy War”: czcams.com/video/bgAxpEpEcno/video.html
Miyako is also a virtuoso concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. If you want to see what she can do on the piano, watch “Swan Song” WITH the prelude, which is Chopin’s “Revolutionary Etude” (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). Miyako wrote “Swan Song” using elements from several classical pieces including the Etude. This link should work: czcams.com/video/WBhtqgiXEA4/video.html.
For a thrasher with heavy Slayer and Metallica vibes, “Break the Wall” czcams.com/video/5Pc0XK0lNmU/video.html includes two gorgeous and completely contrasting solos by M&M.
For a heart-stopping ballad, “Epilogue” czcams.com/video/1ynnXDfEnnY/video.html (this includes a second song, your choice whether or not to react to both)
While you will sometimes hear you should only react to live clips, actually their MV’s are epic and worth seeing. Here are four of the most spectacular:
    "Shadowmaker" czcams.com/video/Brmoln5Gxus/video.html
This is the song that blew up and melted faces all over the world
    "When Destinies Align" czcams.com/video/hLFelI93VkM/video.html
    "Glory to the World" czcams.com/video/-wJtD2XEXH4/video.html
    "Winds of Transylvania" czcams.com/video/HsE4Ub_Pjh8/video.html.
Finally, the audio tracks of some of the new album are up on youtube, and worth checking out. The band clearly came out swinging and wanted to make a statement. Every song on the album is a showcase of their incredible talent and songwriting capabilities. “Stand and Deliver” is a thrasher with a fun video of them in the studio. “Soldier Stands Solitarily”, the final song on the album, is being touted by some as the best thing they’ve done so far-I encourage you to see and decide for yourself!
You'll get lots of suggestions, just one thing: don't bother with Bloodstock footage, the sound quality is poor. Best to take suggestions with actual links. Also, you can’t go wrong with any of their official clips. Welcome to the Wolf-Pack!

    LOVEBITES - Empty Daydream lyrics:
Memories I can’t erase still haunting me
Silently you stare with cold, empty eyes
    Falling down
    Breaking heart
    A growing addiction
    Just let me go away
Just let me go my way
Just let me go, I won’t become a doll you control
    I’m losing sight of me
    I’m losing sight of you
I’m losing sanity and I don’t know how I will go on
Nothing new, pretending not to know the truth
    Rendezvous, without emotion or heart
I won’t show how weak and sad I am inside
Even though I know it’s just silly pride
    Empty room
    Endless rain
    The end of a daydream
    You never call my name
    You never feel the same
You never make me feel like I deserve any love
    I’m waiting for the dawn
    I’m waiting for the time
I’m waiting for my bleeding heart to heal,
    so I can go on
SOLO: miyako / midori / miyako / both
Memories I can’t erase still haunting me
Silently you stare with cold, empty eyes
    Falling down
    Breaking heart
    A growing addiction
    Empty room
    Endless rain
    The end of a daydream
    Just let me go away
Just let me go my way
Just let me go, I won’t become a doll you control
    I’m losing sight of me
    I’m losing sight of you
    I’m losing sanity and I don’t know how I will…
    You never call my name
    You never feel the same
You never make me feel like I deserve any love
    I’m waiting for the dawn
    I’m waiting for the time
I’m waiting for my bleeding heart to heal,

Thanks for the reaction! LOVEBITES are the GODDESSES of heavy metal ! In 2018 , LOVEBITES won the prestigious Metal Hammer GOLDEN GODS Award for "Best New Band" (London,UK). The winners of the GOLDEN GODS Award in different years and in various categories were such famous bands and musicians, such as: BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, MOTöRHEAD, JUDAS PRIEST, TWISTED SISTER, OZZY OSBOURNE, LEMMY KILMISTER, ZAKK WYLDE, NIKKI SIXX, JOE PERRY, ANTHRAX, SLAYER, TESTAMENT, SAXON, NIGHTWISH, TRIVIUM, RAMMSTEIN, SABATON, CHILDREN OF BODOM, ARCH ENEMY, MACHINE HEAD (and this is not a complete list).
LOVEBITES is a Japanese all-female heavy metal band, formed in 2016 by former Japanese heavy metal band DESTROSE members Miho( bass, backing vocals) and Haruna(drums). The band has successfully performed at various major international rock-festivals many times .In the spring of 2018, LOVEBITES performed on the Japanese leg of the Warped Tour. In August 2018, they performed at Wacken Open Air (Germany), becoming the first Japanese all-female rock band to perform at the festival. Also in August 2018 they performed on the main stage of Bloodstock Open Air (UK). In 2019, LOVEBITES performed at the Download Festival in Donington (UK) and Download Festival in Madrid (Spain). Their performance in Donington was named by the festival organizers and Metal Hammer magazine as one of the highlights of the festival! In the same year they performed at the Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium) and the Summer Sonic Festival (Japan). Unfortunately, the Covid pandemic that began in 2020 prevents LOVEBITES from performing at festivals and forced a drastic reduction of concerts.
LOVEBITES is a phenomenal band, all the ladies are talented musicians! They have recorded about 60 original songs and all the songs are very good !
🐺Miho - bass, backing vocals (in August 2021 she left the band).
    🐺Haruna - drums.
    🐺Midori - guitars, backing vocals.
🐺Miyako (Mi-Ya)- guitars, piano, keyboards, backing vocals.
    🐺Asami - lead vocals, piano.
    🐺Fami - bass, backing vocals(since October 2022).
🐺Miho has been playing the piano since the age of 5. She started playing the bass guitar at school. Great bass player! The fact that such a wonderful band appeared is, first of all, the merit of Miho. She came up with the idea of starting a band and what kind of music the band would play. It's a mix of power metal and "old school" heavy metal (New Wave of British Heavy Metal). Miho brought these talented ladies together in LOVEBITES.
🐺Haruna has played drums since she was thirteen years old, she also plays keyboards. Haruna is the smallest (4 '9 ") , but appearances are deceiving. When Haruna sits down at the drums, this is the "little BIG Engine." She is one of the best drummers in Japan.
🐺Midori (blond hair) has been playing the piano since she was two years old and the electric organ since she was eight. She started studying guitar at the age of 20. Super guitarist, "Crazy Shredder". She surpasses many male guitarists in speed and technique of playing the guitar.
Graduated from ESP / MI JAPAN ( Osaka ) , GIT-DX department (superfast guitar department). ESP / MI JAPAN is an International Music Institute , headquartered in Hollywood, California, USA.
🐺Miyako (black hair) has been playing the piano since the age of three, received a classical education (piano) and wanted to pursue a career as a pianist. She has been playing the guitar since the age of 18. Super guitarist! They call her "The Golden Touch" and she is a real musical genius. Miyako is the main composer of the band, she wrote 50% of the music.
    * In terms of teamwork , synchronization / harmonization of guitars , Midori and Miyako today are perhaps the best pair of guitarists in the world playing metal. One music critic said that two guitarists of this level (Midori and Miyako) in the same band is a crime!😊
🐺Asami started with R&B and soul music . She studied classical ballet for about 16 years (this is noticeable in her movements on stage, especially the movements of her hands). Started ballet lessons at the age of two. After leaving school, Asami lived for some time in the US, where she came to study jazz and hip hop dance. Plays the piano. Asami wrote most of the lyrics of the band's songs.
🐺Fami is 20 years old, plays bass, keyboards, guitar, writes songs, sings. She has already released her solo album, which she dedicated to graduating from school. Despite his youth, Fami has experience of collaboration with famous musicians..
All songs LOVEBITES are written in English. Unlike other metal bands, LOVEBITES are always on stage in white dresses . White dresses are their style. The Wolf is the mascot of LOVEBITES and is featured on all band's albums except the first EP "The Lovebites". The band's fans call themselves the 🐺Wolfpack🐺

You might have recognised the piano opening if you're a fan of classical music. It's a piece by the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943).... Moment Musicaux Opus 16 No 4. (There are 6 of these "moments" in the piece... this was the fourth one). In common with many Japanese musicians the ladies of Lovebites are classically trained from a young age and Lovebites frequently incorporates classical pieces into their songs. In particular the lady on piano and guitar, Miyako, is a musical prodigy who started playing the piano at the age of three and is the major songwriter for the band. This band is something very special and I envy you that you have just discovered them for you have an exciting musical journey in front of you.

The main riff in this song is very Iron Maiden like. But, this is a very light song for Lovebites. Most of their music is very hard, thrash and power metal. If you want an example of this listen to Break the Wall or Hammer of Wrath. Other very good hard rock type songs are Raise Some Hell or their newest Stand and Deliver.

Oh Lovebites will bang their heads on their heavier songs, of which they have a lot of. It feels odd to start on one of their slowest and softer songs because 90% of their catalog is heavier than this. Miyako is a virtuoso on both the piano and guitar, you'll see what I mean once you see more of their songs. Lovebites won the 2018 Metal Hammer Golden Gods award for best new band.

M&M Miyako and Midori are the best duo I have seen in 30 years and you need to see some of their faster songs and thrashier songs to see they do shredding and power metal speed metal ballads and hard rock with synthesizer "Spellbound" to hear them sound like Slayer try Break the Wall.

I got into Lovebites a little over a year ago and now they are my favorite band, overtaking Iron Maiden as my favorite band. They formed in 2016. They are considered a power metal band, but have a range of songs in slightly different genres from metal to thrash metal.. I'm still discovering their discography and only know half of their total songs. I don't know if you caught the guitar riff at 3:57 - 4:04 and 7:30 - 7:52 of your video, but I heard Micheal Jackson's song Beat It.
Many songs of theirs to check out - Holy War 2021 LIVE in Tokyo with lyrics, Break The Wall - Live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020, Set The World On Fire [Live from "Ride For Vengeance Tour 2021"], The Awakening The Hammer Of Wrath Live, Above the Black Sea - Live at MyNavi BLITZ Akasaka on January 27, 2019. Thunder Vengeance [Live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020], EPILOGUE - With subtitles - Daughters of the Dawn-Live in Tokyo 2019. From their new album "Judgement Day" check out - We Are the Resurrection, Judgment Day, Stand and Deliver, My Orion, Dissonance and Soldier Stands Solitarily.

I’m critical of this live release, “Daughters of the Dawn,” but this song is perfect. It’s definitely my favorite of the three recorded versions of “Empty Daydream” I’m aware of. Asami nails every note, Miyako’s calmer piano intro is gorgeous (as is she), and Midori’s bringing a restrained intensity that finally gets released when the solo section starts. Miho and Miyako providing the extra melodic vocals puts this song over the edge. Haruna is a tireless, incredible drummer who always draws my ear with her cymbal work especially.
Oh, and regarding Miho slinging the bass low, I do the same thing and we both do it for the same reason: Steve Harris. Steve’s play style is Miho’s play style is my play style.

Welcome to the Wolfpack! (the name for the Lovebites fans :D) - Glad to see you fully enjoying the best metal band on the planet. It's great to see more people discovering our ladies! I encourage you to check out some of their live performances too - in my decades of metal fandom, I've never heard cleaner sound out of a band live. Also, the white gowns are their usual "Battle Uniforms", one of their newest songs "Stand and Deliver" is one of the few MVs they have done in casual clothes.
If you really liked that - check out Swan Song (with Chopin Intro), and also Epilogue (live) - these ladies are hugely talented and deserve all the love.

The intro piano is inspired by Rachmoninoff, and some of the riffs in the main song are reminiscent of both Michael Jackson's "Beat It" and REO Speedwagon's "Back on the Road Again." Most of their material is in the power metal vein, but they also have several thrash metal songs and NWOBHM-inspired traditional heavy metal songs, and a few progressive metal, symphonic/neoclassical metal, and even a few pop metal songs. The bassist in this video left the band in 2021, and they named a new bassist, popular CZcamsr Fami, in 2022 and just released a new album "Judgement Day" in 2023, which is their fourth studio album, not counting their three EPs and four live concert DVDs (one of those was a live-stream and now very hard to find, though several clips from it are widely available, including on their CZcams channel).

I think the main riff is actually derived from MJ's "Beat It". Miyako mentioned that she included this riff as an homage to Jennifer Batten, one of MJ's favorite session guitarists. Batten is one of Miyako's guitar influences.

    • @garykeeling2275
      @garykeeling2275 Před rokem

@@boyzyu You are correct, it was Beat It, not Billie Jean. It's odd that she chose that as an homage to Jennifer Batten, though, since Jennifer didn't play on that song. Guitars were all done by Paul Jackson, Steve Lukather, and Eddie Van Halen. Interestingly, if you look over the list of who plays on the song, it is basically Michael Jackson largely backed by Toto, lol!

      @boyzyu Před rokem +1

@@garykeeling2275 Yes, you're right, for the studio tracks, Batten didn't play the lead. What she did was follow MJ on tour and I think (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) she was the primary lead guitarist in many of those concerts. Here is a video of her and MJ LIVE : czcams.com/video/1EvYlxOQ6vQ/video.html

If you want to sing and emote correctly in another language, I think the minimum is to know which words mean what so you can add correct emphasis, and also to know where the word stress is. Someone would probably write the lyrics for you or translate them, but you would have to work closely with them to get an understanding of the lyrics and iron out pronunciation issues. Still, an audible accent would probably remain.
What to tell you about Lovebites, well, they're one of my favorite bands. This song here is definitely on the soft side for them, most of their songs are way heavier and above all faster, but intricate (a comparison I heard that I like is "surgery at 300 mph"). Their style is rooted in classic metal in the Iron Maiden vein and in power metal (Dragonforce, Stratovarious, Helloween etc.), but they also add a strong thrash element. On their more recent albums, their style has become still faster and heavier and more power metal. The guitarists (Midori, blond and Miyako, black hair) are insanely good, this song didn't really show you what they can do, but of course the others are excellent as well. They have a new bassist now, Fami, a 20-year old prodigy bass virtuoso (this is their old bassist, Miho). The drummer is Haruna, and the singer is Asami.
